Timing during the week @ Monkton Key timings of the day We meet on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in Chapel for Chapel service or Principal’s assembly. On a Tuesday we have house meeting in Eddy common room (or singing practice in Chapel) and on Friday we have House Prayers also in the Eddy common room. On a Saturday registration is in the Quad at 9am before period 1 at 9.15am and on Sunday first registration for boarders is 1300. At the end of the day registration is in the Eddy common room at the timings below (day boys may leave at 4.15pm, 5.30pm or after supper or sign in at times below if staying for prep). Monday

We are your Houseparents and we live in Eddystone House with our daughters Phoebe and Beata and our sons Toal and Harris. We are here to help and you will not be bothering us if you come to us with a problem, however big or small!

Medical If you are unwell at school you will be taken to the Medical Centre where staff will ensure you are well cared for. You are not allowed to keep any medication in your room or to share it with others. If you need to keep your own medication in school the Med Centre must be aware and will safeguard it for you.
In-House In-house, generally involving plenty of food and fun, happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mr & Mrs Robinson host on a Tuesday where the whole house gets together to socialise whilst on a Thursday you stay in your year group and are hosted by either Mr & Mrs Robinson or Mr & Mrs Norton.
Mobile phones and Tech The best networks for mobile phones are O2 and Vodafone, others work but due to the age of the building and thickness of the walls, signal can be hit and miss. You will be given log on details for Monkton’s Wifi on your first day. At night your mobile phone and Chrome book will be locked away - this is based on research showing the use of technology at night strongly impacts good sleeping habits. Year 9-11 don’t bring smartphones into school during the school day (8:10am - 5:15pm). This is to allow space for building friendships without the distraction of screens. House bank There is an option to hand in cash to Mr or Mrs Robinson who can keep it in the House bank for you, however there are options to pay for most things in school without cash now so if you can bring a travel card or ‘Go Henry' card etc, this would be preferable. Weekends There are always activities on Saturday nights, day boys are always welcome but may go home after completion of Saturday school commitments. Boarders may occasionally arrange to go home for the weekend. Please arrange parental contact with Mr Robinson by Thursday evening so permission can be obtained for the Saturday night. What to bring Bring things to make your space your own such as posters or pictures from home, cushions, small plants etc. Please bring your own mug and an alarm clock, as you will not have your phone overnight. You will not be allowed to have your own toasters/ kettles etc - these will be found in the house kitchens. Expectations To ensure Eddy remains a place where everyone feels at home; safe and secure, we expect our boys to treat each other with respect, generosity and kindness. We expect Eddy Boys to act in a way that will neither upset, or cause unnecessary work for others. We also encourage an attitude of not taking yourself too seriously, being humble and open to learn from mistakes.
Fire alarms On your Induction Day we will talk you through the Fire Procedure for Eddystone house and there will be a fire drill during the first two weeks of every term. Road Safety As a road runs between some of Monkton’s facilities and boarding houses road safety is very important. We have a Road Safety Procedure which will be explained to you on your Induction Day and will be on the Eddystone notice boards all year. Don’t let any frustrations you might have grow. A problem dealt with quickly can make all the difference. Don’t assume we know everything. If there's something we should be aware of, PLEASE let us know. The pupil’s welfare is our most important concern and it’s important that you encourage your son to speak to us whenever they have an issue they need help with - we are on their team!
Beyond the pointers above, we ask you to trust that we will do our very best by your son. It means a lot to us that you have entrusted them to us and our pastoral care will be most effective when we show mutual trust and reinforce the collaboration between parent, pupil and staff.

The first few weeks of term There are some one offs in the initial weeks of Michaelmas term. Mr Norton will email a spreadsheet indicating these peculiarities at the start of term to day parents to aid with pickups.
Frequently asked questions Who will I share a room with? You will be allocated a room with other boys in your year group. Who looks after me? Houseparents Mr & Mrs Robinson will be either in Eddystone or Science Department during the day and then in Eddystone in the evenings. Assistant Houseparents Mr & Mrs Norton will be in Shutecroft and the point of contact during the night for boys living in Della Pace and a first point of contact for house matters for year 9 and 10 day boys. Personal and House Tutors - You will be allocated a tutor who you see during the week and each evening one of the listed tutors is on duty. Mentors in house - You will have two specific mentors, one in year 13 and if joining year 9, one in year 10 also. Kelly & Lyn - Will be about throughout the day ensuring you live in a clean and safe environment. Peers- Eddystone boys are known for being kind, fun and caring, you will be amazed by the support they offer Chaplain / School Listener - Rev Hutch and Ms McInnes are available throughout the week. What is the food like, where do I eat? The dining hall is 2 minutes walk down in the inner quad. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served there. The food is good and there is always a selection available. What do I wear? During the working day you will be expected to be in full school uniform or when appropriate, school games kit. After prep and Saturday school you can wear your own clothes. When do I get up? Most boys get up around 7am for a shower. Breakfast is from 7:30am. First sign in 8:20am. Can I choose activities? Yes. These take place at 4:15pm but often get going slightly later into term due to one off events and house music practise at the start. What happens at the weekend? On Saturday, there are 3 lessons in the morning (4 for 6th form) followed by chapel and lunch. Sports fixtures are in the afternoon and there are fun whole-school events in the evening. Sunday tends to be a quieter day; some boys sign up for a lift to church. There is a minibus into town in the afternoon and other events on site that it is possible to get involved in. On some Sundays there are off site trips such as paint balling. Day boys are welcome to stay for Saturday night activities or free to leave after sports fixtures.
When do I do my prep (homework)? 6:30pm - 8:30pm although in year 9 it can end at 8pm. Do I need to bring a laptop? In year 9-11 you are issued with a chromebook to use so you don’t need to bring one but in sixth form you may wish to bring your own. Can a boarder lock away his valuables? Yes, bring a small padlock (combination locks are best) Who washes my clothes? There is a school laundry service. You put dirty clothes each week into a central laundry basket which is collected and returned twice a week. There is also a house washing machine and dryer if needed. Who puts new clean sheets on my bed? You. There will be a reminder once a fortnight and sheets are provided. Is it possible to visit other boarding houses and leave site? Yes. There are certain times when this is possible and signing out and in is essential. Mr Robinson will explain the process at the start of term. As a day boy, when do I have to leave? You can arrive for breakfast and leave at bed time if you wish! Just remember to communicate clearly with your parents and the house staff so they know where you are. See page 2 for sign in timings. As a day boy, where do I do my prep (homework)? You will have a room in the house that you share with other day boys and boarders. This is where you will complete your prep. If prep is very busy and more space is required then extra spaces are available. How do I find out about upcoming events and notices? Notices are given every week in house meetings. You should also check and action your emails daily to ensure you don’t miss communications, and refer to to school online calendar. Who do I speak to if I have a question or problem? Mr and Mrs Robinson are always there for you, if you cannot find Mr Robinson in person then you can call or text on 07701311380. Where do I get changed for games? The Eddy changing room for year 9&10 is in the Quad. Kit can be left here, please bring a padlock if you wish to use a locker. Boarders can drop dirty kit down in school after changing and it will be washed and returned to house. Year 11-13 change in the house.
