STANDARDS AND SYMBOLS

Choosing the right protective clothing starts with understanding standards and certifications. In the overview on this page we list the most common standards and requirements for protection against flame and heat, electric arc, chemicals, weather conditions, and more. All Tranemo protective clothing follows the Regulation (EU)2016/425 and the latest European (EN) standards. For more information, certificates and Declaration of Conformity please visit our website.

The catalogue specifies the standards for which the products are certified. When the standard is marked with * or 1 , we refer to the complete information for each product on our website.

TRANEMO SKINSAFE ™

THE MULTI-LAYER PROTECTION SYSTEM

Tranemo Skinsafe™ is a multi-layer system designed to protect against flame, heat and electric arc hazards.

All Tranemo Skinsafe™ systems are tested, at a testing institute, according to EN 614822, APC, ELIM and EBT/ATPV. The tests are performed both on fabrics and garments. The symbol is shown on garments that can be combined as a Skinsafe system.

STANDARD 100 BY OEKO-TEX ® PRODUCTS TESTED FOR HARMFUL SUBSTANCES

Oeko-Tex® is an independent third-party certification process that ensures control of harmful and hazardous chemicals.

Nearly all fabric and accessories that Tranemo use are tested and certified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100, product class 2. Tranemo have two current certificates.

CE MARKING FOR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

The CE marking indicates that a Notified Body has EU type examined the garment according to the PPE Regulation (EU)2016/425.

All Tranemo protective clothing is CE marked. Inside each garment there is a CE label showing the standards and classes for which the garment is approved.

EN

ISO 11612

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST HEAT AND FLAME

The standard specifies protective clothing when working where there is a risk that the garments will come into contact with heat and flame. It is the base level of protection for all Tranemo flame retardant clothing. The garments are marked based on the performance categories: A - ignition, B - convective heat, C - radiant heat, D - molten aluminium, E - molten iron, F - contact heat.

EN 61482-2

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST THE THERMAL HAZARD OF AN ELECTRIC ARC

The standard specifies protective clothing used where there is a risk of an electric arc. Tranemo garments are marked with APC, ELIM and ATPV/EBT. ELIM (Incident Energy Limit, cal/cm²) is the European official arc rating for electric arc showing how much energy the protective clothing can withstand without any risk of a second degree burn.

EN 1149-5

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WITH ELECTROSTATIC PROPERTIES

The standard specifies protective clothing used in explosive environments (i.e. ATEX) where there is a risk that the garments could create sparks, which in turn could ignite explosive substances.

Anti-static garments marked EN 1149-5 are intended to be worn in Atex zones 1, 2 (gas, mist and vapour) and 20, 21 and 22 (dust).

EN ISO 11611

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR USE IN WELDING AND ALLIED PROCESSES

The standard specifies protective clothing used in welding work or allied processes where you have the risk of spatter, radiant heat from the arc, short contact with flame and live electrical conductors. The standard is divided into class 1 (lower risk) and class 2 (higher risk), depending on welding processes and environmental conditions.

EN 13034 TYPE PB [6]

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST LIQUID CHEMICALS

This standard specifies protective clothing used where there is a risk of a potential exposure to a light spray, liquid aerosols or low pressure/volume splashes when a complete liquid permeation barrier is not required.

In accordance to the standard the following chemical groups can be tested: acid, alcaline, aromatic hydrocarbon and alcohol.

EN ISO 14116

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AGAINST FLAME, LIMITED FLAME SPREAD

The standard is used for protective clothing that offers limited protection against brief or accidental contact with small flames, such as vests, t-shirts and socks. The standard has no dedicated symbol but Tranemo uses a flame symbol. The standard is divided into three classes, where index 3 is the highest protection.

EN ISO 20471

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WITH HIGH VISIBILITY

This standard specifies protective clothing used in high risk environments where the wearer needs to be visible at both day and night.

The standard is divided into three classes where class 3 has the highest visibility. Class 1 and 2 clothing can be combined with other Tranemo high visibility garments as a set to reach a combined class 3 system.

EN 17353

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WITH ENHANCED VISIBILITY

The standard defines requirements for protective clothing designed to enhance the visibility of individuals in medium-risk environments. The standard includes three types depending on predictable conditions of use.

RIS-3279-TOM

RAILWAY GROUP HIGH-VISIBILITY STANDARD FOR UK

The standard is a supplement to the high visibility standard EN ISO 20471 and applies to work on or near British railways. To certify protective garments according to RIS-3279-TOM, the garment must achieve at least EN ISO 20471 class 2 and be fluorescent orange, but with stricter colour requirements.

EN 342

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST COLD

The standard specifies protective clothing used when working in cold environments. Properties that are tested are: thermal insulation, air permeability, water vapour resistance and water penetration resistance. The tested garment is assessed as a 3-layer system together with underwear.

EN 343

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST RAIN

This standard specifies protective clothing used for working in rain or snow, fog and ground humidity. Garment and seams are tested for water penetration resistance and water vapour resistance where class 4 is the highest protection level.

EN 13758-2

PROTECTIVE CLOTHING TO PROTECT AGAINST UV RADIATION

This standard specifies protective clothing that protects against UV radiation. All textiles offer some protection against UV radiation. EN 13758-2 indicates that the UPF rating (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is 40 or more. and that the garment protects against both UVA and UVB radiation.

EN ISO 15797

P ROCEDURES FOR INDUSTRY LAUNDRY AND FINISHING OF WORKWEAR

EN ISO 15797 is a wash test method for fabrics used in protective clothing that will be industrially washed. Specific requirements are determined in each EN standard.

The PRO symbol states the number of washes performed in laboratory environment before the flame protection, high visibility and anti-static properties are tested.

SIZE GUIDE

Our size guide will help you find the right size for your Tranemo garment. . Since men and ladies have different body shapes, it is important to use the appropriate measurement guide when choosing your size. Measure yourself over your underwear, the garments are designed with built-in room for movement.

LADIES

The Swedish ladies size 34-48 were previously UK size 8-22. Based on customer feedback that UK sizes were running small, the size range was adjusted in 2024 to sizes 6–20. For repeat orders or if you wish to match a previously ordered size exactly, please refer to the Swedish sizing 34–48. Please note that during the transition period, paper labels will display the updated sizes, while some sewn-in labels may still show the old sizing.

Use your hip measurement as the main guide when selecting your size.

HEATSEAL BADGES

When ordering a heatseal badge, the cost is made up of two charges. The first charge is for making the heatseal badge and the second charge for applying the heatseal badge to the garment. The heatseal badges are charged on the first order and the price varies depending on the size of the badge, how many colours are being used, and the quantity being ordered. Minimum order quantity for 1-3 colours is 25 pcs and then in multiples of 25. Minimum order quantity for more than 3 colours is 100 pieces. Tranemo has 13 standard colours to choose from.

InduTrans - This is an all-round heatseal badge that works on most materials. Covers dark garments to 99% and can be washed in 60 degrees and tumble dried in low temperatures (garment washed and dried inside out). InduTrans is tested and complies to the requirements for EN ISO 14116 and 1149-5 when applied to most Tranemo Flame Retardant fabrics.

Artwork - originating cost - To ensure the best quality, please supply us with a digital eps file, with text outlines. If the original is not in an acceptable file format, there will be a cost for re-designing.

Applying instructions - InduTrans heatseal badges should be applied by a heatseal machine for 10-15 seconds at 160°C. The surface of the material should be flat and without seams. For Flame Retardant garments, the best placement is where there are several layers of fabric underneath - this will help protect the wearer against extra heat that a heatseal badge may retain during use. Water resistant garments can be preheated to get a better finish.

Location of heatseal badges, max 100 cm².

Depending on the shape of the heatseal badge and the design of a garment, it may be that it is not possible or suitable to apply the heatseal badge to some areas of the garment.
