Heidi Armstrong Heidi Armstrong has devoted the past seven years of her life to Divine Canines, a therapy dog group founded in 2004. She was in the second training class, taught by the late Lee Mannix, renowned dog trainer, and graduated with her dog Bella in 2006. Heidi had a deep love for animals from an early age. She adopted her dog Bella as a puppy from the Town Lake Animal Shelter with the intention of training her as a therapy dog. Heidi joined the board of Divine Canines in 2007, and was appointed

She has guided the organization through a period of great transition, including an expansion of the board, creation of infrastructure to make the organization sustainable, and the addition of over 40 new dog and handler teams. Although Heidi supports several other charities including The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Colin’s Hope, her greatest joy continues to come from her work as both president and a volunteer with Divine Canines.

Cindy Fellows Cindy Fellows and her husband, Martin of 33 years, became close with the elderly couple living next door shortly after moving to Austin.

Through this relationship, Cindy discovered her passion for caring for seniors and joined the Assistance League of Austin, an all-volunteer philanthropic organization. She quickly became co-chairman of Bus With Us, a program that regularly took

Under Cindy’s direction, Bus With Us has more than doubled in size over the past four years—this year taking approximately 1200 seniors on boat and bus trips around Austin and Central Texas.

Last year, Cindy accepted the A.G.E. Outstanding Community Service Award, for Bus With Us, on behalf of Assistance League, for stellar service to this often over-looked population. This recognition of her special leadership is confirmation of her extraordinary energy, expertise and commitment to improving life conditions and serving the Greater Austin community. While Cindy volunteers in other Assistance League programs, and the Thrift House, she admits that it is serving these special senior citizens, who continue to capture her heart and her spirit, that she finds her greatest joy. She brings Assistance League further recognition for its work to put caring and commitment into action.

Samia Joseph In 1987, Samia and John Joseph started volunteering at the Children’s Hospital of Austin. They still spend every Friday at the Children’s Blood and Cancer Center at Dell Children’s Medical Center, playing with the children and reading to them. They talk to the parents who wonder where they will get the money to pay for medical services when they must

Some lose jobs because they devote so much time to their child’s care. So, in December 2009, Samia and John founded Superhero Kids, to provide assistance to the patients’ families for living expenses, special education, medical equipment and prostheses — families who are unable to meet the extraordinary costs of battling pediatric cancer. From that beginning, the Foundation has grown to over $1.2 million. Samia runs Superhero Kids almost single-handedly. She works on it full time, takes no pay, and covers all administrative expenses, so that 100 percent of the funds goes to the children and their families.

Lisa Kennedy Lisa Kennedy, her husband Tracy, and their four-legged daughter Susie have been leading by example and supporting the Austin Humane Society for over 11 years. In January 2008, Lisa followed her passion for animals and joined the Austin Humane Society’s Board of Directors as Secretary and has been bringing fresh

“Lisa’s commitment to the cause made her an inspiring leader.” ideas and energy to the group ever since. Lisa has served on the Board of Directors and the AHS Development and Marketing Committee. AHS has served over 45,000 animals through innovative programs made possible by supporters like Lisa.

Her commitment to the cause made her an inspiring leader as the chair of AHS’ largest fundraising event of the year - the annual Rags to Wags Gala, which flourished and increased in income over 50 percent under her leadership. In addition to her unwavering commitment and selfless dedication to the Austin Humane Society’s mission which saves lives every day, Lisa has devoted her time and efforts over the years to many other wonderful community organizations. She is a sustaining member of The Junior League of Austin and an involved member of the Women’s Fund of Central Texas. Her commitment has made a difference in many lives - both animal and human!

Linda McCoySchriever Linda has lived with her family in Austin since 1992. She has always loved the water and fell in love with Lady Bird Lake when she moved to Austin. It was on this very lake that she strengthened her interest in paddle boarding and keeping the lake clean for all to enjoy. After hearing about Keep Austin Beautiful’s Lady Bird Lake cleanup program, Linda became a regular volunteer leader along Shoal

Creek and the hike and bike trail which is now an area very near to her heart. She has become so familiar with the area that she is often used as a resource for development plans for that portion of Lady Bird Lake. Linda brings her family, friends and volunteers, including her sons, ages 7 and 16, to this spot to share her passion to giving back to the lake. When she’s not volunteering in her free time, Linda enjoys gardening, music, learning about the history of Austin and of course, being out on the water.

Cindy Pinto Cindy Pinto is an extraordinary woman by every definition. Largely because of her incredibly hard work and phenomenal organizational abilities, the Austin Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) has become a beloved institution in Central Texas. A week-long extravaganza drawing crowds of over 1,000 viewers, the Festival features excellent

For over a decade Cindy and her husband, David, have hosted the AJFF viewing committee in their home nearly every Monday night throughout the year. Since 2003 she has served as AJFF co-chair taking charge of ordering, scheduling, and coordinating the film lineup - a herculean task that she embraces with the professionalism and sense of fun that have become her signature. An innovative and successful entrepreneur, Cindy owns her own company, Promotions at Work, developing specialty products for a host of corporate and nonprofit clients. She and her husband, David, both give generously of their time and resources, and open their home for nearly any good cause including numerous artists, craftspeople and musicians. Cindy also supports community organizations including CASA, the New Milestones Foundation and Hospice Austin. Cindy has a grown daughter, Runit, and is possibly the best housekeeper in Austin.

Susan Hawkins Sager Susan Hawkins Sager and her husband Alan have long been active in Austin’s Jewish community and are the proud parents of four children and two exceptional grandsons. Susan is committed to her work with New Milestones Foundation (NMF), an organization working in partnership with Austin Travis County Integral Care. Since joining the Board in 2002 Susan, who is NMF’s

Susan was recently certified by the National Council for Community Behavioral Health Care as an instructor in Youth Mental Health First Aid and will join Integral Care’s Mental Health First Aid initiative as a volunteer providing emergency training to schools and other youth organizations. She holds a certification in pastoral care and received the Girl Scout’s Woman of Distinction Award in 2005 and the Eshet Chayil / Woman of Valor Award from the Jewish Federation in 2006.

Lin Scheib Lin Scheib has been in Austin since 1980 and spent 25 years at IBM, where she regularly supported United Way and other non-profit organizations.

Lin began volunteering at Dress for Success Austin in 2005.

In 2010, Lin’s dream to establish a Professional Women’s Group (PWG) came true, a job retention and networking group for clients who are employed or in school. The group meets monthly to hear speakers from the community share

“Lin willingly shares her love, knowledge and experience.” their wisdom and experiences for professional and personal development. In 2011, Lin initiated the Women2Women Mentoring Program. This program matches Dress for Success clients with business professionals who have the skills and experiences relevant to the client’s continued growth. Lin uses her professional life coach skills when working with Dress for Success clients. She is a co-author of the book, Discover Your Inner Strength, and has donated over 50 of these books to Dress for Success Austin. In 2012, Lin joined the Board of Directors.

She has brought in donations from major corporations, recruited corporations to join the Corporate Guild, and speaks frequently on behalf of Dress for Success. Lin is currently involved in the strategic planning for the organization’s continued service to the community.

Karen Shultz It takes a special kind of person to advocate on behalf of children; someone patient, honest, and kind. But to focus their advocacy on child victims of violence, sexual abuse and neglect one must be resilient, passionate and persevering. Karen Shultz is the epitome of both. Having

devoted her professional life to communications and marketing, Karen became involved with the Center for Child Protection because all too often, the voices of victimized children are silenced or ignored. Karen has helped the center raise awareness and resources for child victims. For six years Karen served on the center’s Board of Directors, as treasurer, secretary, vice-president and finally two years as president. Under her leadership, the center grew tremendously, tripling the annual budget and increasing services to children and adults by over 80 percent. As board president, Karen oversaw the executive leadership’s transition. Her donation of time and talent has undoubtedly resulted in improved development and operation of the Center for Child Protection.

Tim Taylor Tim Taylor has been one of Health Alliance for Austin Musicians’ most inspiring and dedicated advocates, giving of his time and talent to ensure that Austin’s low-income, hard-working, uninsured musicians have access to affordable health care. From serving three years

As a real estate attorney in Austin, Tim has been recognized as a leader in his field receiving honors that include the Commendation of Excellence Award from the Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA), and the Austin Under 40 Award. Through his work, Tim has connected HAAM to the Austin business community and strengthened the organization’s reach in the community. His genuine concern for the musicians who make Austin both a unique place to live and a great place to do business is contagious. “Tim is a leader in every sense of the word,” writes current HAAM Board Chair Chris Adams, “he tirelessly dedicates himself to HAAM’S mission and plays a key role in the success of our organization. Board members feed off his energy and passion, creating the synergy necessary to move us forward. I have been motivated by Tim’s leadership to serve HAAM at the highest level and am honored to follow him as Board Chair.”
