WHAT NIGHTCULTUREIS

Culture Night is an annual all-island public event that celebrates culture, creativity, and the arts. This year, it will take place on Friday 23rd September. From 4pm onwards, cultural venues across county Monaghan will stay open for everyone to come enjoy the unique experience of Culture Night, a free night of fun, entertainment, and discovery. Monaghan has a vibrant rich cultural community, and this is a great opportunity to sample the area’s cultural and creative offerings for free throughout the evening. We are delighted to have so many organisations involved again this year and we hope you enjoy exploring the rich cultural landscape of County Monaghan. From outdoor films to music spectacles, various arts, and crafts workshops to drop in and see artists at their work, there is something for everyone to enjoy.Allevents are free to access but remember booking maybe required.

Showcasing artists work, tours of artist studios, exhibition of work and workshops in a variety of art mediums including series of demonstrations in glass and ceramics, sculpture and print. Artists include Joanne Behan Sculpture Clay Moulds for ceramics; Eileen Ferguson Printmaking techniques; Neal Greig Landscape and Seascape colour mixing; Joe Mallon Pot Building with clay; and Sinead Coyle Sculpture Mode rock and wire.

Clones Film Festival are delighted to take part in Culture Night 2022. Once again, this year we will screen two drive in movies in the Clones Credit Union Car Park. 2022 is a very special year for CFF as we celebrate our 20th year. So, come and join us at this year’s culture night where the celebrations will begin.

DRAÍOCHT ‘TOBARPERFORMSANCHEOIL’

This husband and wife duo, also known as ‘Draíocht’, have substantial musical credentials. They have already achieved great things individually, including major awards and two acclaimed recordings. They have toured extensively as Draíocht, having performed throughout the States, Europe, Australia, and New TobarZealand.an Cheoil’ is the third collaborative album by Monaghan-born harper Michael Rooney and Sligo-born flutist June McCormack and their duet playing is outstanding, rich, melodic and subtle, with a unique blend of harp and flute.

A tour of Blayney like no other, this event will bring the participants around Castleblayney to various locations of interest. Along the way they will meet famous people from the history of Castleblayney, and experience stories of the town and beyond. Such stories will include St. Maeldoid and the Black Pig, Big Tom, The Blayney Bombing, Patrick Kavanagh, Lord Blayney & Turlough O’Carolan, JJ Clarke, The Runner McGeough, The famine workhouse, and many more besides.

Tobar an Cheoil’ offers a fourteen-track album with a difference, a mixture of traditional tunes and features twelve of Michael’s original compositions. The album has an unusual variety of tunes, incorporating several reel and jig sets, in addition to newly composed hop-jigs, slip jigs, several airs and planxties by Michael.

Feel the rhythm! Join drummer Peter Crann from WeDrum Ireland to explore drums from around the world. By the end of this fast-moving and humorous workshop participants will be able to play an exciting piece of Afro-Brazillian music, complete with dramatic and fun Suitablebreaks. for all ages.

The Tyrone Guthrie Centre will be taking part in Culture Night for the first time on 23 September 2022. Our resident director, Dr Éimear O’Connor, will lead a highly informative tour through our historic buildings and our modern facilities for Cultureartists.Night visitors may encounter novelists, poets, musicians, dancers, visual artists, depending on who is in residence that night. A quiet residential workspace for local, national, and international artists located in the ancestral home of theatre director, Sir Tyrone Guthrie, Culture Night offers a unique opportunity for the visiting group to see the Big House, to meet some of our artists, and to meet members of our in-house team.

In this workshop, we will be doing printmaking using natural materials found in the world around us. This workshop aims to be both educational and creative, as we will be learning about the native plants and trees found in Ireland. Open to all families and children aged 4-11 years, parents can attend and join in.

Our Culture Night event is aimed at adults and young people aged 16 and over accompanied by an adult.

TALES SA SPEIR

AT GREENANS CROSS SCHOOL

Visit the Patrick Kavanagh Experience and learn about the poet’s life poetry and landscape of Monaghan which inspired him. We tell his story through artefacts, multimedia, text, and film. The experience is located at the heart of Inniskeen in an old church where once upon a time, Kavanagh attended mass.

With mesmerising music and songs by some of Ireland’s finest musicians and singers, you can look forward to a wonderfully interactive show that will have audiences of all ages hooked. Music Generation brings its Music on Wheels Show to your doorstep. The show will feature our Music Educators, Local Musicians and most importantly young up and coming artists from Cavan & Monaghan to celebrate our arts, heritage, and culture. Come along, rock’n’roll, tap, jig it or twerk it out at our musical extravaganza.

SONG OUTDOOR MUSIC FOR FAMILIES

Join Monaghan Libraries Storyteller in Residence, Francis McCarron, and the local community for an evening of storytelling, poetry, and song with tales of schooldays, legend and folklore will all get told! Local tales shared by local tellers are also sure to feature. This is a fun night not to be missed. Admission is free and there’s a cup of tea!

Seascape artist Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher will show you how to transform sounds of the sea into works of art in this one-hour workshop. All materials are provided, just wear old clothes.

During our hour-long session, each person will create a unique piece of art on canvas following step by step instructions while wearing a blindfold. No experience necessary, super fun and mindful activity.
