INTRODUCTION Cruinniú celebrates its 5th Birthday this year with an even bigger and more imaginative programme in counties Cavan and Monaghan.

Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people.

The Cavan Monaghan Programme is a collaboration between Creative Monaghan, Creative Cavan and CMETB Local Arts in Education Partnership. Following an open call to creative practitioners, artists and the wider community to get involved, a diverse inclusive programme has been devised to reach children and young people across the two counties.

From kite making to drama, music making and videoing, getting outdoors to nature to depicting our President in poetry and art! There is something for all ages to engage in. We are delighted to have the Creative Ireland strategic partners involved Garageland Galaxyz, Circus Ireland, Youth Theatre Ireland and Dance Ireland who will bring additional engagement opportunities for our children and young people.

We are excited to host Garageland Galaxyz, at the Iontas Theatre Castleblayney as one of the 8 nationwide locations for live performances streamed directly on multiple platforms which will see several of our young performers live!

After two years of having an online or blended programme, which was fantastic we however look forward to seeing children and young people in person again smiling, laughing, learning through creativity and simply having fun together!

DEVELOPING LULLABY LEAF Ceol Connected present this short film that captures the first research and development phase of Lullaby Leaf, a new immersive, inclusive and highly participatory piece for children with Down syndrome, under their new Sensory SongTales strand.

SHAKESPEARE (YAWN!) Using a series of fun exercises, theatre director James O'Donnell will help young people to realise that Shakespeare isn't as stuffy and difficult to understand as they may think he is. This workshop will break down pre-conceptions and teach young people how to enjoy playing with his language.

THE ART OF MAKING MUSIC & VIDEO Cavan music teacher, facilitator, producer, performer, songwriter and manager of a number of groups ranging from traditional, to funk, progressive rock Daragh Slacke will provide an unique opportunity for young people to learn the art of making music and videos in the weeks leading up to Cruinniú Day.

IRISH POEMS AND PORTRAITS OF OUR PRESIDENT We all love President Higgins and so to honour him, children have worked with Poet Noel Monahan and artist Heather Brett to compose a poem and create Art works to display as part of the Cruinniú celebrations.

JUGGLE IRELAND Circus Explored is a project which sets out to make circus skills possible for everyone, no matter where you are from, or who you are.

Every child in Ireland will be able to join this project from their very own home and learn to juggle in 4 weeks - all for FREE! Register through www.isacs.ie to reserve your free juggling pack then tune in for online tutorials

DANCE WITH HELEN Theatre maker, dancer and multidisciplinary artist Helen Keenan will facilitate dance and drama workshops that will introduce young people to the world of drama, dance and key creative tasks to help them get a taste of theatre and dance performance students in secondary schools across Cavan and Monaghan.

5 SENSES DRAMA PROJECT Sense-ational: Drama Workshops Exploring the 5 Senses. Fun and creativity will be the focus as participants dig deeper into how we navigate the world through our senses. The workshops will offer participants an opportunity to experience drama in a welcoming, relaxed environment where the emphasis is on enjoyment and creativity.

This project is in collaboration with CAMRY (Cavan and Monaghan Rainbow Youth).

KREATIVE DAY @ IONTAS A fun interactive day of creativity awaits children and young people for Cruinniú this year, exploring the art of movement and the movement of Art!!. Get moving in the theatre, using dance, movement, drama and masks; And get Arty while creating your own personal masterpiece to take home.

GARAGELAND GALAXYZ Garageland Galaxyz is a super exciting new nationwide festival for young musicians aged 12 - 18.

With 8 Live Stages all over Ireland (including Iontas) and a giant online multicast featuring young artists, special guests, and music industry workshops, Garageland Galaxyz is set to be one of the biggest events ever seen for supporting Irish Young Musicians.

HARRY MOLD We are excited to announce that Harry Mold will be performing as part of the Garageland Galaxyz line up. Harry, a 22-year-old Londoner with a batch of gritty-graceful songs is a selfproduced multi-instrumentalist who funnels the experiences of an early-twenties youngster in 2021 into infectious rock anthems. ACCORDION BOOK MAKING WORKSHOP Join Mixed media artist Carmel Rudden for this hands on Paper craft workshop. Carmel will be sharing her bookmaking skills and showing fun ways to make your own accordion book with images based around our theme of landscape.

MO THINTÉAN FÉIN Capture the character of Monaghan through a mixture of mediums including textiles, mixed media and paint with artists Mary Scott, Carmel Rudden and Lorraine Colleran. Workshops will run over 4 weeks with final exhibition on Cruinniú na nÓg day 11th June

ART OF VISUAL STORYTELLING Come and find out about local stories, myths & folklore in Bailieborough. Local artists will guide young people through the design process, help them start an Art journal and introduce them to a variety of mixed media and creative techniques with the aim of producing a final artwork to be exhibited for Cruinniú na nÓg. This is a 4 week course beginning on Saturday 21st May. Participants must be able to attend all 4 sessions.

CELTIC FOLKLORE & IRISH NATURE DRAWING

Irish Nature and Folklore are intrinsically linked. These workshops will explore the subject through the medium of illustration.

The Workshops will take place outdoors as this will allow children to delve into Irish nature and learn about the folklore associated with it.

MY BEAUTIFUL SELF Children will take part in a basic life drawing tutorial to highlight proportions and correct placement of features before undertaking a 3D self portrait using air-drying modelling clay.

At the end of the workshop each child will go home with their own 'Beautiful Self' in Clay.

STORYTELLING IN SHADOW ART To celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg Annie June Callaghan will facilitate a playful workshop in Monaghan County Museum where participants will explore three story themes; bravery, monsters and joy. Story cards, drama techniques and cut out artwork will be used to tell a visual story in silhouette.

DROP IN DRAMA Monaghan Youth Theatre Director, Krista Hamilton, will facilitate two drama workshops throughout the day guaranteed to create an exciting introduction to acting through games, improv, and script work. The atmosphere will be friendly, supportive and a celebration of the creative spirit found through the medium of drama.

GO FLY YOUR KITE The sky is the limit when it comes to Kite design! Join us for a fun filled workshop which will encourage children to open their mind to the endless possibilities of creativity.
