OUR EXPERIENCE RIO TINTO In 2019, Monadelphous was awarded a three-year contract with Rio Tinto, with a further two three-year extension options, for the provision of rail network maintenance services on the largest privately-owned and operated rail system in Australia, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The 1,700-kilometre rail network, which services 16 mines and four independent port terminals, is capable of moving approximately one million tonnes of iron ore a day. The network is constructed to carry trains which are typically configured as three head end locomotives hauling 240 ore cars, each with a gross mass of 32,300 tonnes and measuring more than two kilometres in length. Monadelphous’ scope of work includes general track maintenance and renewals services on the coastal component of the rail network, resurfacing services across Rio Tinto’s entire rail network and rail workshop services. Our Track Maintenance and Renewals crews are made up of specialist Track Maintainers and Supervisors who carry out the work supported by a dedicated, regionally based Area Manager, Superintendents, Track Engineers, Safety Advisors and administrators. We also leverage a fully equipped maintenance workshop and stores facility in Karratha and a smaller workshop and stores facility at Tom Price.

AUSTRALIAN RAIL TRACK CORPORATION (ARTC)

BHP

Since 2019, Monadelphous has provided maintenance and construction resurfacing services on the Hunter Valley corridor section of ARTC’s 8,500-kilometre rail network, which services the coal sector in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales.

In 2019, Monadelphous was awarded a scope of work for the installation and integration of Broken Rail Detection (BRD) technology to 85 iron ore wagons and six fuel wagons for BHP at their Boodarie Rail Workshop, near Port Hedland in Western Australia.

This section of the network spans over 450 kilometres and facilitates more than 20,000 train trips annually from 30 different load points to three port terminals.

Monadelphous’ scope, which includes the supply of labour and supervision, involves the installation and commissioning of equipment on the wagons.

Monadelphous’ scope of work includes the provision of plant and equipment, supervision, measuring crews, onsite fitter support, operators, support crews, track certifiers and safe working protection to support and perform resurfacing activities during scheduled track occupancy periods within closedowns and aligned maintenance possessions (AMP’s).

In total, BRD and train integrity equipment is being installed and commissioned on 65 wagons and six fuel wagons, along with a further 20 refurbished wagons (removal and re-installation of BRD and train integrity equipment), including the mechanical installation of brackets, sensors, antennas, conduits and axle bearing end caps.

Offsite support is provided via our dedicated rail support facilities in the Hunter Valley, located at Rutherford, near Maitland.

FORTESCUE METALS GROUP In 2017, Monadelphous was awarded a contract to provide abrasive blasting, cleaning and relining of up to 900 carbon steel ore wagons for The Pilbara Infrastructure Pty Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group) in Port Hedland, Western Australia. The ore cars are used to transport iron ore from Fortescue Metal Group’s various inland mine sites along the world’s fastest, heavy haul railway to the Company’s Anderson Point Facility. Monadelphous’ scope of work includes cleaning, blasting and inspecting the ore cars, undertaking necessary mechanical repairs, re-blasting and lining with polyuria coating, prior to being transported back to Fortescue Metal Group’s Thomas Yard Rail Facility.
