AED AVAILABILITY GROWING IN WAUKESHA

The Waukesha Fire Department has been working to create quick access to AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) in public buildings and spaces. AEDs are used to provide lifesaving efforts when a person is experiencing cardiac arrest. They are critical for helping to save lives and should be used while you are waiting for first responders to arrive.

All-weather AED enclosures are now installed in many of our City parks to offer24/7 public access to defibrillation. To access the lifesaving equipment, bystanders call 911 to receive the access code to open the enclosure.

The City currently has 55 registered public access AEDs, with 26 of those AEDs at City facilities throughout the community.

The Waukesha Fire Department will be out at the Waukesha Farmers’ Markets to help you learn about AEDs, hands-only CPR, and more. Come out to visit them on May 18, June 22, August 17, and September 21, 2024

DON’T FLUSH THAT!

Doing some spring cleaning? Sometimes we forget that the toilet is not a trash can. All wipes and disposable cleaning products belong in the trash. Even though some products are labeled "flushable," they should not go down the toilet as they can clog the sewer system, contributing to costly cleanups and basement backups.

Common Offenders (need to go in the trash can to dispose).

Disinfecting wipes

Paper towels

Swiffer mop refills

Toss-in toilet bowl wands

Shop towels/rags

Towelettes

Thank you for helping to maintain the City’s wastewater operations!

DRUG TAKE-BACK PROGRAM

Have unwanted or expired prescriptions? Did you know? You can drop them off at the Waukesha Police Department (1901 Delafield St.) in their drug disposal box, which is located in the lobby. This helps to keep medications out of the wrong hands and out of the water supply.

WE ACCEPT Pills

Patches Creams Inhalers Liquids Ointments

GARBAGE/RECYCLING REMINDERS

The best practice for garbage and recycling collection is to set your carts or containers out the night before your collection day (unless there is bad weather).

All containers must be out by 6:00 a.m. on pickup day. If the materials are not out on time, the garbage and/or recycling trucks will not return for a late setout.

Please note that garbage and recycling collection will be delayed for the following holidays:

Memorial Day: No collections will take place on Monday, May 27. All collections are pushed back one day, with the normal Friday collections taking place on Saturday, June 1.

4th of July: No collections will take place on Thursday, July 4. Regular Thursday collections will take place on Friday, July 5, and regular Friday collections will take place on Saturday, July 6.

COMMUNITY HEALTH

These programs are offered at no charge through the United for Waukesha Resiliency Center and the City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Dept.

Free Trauma Sensitive Yoga

Everyone in the community is welcome.

A trauma informed approach to yoga makes practice safer and more accessible through intentional language and movement. When we live through traumatic experiences, as our community has, it changes how we interact with the world. Our minds may adapt by reliving the past, disconnecting from our bodies, or becoming hyper alert of what might happen in the future. As adaptations help us survive traumatic experiences, they can make it hard to live in the present and feel like we’re in control of our lives. In this class, participants are guided through gentle moving yoga poses that help strengthen your body, be mindful of your breath, and help build energy. Participants are welcome to participate in a chair or mat (please bring your own) as modifications will be made. AGE

which can be very useful! Join us as we cover smartphone basics on your Contact list, your Calendar, Texting, and Internet use. Please bring your charged smartphone to class for a hands-on learning experience!

These boards will guide you through the work completed on the plan, including the draft transit service recommendations for the City of Waukesha and Waukesha County. Please ask any of the Commission staff if you have questions, and let us know what you think by submitting written comments or speaking with a court reporter. Public comments on the alternatives, submitted by Friday, November 11, 2022, will be considered when developing the final recommended Waukesha Area Transit Development Plan.

Getting Around with Metro Transit!

Traveling alone can cost you time and money. Rather than driving alone in your vehicle or having to rely on other people for transportation, just hop on the Metro Bus to shop, attend recreational activities, worship, or run errands! It is a great way to get around the area, reduce congestion, emissions, stress, and your commuting costs. If you have never ridden a Metro Bus, or ride infrequently, this is a chance to learn how to plan your trips, how to ride the bus and receive a transit center tour. Anyone over the age of 65 is encouraged to bring an ID or Medicare Card to receive a reduced fare ID. Walkers and wheelchairs welcome.

Community Roots

A Tree Planting Program

The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department (WPRF) has had a long tradition of tree planting to honor, commemorate or memorialize individuals or events via monetary sponsorship.

Trees Make a Difference

By sponsoring a tree, you are improving the environmental quality of our community now and for future generations. Trees not only enhance the beauty of the community, positively affecting our state of mind and attitudes, but provide other benefits such as assisting with storm water run-off, improving air quality, and lowering energy consumption and costs.

How the Community Roots Program Works

WPRF will assist you in selecting a beautiful site and an appropriate tree for the occasion. Further, WPRF will purchase, plant and maintain the tree as it does for all the public trees throughout the City of Waukesha. All contributions are acceptable and accumulate toward the price of a tree. Costs are set annually by the Common Council as the assessed value for all types of trees and tree sizes. Currently the said cost is set at $350 per tree.

Tree Planting Request Forms are available on the website. Please scan the QR Code below. Trees are generally planted in the Spring and Fall, so the selected tree decides the season the

tree is planted. Suggested trees include maples, oaks, red bud, dogwood or gingko trees. Exceptions are considered for other tree types depending on the location. Many of the parks are full so alternative locations may also be suggested.

Donors are called with the approximate date of the tree planting and given the option to be part of the planting process if desired. A temporary recognition tag is attached to the tree after planting so that the tree can be identified.

A recognition certificate will be sent to the person(s) being honored or sent to the donors after the tree is planted. The tree is listed in our “Community Roots Log” that lists the location coordinates, history of the tree, maintenance and other special notes. The Log is updated in December each year as the tree is an investment that continues to grow. If the tree is no longer viable, another tree is selected to replace the tree.

Trees are guaranteed for perpetuity

The names of those honored or memorialized and park location are inscribed and displayed on the “Recognition Tree” located in the lobby of the EB Shurts Environmental Education Center, 810 W. College Avenue. The leaves are updated in December each year.

Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. When you honor a relative, friend, or member of your organization by giving a tree you contribute to the infrastructure that appreciates with time. Consider donating a tree today!

“When you plant a tree, you plant a legacy.”
