Fall is a season bursting with fun, fitness opportunities and festivals. From jumping into a pile of leaves to socializing with friends at Oktoberfest, fall offers activities for all ages. Spend some time helping to clean up the Fox River or learn how to kayak at It’s our Fox River Day (pg. 28) on September 21. Then head on over to celebrate at Oktoberfest (back cover) at Frame Park on September 20-21. Coming back this year is Waukesha Unlocked (center spread) on October 12 and 13. This event allows you to see “behind the scenes” at over 80 different sites in the City! Remember to turn in your Trail Challenge forms at City Hall on Sunday, October 13, as part of Waukesha Unlocked.
Stay fit by taking a Combat Fitness Program at the Wisconsin Army National Guard facility (pg. 3), playing pickleball (pgs. 32-33), or taking a dance class (pgs. 19-20). Kids can sign up for Lacrosse, Flag Football or Volleyball provided by Skyhawk Sports (pg. 15). Adults can even sign up for a Zoom course and play the piano before the holidays with our Instant Piano on page 17.
Make sure you stay current with the City of Waukesha “Current Newsletter” starting on page 21. It’s full of information including the dedication of the Parade Memorial at Grede Park on November 21. See page 29 for more information.
Have a fantastic fall!

Free Trauma Sensitive Yoga
Community
A trauma informed approach to yoga makes practice safer and more accessible through intentional language and movement. A certified yoga therapist has received additional training around potential trauma triggers in certain demographics as compared to standard certification. When we live through traumatic experiences, as our community has done, it changes how we interact with the world. Our minds may adapt by reliving the past, disconnecting from our bodies, or becoming hyper alert of what might happen in the future. As adaptations help us survive traumatic experiences, they can make it hard to live in the present and feel like we’re in control of our lives. In this class, participants will be guided through gentle moving yoga poses that will help you strengthen your body, be mindful of your breath and help build energy. Everyone welcome – most people experience or will experience a traumatic event at some point in their lives. Participants are welcome to participate in a chair or mat (please bring your own) as modifications will be made.

Keeping our Parks Clean and Safe
Have you ever wondered what to do when you see graffiti at the park?
Costs all of us!
Do you know what to do when a piece of playground equipment has broken or been damaged?
Who do you contact when a restroom fixture has been vandalized?
These are all good questions. Vandalism and graffiti cost all of us. We appreciate residents letting us know when they see evidence of graffiti or vandalism in our parks.
There are several ways to inform us. Please call the main office at 262-524-3737, during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm). You may also let us know through email on our website or email us directly at prf@waukesha-wi. gov. We recently had multiple reports of damaged playground equipment. Even though we routinely inspect our playgrounds, “public reporting” helped to expedite the repair process.
Users of the parks and playgrounds are our best eyes and ears. Vandalism and graffiti cause closures and expensive repairs. In 2023, our department replaced over 14 plumbing fixtures (faucets, toilets, sinks, etc.) and spent over 200 hours replacing, fixing and taking care of graffiti and vandalism in our parks. If you see suspicious behavior, please call the police non-emergency number at 262-524-3831.
SORRY
program to assist in keeping our parks and trails clean. Groups commit to cleaning the park once a month from March through October and inspect them monthly for vandalism, graffiti and other duties during November-February.
Duties may include trash pickup, graffiti and vandalism reporting, weeding landscape beds, sweeping shelters, cleaning picnic tables, mulching trees/shrubs, planting flowers and/or other activities as approved by the department.
If your family or group are interested in adopting a park or trail, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, April Dethloff at adethloff@waukesha-wi.gov.
With park users, residents and staff all working together, Waukesha Parks will be a clean and friendly space to spend time making memories and having fun with family and friends.

There is no charge to residents for bringing their food waste.
