Longer days of sunny rays are here… it’s summertime in the City of Waukesha! I’m very excited that we are able to bring back many of our favorite activities this summer with safety protocols in place.

Throughout the summer we will continue our celebration of the City’s 125th Anniversary with special 125th themed activities at many of our events. Join us as we celebrate the history of Buchner Park at Buchnerfest and cut the ribbon on the new Buchner Park Community Pool on Saturday, June 12th! (pg. 6). Don’t miss Throwback Monday Night at the Movies (pg. 22) featuring popular films from the past. We are also including a movie night for grown-ups in August featuring “Saturday Night Fever.” Tribute Tuesday concerts (pg. 37) will be back in Cutler Park each month with a very special Anniversary cake celebration at the August concert. Check out the 125th Anniversary brochure included in the activity guide for a list of all the 125th Anniversary celebrations.

I hope you get the chance to splash in a City pool this summer, including our new Buchner Park Community Pool. Pools are scheduled to open Friday, June 11th! Group pool passes are available at a discounted rate through June 3rd, and new this year, passes are available to purchase online (pg. 7).

Looking to get the kids out of the house? Give our recreation programs a try! From summer sports to swimming lessons we’ve got programs that your children will love. They can learn how to play pickleball, sand volleyball, or attend an Art Adventures Camp. We offer exceptional programs at affordable prices that will leave your child with friendships and memories that will last a lifetime!

City of Waukesha Current and Future Impacts to Parks, Recreation and Services In Response to COVID-19 The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department has implemented many changes to park operations, programming, and services in response to COVID-19.

While the vaccine rollout is encouraging, we continue to follow CDC social distancing guidelines. Methods include everyday preventive actions, cleaning and disinfecting protocols to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure while visiting parks and attending WPRF events and activities.

Sign up for the City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry text alerts and get events and program information sent directly to your mobile device.

Everyday preventive actions include:

• Washing your hands often.

• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

• Staying home when you are sick.

• Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow.

• Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces.

• Using a mask in public, especially when it may be difficult to maintain a distance of at least six feet from other people and as required inside through State and Local guidelines.

The “Building Brighter Futures” WPRF Financial Assistance campaign provides access and affordability for families who may not otherwise be able to afford recreation programs. Financial assistance provides positive experiences through before/afterschool/summer programs, swimming lessons, youth enrichment programs, and youth sports.

BRANCHING OUT

EAB Update and Tree Walk As we are starting to feel spring in the air and we “Spring Forward” with our clocks, this is a good time for an Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) update. The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation & Forestry Dept. (WPRF) continues to deal with the devastation caused by a non-native pest that attacks most, if not all, “True Ash” trees. Ash trees are in the genus Fraxinus and are the only currently known target of EAB. Genus is one level of classification of living things, including trees. Some people may be familiar with Mountain Ash, however, this is not a true ash, as it is in the genus Sorbus and therefore is not fed on by EAB. To date, WPRF has reduced the number of managed ash trees under our jurisdiction from approximately 6,000 trees to approximately 3,500 trees. The Forestry Division began treating ash trees in 2010 in order to prevent tree mortality and to slow the spread of the insect. Currently, all existing managed ash trees are treated once every three years after two initial four-year cycles. The four-year cycle was selected with financial and manpower constraints in mind and was determined to be the best way to manage the number of untreated trees requiring removal in any given year. All untreated ash trees have been removed and now we have transitioned to treating as many trees as possible and removing trees that were treated, but do not warrant further treatment due to the presence of EAB, overall condition, or tree location.

One bright spot in the battle against EAB has been the introduction and subsequent use of a more concentrated form of the chemical used to treat ash trees. Treatments have always been done utilizing Best Management Practices and following the pesticide label. Forestry members are all trained professionals and have been able to reduce the time required to treat an individual ash tree to as little as one third of the time needed with the previously used chemical. Despite being more concentrated, the new chemical is priced comparably to the previous insecticide. Less time treating trees has allowed us to transition to our three-year program and provides more time for other important tree maintenance needs, including pruning and replanting.

The Forestry Division makes every effort possible to replace all trees that are removed. To help reduce the likelihood of another new pest coming in and causing large scale devastation to our Urban Forest we have increased our species diversity. The area between a sidewalk and curb in the City of Waukesha and cities in general are difficult places to grow a tree. Many trees that might grow well in a private yard do not do well in an area restricted in size, with relatively poor soil and exposed to road salt and other urban impacts. Furthermore, EAB and new home development has increased demand for trees and the City competes for new tree availability with other municipalities, private landscape contractors and individual homeowners.

We have seen price savings and increased access to desired trees through Growing Agreements with two of our tree suppliers. These agreements allow us to order trees, have them planted specifically for City use and then delivered as they mature over a period of a few years. Only a small downpayment is required at time of order with the balance paid at time of delivery. The City can lock in a final price, untouched by inflation while the tree grows at the nursery.

A great opportunity for those that love trees yet are not always aware of how to identify the many trees growing in the City is our upcoming Tree Walk in the Fox River Sanctuary and the E.B. Shurts Building. The next opportunity will be on Sunday, October 10th. Registration and additional information about the walk will be available in the Fall 2021 Activity Guide.

The walk will be led by members of the Forestry Division of WPRF and will be an informal yet informative opportunity to identify trees using a dichotomous key (provided to each participant). Dress for an outdoor event and wear comfortable walking shoes while we look at the variety of tree species planted over the years in one of the City’s many beautiful parks.

NEW THIS YEAR CARS parking on the Expo Grounds will be parked in every other spot by staff and patrons will remain in their cars or in the parking space immediately to the left of their vehicle. Attendees must follow the direction of staff.

No access to the grounds will be allowed.

Cars use Gate #1 only. 700 spaces available.

PEDESTRIANS will be allowed on the grounds from Gate #3 only. Attendees (groups of 5) must choose a cone to sit near and remain in that area, socially distanced from others.

Please wear a mask when leaving your designated area to use the restrooms. Concessions will not be available.

Fireworks begin approximately 9:30 pm.

Each registered person in attendance will be entered in a drawing to win the newest Sharp Literacy Book, Discover Waukesha- a magical learning space that will take you through the city, from the Fox River to Frame Park. Discover Waukesha books will be available to purchase on site for $14.99.

Pool Safety Considerations: • We will follow all orders issued by our Federal, State and Local Government. We will comply with social distancing regulations, capacity restrictions, disinfecting and other procedures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to ensure the safety of our lifeguard staff and all our swimmers.

• Capacity Limits: The number of people allowed in our facilities may have to be reduced to accommodate social distancing. The set capacity is based on the area of the facility, both in the water and on available deck space, excluding walkways and common areas. In the event we reach capacity we will have signs at the front of the facility when pools are closed at capacity. We welcome you to wait until some guests leave or visit our other pool.

• Social Distancing: Social distancing while at our facilities is the primary responsibility of our swimmers. However, our staff may request more physical space between groups when necessary. Social distancing of at least 6 feet between non-family members must always be maintained while in the facility on deck or in the water.

• Increased Cleaning and Sanitization: Although our facilities are disinfected daily, we ask that patrons sanitize during mid-day use.

Disinfecting supplies will be available at the guard house.

How Do I Buy a Pass?

• New! Pool Passes can now be purchased online.

For detailed instructions: waukesha-wi.gov/515/Pool-Pass-Information • Passes are available for purchase using the Pool Pass Registration Form. The form can be mailed, emailed, dropped off or completed in person. Purchase of the passes at the pools begin upon pool opening.

• In order to qualify for a group pass resident rate, all pass members 18+ must be a resident of the City of Waukesha.

• You do not need to list everyone who will be on the pass at the time of purchase. The payee is not required to be a member of the group.

• You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a pool pass.

• Refunds are not available for pool passes.

What Happens if my Card Gets Lost or Stolen?

• Notify the WPRF Office immediately. We will cancel that key tag and issue a new one. Replacement cost is $5.

Pool Rules and Regulations

All Pool Regulations can be found online: waukesha-wi.gov/512/Pool-Rules.

Here are rules that you should know before coming to the pool!

1. Children under 7 must be accompanied by a chaperone of at least 12 years of age. This includes accompanying the child into the water.

2. You must be 4 feet tall (48”) to use the Horeb Slide and 42” for Buchner Slide.

3. Patrons must wear a bathing suit to swim. Cut-offs and spandex are not permitted. Swimsuits are made of Lycra, nylon or a combination of these fabrics and have a liner.

4. Flotation devices are allowed ONLY during special times.

5. Children not toilet trained must wear swim diapers. (available for purchase at front desk).

6. Bringing in your own chairs is allowed and encouraged.

7. Walk-in food or beverage are prohibited.

Pool Closings

The pools will close in inclement weather. The pool may close if air temperature is 68 degrees or below, and must close if pool temperature is 65 degrees or below. Closings are at the discretion of the pool staff in charge and are based on inclement weather, attendance (less than 20 patrons) or unusual circumstances. Refunds will not be given for inclement weather.You will be notified of all closings online, and on the WPRF information line 262-522-9356.

American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” Program

American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors teach swimming skills. Children often need to repeat certain levels before advancing on to the next level.

Parent Observation and Expectations

To create the best possible learning environment, spectators will only be allowed in the pool area for a few minutes on the first day of class. On the first day, parents will be excused after roll call and the introductory speech. Children must shower before lessons.

Parent observation locations:

• Outside the fence at Horeb Spring • On the Concessions Deck at Buchner Pool Depending on the parent’s comfort level, it is not necessary to come in the pool area on the first day of class. Throughout the session, parents/guardians are encouraged to speak with their child’s instructor after class to check on the progress of their child. Students should arrive 5 minutes prior to class is scheduled to start.

American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” Pool Requirements:

1. Participants should familiarize themselves with the pool rules as posted before entering the water.

2. Showers are required before entering the pool.

3. Remove band-aids and gum before entering the pool.

4. Personal chair vaults are available for purchase at our main office and pool front desks. Swim lesson participants will have an area on deck to keep personal items (towel, backpack, etc.)

5. WPRF is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

6. No food, drink, hairpins, paper or glass containers are permitted in the pool area.

7. Children over 6 years of age must change in gender appropriate locker rooms or use family bathrooms.

8. WPRF requires swim diapers to be worn if your child is not toilet trained.

New to the swim instruction program? Has it been a few years since the last lesson?

A Swim Pretest is an opportunity for: • One-on-one skill screening • Level placement • Introducing yourself and your child to the facility.

Please call the Parks & Recreation office 262-524-3737 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm to have your name placed on the list for the pre-test. Participants are taken on a first come, first served basis; however, if we have an idea of how many will be in attendance, staff can be scheduled accordingly to serve you better. Lifeguard Training

If you’re 15 years or older and looking for a great summer job or challenging career, the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start.

Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you will learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid and CPR/AED. Our program will focus on a variety of environments including pools and shallow water attractions.

Pre-requisites: Students must be 15 years of age by the last day of the class, complete a 300-yard continuous swim, tread water for two minutes just using their legs and retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 10 feet and swim 20 yards with both hands on the brick.

• Must attend all classes for the entire session (all dates listed below).

• Participation does not guarantee certification.

• Written requests for refunds will only be accepted prior to 1st day of class.

• Bring a suit, towel, sweats, water, swim goggles, highlighter and pen.

Private Group Swimming Lessons for Childcare Agencies

Group Swimming Lesson opportunities offer Childcare Agencies the opportunity to keep their children grouped together in swimming lessons. All WPRF instructors are certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors and certified American Red Cross Lifeguards. Each participant will be asked to complete a registration form. Agencies will be asked to submit payment in advance, submit registration forms and determine levels/groupings prior to the first day of the program (please refer to ratio limitation when creating participant groups).

Deep Water Exercise

Whether you are an athlete or weekend workout warrior, deep water exercise is one of the most effective and versatile workouts. Using a buoy belt, participants engaged in this workout can receive a variety of benefits specific to aquatic exercise. Learn the exercises and use them for the remainder of the summer.

Exercising in the water gives you the same benefits as exercising on land, cardio stamina, muscle building and weight loss can all be obtained from a water fitness class. Aqua Zumba incorporates dance and fitness moves and makes it fun for everyone. Aqua Zumba makes it feel like a pool party. **Water shoes are recommended

Tabata is one of the most effective types of high intensity interval training. Diving Lessons – Beginner to Intermediate

Calling all kids! Do you love to be outside in the summertime? Do you love to hang out with friends, play games and NEVER worry about boredom?! Then this is the program for you!! Our playground leaders love to have fun and engage participants through playground activities. Activities will include sports, games, arts and crafts, nature, and much more! We’ve got a little something for everyone! This program is designed to provide “drop-in” activities for children (if you are looking for an all-day experience, we suggest the Summer Explorers program on page 20.)

• At this playground program, attendance is neither mandatory nor enforced - leaders will supervise activities and encourage your child to participate, however, they will not prevent your child from leaving supervised activities if your child desires to do so.

• We ask all parents to discuss with their child when they may leave the playground and their behavior while attending playgrounds.

• We also ask parents to encourage their children to participate in supervised activities within the park to ensure maximum safety.

• Programming will not be provided on Fridays.

Rain Policy for traditional playgrounds: If we see lightning, hear thunder, experience heavy rain/wind in the area, the park program will close, and children will be asked to leave the area for a minimum of 30 minutes. If the storm continues, the program will remain closed the rest of the day. Summer School Wrap Around Program K-6th Grade All Waukesha School District students are considered residents for this program. As part of a cooperative programming effort, this day camp program is available to all students participating in the Waukesha School District’s Summer School Program. Day Camp activities will be held after summer school classes. Day camp staff will meet students at designated school location at the end of the program. Banting, Bethesda, and Hadfield will have breakfast and lunch during the School District Summer School Program. Saratoga and Summit View must bring their own healthy nonperishable lunch and snack.

Day camp activities will include crafts, sports, nature, special events and much, much more! On rainy days, participants will enjoy an indoor schedule of events. Our program ends promptly at 5:30 pm.

Youth Development Summer Day Camp Opportunities

Grab your sunscreen and lace up your tennis shoes because your summer fun will begin at one of the City of Waukesha’s great parks! Day campers will enjoy crafts, games, making new friends and trying new activities! This is an outdoor camp, operating Monday-Friday from 7:30 am-5:30 pm. During inclement weather we will utilize a park shelter/open air shelter. Participants must bring a healthy non-perishable lunch and 2 healthy snacks each day. All registration must be completed by noon on the Friday prior to the start of the session. Payment plans are available.

Waukesha Tennis Association (WTA) and WPRF are partnering to provide high quality, skill-based lessons.

Proper class placement will be determined by both age and skill ability. Our enthusiastic instructors will provide no lines, no lectures, and all fun!

SKILL LEVELS: Pee Wee: USTA Quick Start Tennis is taught for 4-7 year olds. Tennis play format will use a smaller court, slower balls and lower nets so kids will have fun learning and playing tennis. Children will receive one complimentary junior racquet for the summer.

Beginners: Focus will be on fundamentals of grips, strokes, serves and volleys. Drill format will be used with rally and game play introduced. This class is for the student who has no previous tennis experience. Players will be grouped by age and skill to ensure a comfortable and challenging lesson for all.

Intermediate: (Pre-WTA Drill Program): Class will further develop all basic tennis skills, through drills and supervised play. This class is for the student who has some tennis experience. Players will be grouped by age and skill to ensure a comfortable and challenging lesson for all.

Tennis Safety Considerations: • Staff and participants will maintain a safe distance from each other.

• Participants should wash their hands immediately after practice.

Fall Youth Soccer Leagues

WPRF Soccer Leagues promote skill development, teamwork, good sportsmanship, equal participation & fun! Team practices and games will be played at Mindiola and are coached by volunteer coaches. 4K – K and 1st and 2nd Grade practices will be held at local park. All games are played at Mindiola.

What you need to know…

1. Teams are organized according to practice time, location and day.

Practice time is one hour. Participants should sign up for the grade level they are in during the 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR. 2. W aiting list will be created when a league is full. Players missing t he registration deadline will have the opportunity to register on a ny team with open spots. No request granted.

3. Participants will be notified by coaches following the Soccer Coaches Meeting.

4. All teams are coached by volunteer coaches & assistants.

Please indicate your interest in coaching on the registration form. All volunteer coaches will be subject to Background Checks prior to the season.

5. Please indicate participant’s shirt size on registration form: YS = youth small (6-8) YM = youth medium (10-12),YL = youth large (14-16), AS = adult small, AM = adult medium, AL = adult large, AXL = adult extra-large.

6. Required equipment: shin guards. Recommended equipment: soccer ball and soccer cleats – will not have a front toe cleat 7. Players may sign up for Fall and Spring Soccer Season at the same time. Challenger International Soccer Camp This camp provides young players of all abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the heart of their own community. Campers will be exposed to individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, smallsided games and scrimmages. Soccer skills are coached within a framework of character development based on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship.

We offer a cultural education too! Our ever-popular Camp World Cup Tournament allows us to introduce players to the geography, traditions and culture of other great soccer-playing countries. Open Soccer at Mindiola

The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry will be offering open soccer time at Mindiola. This is time when community members are allowed on the synthetic turf field.

We will utilize the two U12 fields, one for pickup games and the other one for working on skills. A staff member will be present to open the field but will not organize games or skills. Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult (18 yrs. and up).

Tag Rugby

WPRF and Catholic Memorial High School are working together again for the 2021 Tag Rugby Program. There are middle school and high school programs throughout the state, and kids can learn the fundamentals in Waukesha. This noncontact program will teach the basics while focusing on sportsmanship, running, evading, passing, and tagging others.

These sessions are designed for 1st – 8th graders, including those just completing 8th grade.

Program description: • 45 minutes of drills followed by 45 minutes of games.

• Skill development by rugby coordinators & assistant coaches.

• Rugby coordinators will officiate and offer instructional tips during games.

• All players receive a rugby t-shirt, new players this year receive a rugby ball.

The official Hooper Hands Basketball Academy 5 on 5 league for kids ages 4 -11yrs. Babysitters Training

The American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training class, designed for today’s 11-14 year olds, features an exciting activity-based format. The class addresses safety issues, preventing injuries, basic childcare, first aid, decision-making skills, age-appropriate behavior and play. Let’s Cook a Variety of Grains

There’s more to grains than the wheat products most of us eat each day! Add some variety to your diet by finding ways to include grains like quinoa, wheat berries, brown rice, barley, bulgur or oats as part of any meal. Participants will gain information on why grains are important and how to prepare them. Participants will sample recipes using several different grains and take additional recipes to try at home. Yoga for Health and Fitness

Yoga is a great low impact form of exercise that uses self awareness and focus on the breath to connect Mind, Body & Spirit. This is a multi-level course designed to meet the health and fitness needs of class participants. With regular practice, yoga can help relieve the symptoms of many medical conditions including arthritis, back problems, muscle soreness and tightness due to sports or inactivity. Bocce “Meetups”

Bocce is easy to learn and is a great way to meet people.

Most everyone agrees you cannot improve playing a game by just playing the game. If you are an experienced player and want to improve your skills, come to these workouts of repetitive drills. With minimal instruction and demonstration, the basic shots of the game will be repeated in drills focused on fundamentals, good technique and good results. POLICIES

1. Activity Guides WPRF directly mails three seasonal activity guides per year to City of Waukesha residents. The Activity Guides become available within the following months: • Winter/Spring – Early December • Summer – Mid April • Fall – Mid August * Copies of the Activity Guide can be obtained at these locations: • Parks, Recreation & Forestry Office • Waukesha Public Library • Schuetze Recreation Center • City Hall – Mayor’s Office • City Hall – Clerk’s Office * Non-residents of Waukesha may subscribe to our “Activity Guide” and have the next three guides mailed directly to your home.

Indicate the following information on your registration form: 2021 Subscription - $9 9800.200S 2. Payment All program fees must be paid in full at the time of registration.

All registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis.

Registration forms without proper payment will not be processed.

WPRF is not responsible for delayed mail delivery, unreadable or improperly transmitted faxes or emails.

3. NSF Checks A $25 service charge is assessed on all checks returned due to insufficient funds, stopped payments or disputed charges.

5. No On-Site Registration Instructors will NOT accept registration at the program site. Fees must be paid at the office prior to participation; your registration receipt may be required at the program site.

6. One Household ONLY In order to help assure that the registration process is fair to all, people may only register for their immediate household. It will not be acceptable for one person to register neighbors/friends/extended relatives along with their own registrations. Only parents/legal guardians may register youth participants. An exception is made for Group Pool Passes.

7.Waiting List Procedure If program(s) chosen have reached the maximum enrollment, your name will automatically be placed on a waiting list. Our department will make every effort to accommodate those on waiting lists (adding more programs, etc.).You will be notified by phone or email of any openings and payment is expected within three busi-ness days of the phone notification of program openings. Waiting lists are kept for the current program season only.

8. Missed Program Policy Programs missed for individual absences (i.e. schedule conflict, vacation, etc.) are not “made up” nor may participants attend programs other than for the one they are registered.

9.Late Registration Policy There will be no pro-rating of program fees for late registration after program(s) have begun. Exceptions for Before/After school and other special circumstances are considered. There may be a $15 late charge assessed for Before/After School programs.

10. Non-resident Policy • Non-residents of the City of Waukesha who enroll/register in WPRF programs and services, shall contribute an additional fee to offset their non-tax status.

• A non-resident is defined as a person who does not reside or own property within the corporate limits of the City of Waukesha (in general, does not directly contribute to City of Waukesha property taxes).

• WPRF may require residency verification for first time registrants that have relocated to the city (Driver’s License or Utility Bill).

• User Fee Surcharge: Persons defined as a non-resident of the City of Waukesha are required to pay an additional surcharge established by the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board.

• Current Surcharge Rate: A 50% surcharge (up to $20 per program) is required per program. (See Policies of Adult Sports for non-resident fees for all adult sports).

• Exception to Non-Resident User Fee Surcharge: Non-residents who reside within the Waukesha School District will not be assessed a non-resident surcharge when registering for any specific program or league that utilizes Waukesha School District facilities.

• WPRF reserves the right to remove anyone falsifying residency information from our programs. No refunds or credits of related fees/charges will be given.

11. Residency Verification WPRF may require residency verification for first time registrants that have relocated to the city. (Driver’s License or Utility Bill).

12. Age Eligibility Verification All participants must meet the minimum age requirement before the last day of the program. Please do not request to have your child put in a program where they do not belong. The ages are set to ensure the safety and benefit of the participants as well as the program leaders.

Therefore, WPRF reserves the right to ask for a legal document of age (Birth Certificate or Baptismal Record) for all program registration involving youth up to sixteen years old to verify age if necessary.

13. Program Maximum Student ratios are set to benefit the student. Please do not ask us to exceed program limits.

14. Registration Receipt Confirmations Your registration receipt is your confirmation of enrollment. If you do not receive a receipt within one week of registering for a program, it is your responsibility to contact WPRF. Refunds will not be given for missed programs if you do not receive a receipt. Be sure to read your receipt to make sure you are enrolled in the proper program/session.

Also, any program changes and supplies will be listed on the receipt.

15. Program Changes/Schedules Due to circumstances beyond our control, some programs may require time or location changes. All participants will be notified (text, email or phone) when possible if a change or cancellation does occur.

16. Program Transfers All participant requested program transfers need to be in writing and received at the WPRF Administration Office at 1900 Aviation Drive.

You may email your request to prf@waukesha-wi.gov 17. Sales Tax Programs (non-instructional) and admissions include State of Wisconsin sales tax.

18. Program Satisfaction Guaranteed!

WPRF is constantly striving to provide you with high quality public recreation programming. We guarantee it! When you are not satisfied with the quality of a program, we want to hear your ideas or suggestions on how we can improve our services. If requested, a 100% refund or credit will be issued by simply contacting the WPRF Office. (Established credit/ refund exclusions apply).

POLICIES 19. Credit/Refund Policy • A program that does not meet its minimum registration requirements will be cancelled within two (2) working days prior to beginning. You will be notified accordingly by phone and/or email. Any fees paid will automatically be credited to the payee’s account unless otherwise notified by payee.

• A credit will be given unconditionally when requested in writing within five (5) business days of program completion.You may email your request to prf@waukesha-wi.gov • If a refund is desired, please notify the office by written request. You will receive a full refund for the full program fee as a credit on the payee’s account. If a check/credit card refund is desired, please notify the office on your written request and note that a $10 service charge will apply. This fee may be waived due to medical reasons. Please allow 2-3 weeks for the refund to be processed.

• Before and Afterschool does not prorate or refund for school cancellations.

• Partial class credits/refunds may be given on a case by case basis due to medical reasons.

• If the payee and participant are not the same and a refund for the program is desired to go to the participant, please inform us of the desire in writing.

• The credit will be available for use up to two (2) years of date of issue as permitted by law.

• For Adult Sports credit/refund policy please refer to Policies of Adult Sports 3.08.

• Pool passes, daily admissions and Splash Cash are not refundable.

• Class supplies are not refundable.

20. Round Up Program Rounding up your program fee helps us to provide financial assistance to individuals & families in need.

21. Annual Recreation Financial Assistance Program Financial assistance is available for City of Waukesha resident individuals or families that meet Federal Income Guidelines. Details on who is eligible and how to apply are available by calling or visiting the WPRF Office. Applications need to be renewed in August each year, and are available at the WPRF Office, Schuetze Recreation Center and on the website.

22. Insurance/Liability WPRF does not provide medical/hospital insurance coverage for persons participating in sponsored activities and cannot assume responsibility for injury to any participants in its recreation programs.

23. Americans with Disabilities Act WPRF complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. We will make reasonable accommodations to support inclusive recreation participation.

Individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to contact WPRF at 262-524-3737 in advance of participation regarding special accommodation needs.

24. Code of Conduct/Participant Guidelines Equal Access: No participant shall, on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin or disability, be denied equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits, or be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage, or opportunity.

Behavior: Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to make recreation department programs safe and enjoyable for all participants.

Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff and/or PRF Board.

Participants shall: • show respect to all participants and staff • any form of harassment will not be tolerated • refrain from using foul language • refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants or staff • show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities Discipline: A positive approach will be used. WPRF reserves the right to dismiss a participant. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit.

25. Lost and Found If you have lost or misplaced an item in one of our parks or program facilities, please contact the WPRF Office. Articles that are found and turned into the office are kept for 60 days. After that period of time, the items are donated to local charitable organizations. WPRF is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. After 30 days, keys, cellphones or other electronic devices are given to the Police Dept.

26. Weather Cancellations Program cancellations due to inclement weather will be announced on our Information Line 262-522-9356, and using Textcaster (requires a subscription to receive texts). A decision regarding evening programs will be made at approximately 4:00 pm. In the event of school closings announced prior to 8:00 am, all WPRF evening activities scheduled at a school site will automatically be cancelled.

27. New to the Area?

WPRF invites you to come in and find out what we offer. We have programs and facilities for all ages. Want to learn more? Give us a call at 262-524-3737. We will be happy to make an appointment at your convenience to show you around and explain any program that is of interest to you.

28. New Program Ideas WPRF invites people who wish to share their skills and talents to consider teaching youth and adult programs with us. This is an opportunity for people with specific expertise to expand their personal interests and experiences and facilitate growth for others.

If you have an innovative idea for a program, or wish to expand on what we already offer, please fill out our “Course Proposal Form” found on our website and email to mberg@waukesha-wi.gov, fax or mail to: WPRF, 1900 Aviation Drive, Waukesha, WI 53188.

29. Photographs Please be aware that WPRF program and special event participants may be photographed or videotaped for promotional purposes (i.e. Activity Guide, Channel 25, website, newspaper ads, etc.).

30. Typo, We Goofed, Human Errors….

Occasionally there may be an error in days, times, registration requirements, or fees in the Activity Guide. If so, the staff will do everything possible to correct the situation promptly. Thank you for your patience and understanding should these situations arise.

31. No Smoking/Alcohol Use • A reminder to program participants: The use of all tobacco products or drinking of alcoholic beverages on premises owned by the Waukesha School District is prohibited.

• WPRF programs, buildings, Oliver Youth Complex & Saratoga Complex are smoke-free. Alcohol beverages are prohibited dur ing WPRF programs, however, permitted at designated facilities with proper permit or by ordinance (i.e. Saratoga Complex).

• Smoking is prohibited in posted “Smoke Free” areas.

32. Safety Concerns WPRF is committed to conducting programs in the safest manner possible and holds the safety of its participants in the highest regard. (ie. wearing dry shoes in SRC Gym) Participants and parents registering their children in recreation programs must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. The department continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions. 33. Cell Phone Use in Locker Room All cell phone usage is prohibited in locker rooms with the exception of an emergency situation.

Your Parks Recreation & Forestry Board is composed of six citizen members and two members of the Common Council all appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Common Council. The Board governs and manages the public parks, parkways, recreational property, recreation activities and urban forestry program (ie. street trees) that reflect the needs and interests of all residents.

The Board typically meets once a month at 6:00 pm at the WPRF Administration & Service Center at 1900 Aviation Drive. Please feel welcome to attend any other upcoming meeting dates found on the website.
