Two-minute stretch TIPS TO LOOSEN YOU UP BEFORE YOUR GAME

Warm up by parking your car at the far end of the parking lot and walking briskly to the club house, this should be easy if you are like me, and are running late for your tee off time. Employ the two minute stretch theory, making sure you stretch out before hitting your drive off the first tee. You can stretch out in the background while your fellow players are teeing off the first hole. Make sure you continue to stretch throughout the game, by stretching out between holes.

This works well when you are backed up on a slow hole, waiting for the previous foursome to finish up ahead. It also keeps your muscles warmed up while you are waiting. Make sure you keep yourself active and fit by getting involved in walking, swimming, bike riding or some other aerobic activities as this will give you stamina to hold up through all 18 holes without losing your edge. The following are some quick stretches to be done on the golf course, allowing you to play at your best while preventing those unpleasant muscle pulls, keeping you in play the rest of the golfing season.

Improve Your Fitness & Your Game THROUGH CONCIERGE AT-HOME PERSONAL TRAINING

W

hether you are trying to break 100 for the first time or are gunning for the club championship, golf is a competitive sport. Golfers are always looking for that one thing that will give them the competitive advantage: golf clubs, golf balls, lessons with the pro, time at the driving range, Etc... There is one piece of equipment that is consistently overlooked and will give the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to improving your game. Your own body!

Spending the day sitting; be it at a desk or in a car, causes the muscles in the front of our hips, Hip Flexors, to become tight and our butt muscles, Gluteus Maximus, to become inactive or weak. This leads to loss of range of motion, loss of strength, and potential injury. This is one of the reasons your lower back can feel tight or painful when standing up after sitting for a period of time. This is just one example, but the scenario can play out in our ankles, hips, shoulders or neck.

Golf is a complex sport that requires the body to function as one kinetic chain. When we swing a golf club, power is being generated by the entire body and passes through subsets of muscles on it’s way to the golf club. If any muscle within the chain is over-tight or not firing properly the chain is broken. The result is a loss of range of motion and power which leads to a less efficient swing and the potential for injury.

What’s the solution? Identify the tight and inactive or weak muscles. The tight muscles need to be properly stretched and the weak muscles need to be strengthened. While you can certainly do this on your own, I recommend working with a professional personal trainer who specializes in corrective exercise.

A professional trainer will be able to design a program that will help strengthen your body and improve proper movement. This will not only improve your golf game by improving your swing, it will improve your overall health and fitness.

What causes some muscles to be over-tight and others not to fire properly? The simple answer is daily life. Here is one example.

DRUNKEN CLAMS Enjoy this recipie from Porky’s Bayside Restaurant & Marina • 1 lb Littleneck Clams • 1 tablespoon minced garlic • 1 x Half small red onion slices • 1 x Half small tomato diced • 1 teaspoon Herbes de Province • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley • 4 oz pilsner beer • 2 oz butter • 3 oz Chicken stock • Sliced Cuban bread

Melt butter, add garlic & herbs, add chicken stock & beer. Sauteed for 3 minutes, add clams and cook until open approx 3 min. Transfer to a bowl, top with parsley & serve with Cuban bread.

Cruisin’ Tikis Key West offers a variety of cruises including Eco, Garrison Bight, Seaport, Swim Stop, Sandbar, and Sunset Cruises. We also offer private parties and special events including, but not limited to: Birthday Parties Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties and Sunset Cruises… Let your imagination design your TIKI CRUISE today!

We now have a total of 6 tikis, each with their own unique name: Freaky, Leaky, Sneaky, Squeaky, Creaky and Tipsy. We can take a maximum of 6 guests per tiki, however larger groups can split onto multiple tikis and cruise together.

Do you need help deciding which tiki cruise to take? Maybe a location is more convenient for you or you are looking for a specific cruise-type…

Cruises departing from the Schooner Wharf Dock (202 William Street) are the Makai Daytime (1 hour), and Makai Sunset (90 minutes). The Makai Daytime cruise explores around the harbor in a nice quick trip. This is great for guests who want out on the water, but do not have much time. The Makai Sunset cruise has a quicker trip to sunset as it cruises around the Historic Seaport, Sunset Pier, Mallory Square, and Sunset Key before the famous Key West Sunset.

Cruises departing from Mellow Ventures (1605 N. Roosevelt Blvd.) are the Garrison Bight (90 minutes), Swim Stop (2 hours), Seaport Cruise (2 hours), and Sunset Cruise (2 hours). The Garrison Bight cruise is slower-paced and offers a preview of the Naval Base housing and Garrison Bight Marina. On the Swim Stop cruise, guests can hop in a mini sandbar or swim in a trench which is better for those who want to snorkel. The Seaport cruise cruises by the Historic Seaport, Sunset Pier, and Mallory Square during the daytime. On the Sunset cruise, guests get to view the famous Key West sunset from a tiki boat

by Sunset Key. Cruises departing from Hurricane Hole Marina (5110 Overseas Hwy.) are the Eco cruise (90 minutes), Sandbar (3 hours), and Hurricane Sunset (2 hours). The Eco cruise will allow you to explore the Florida Keys wildlife. On the Sandbar cruise, you will get to spend time at the local-favorite Boca Chica sandbar. The Hurricane Sunset offers a more secluded sunset cruise.

History of Diving Museum in Islamorada, FL

Dive into the past with History of Diving Museum in Islamorada, FL. Enter through the ship-like hatch and discover 4,000 years of “The Quest to Explore Under the Sea”. The Museum takes visitors back in time to the ancient Greeks, when they used free diving techniques to salvage shipwrecks and collect sponges.

Follow the timeline as human ingenuity finds unique ways to spend longer amounts of time underwater through the centuries.

Learn about Art Mckee, the Father of Modern Treasure Diving, and how he discovered artifacts from the 1733 fleet that sank off the coast of Islamorada. While in the Treasure Exhibit, try lifting a 70 lb Spanish silver bar! Peak into William Bebee’s lab and find out about early marine biology. For those who enjoy literature, embark on a voyage through Jules Verne’s 20,000 leagues under the sea and find out how he incorporated 1800’s diving technology into his books.

The crowning jewel of the Museum is the Parade of Nations. This exhibit displays one of the world’s largest

international collections of hardhat diving helmets. The Military Exhibit describes how the Mark V helmet came to be and how important diving has been for rescue, maintenance and everyday workings in all branches of the military.

For those interested in SCUBA and recreational diving, the Museum leads you through the growth of the sport.

It is amazing to see how much has changed within a period of a few decades. Stroll through the Abyss which features atmospheric suits used to reach hundreds of feet below the surface.

The Museum offers all of these exhibits and more. In addition to our regular exhibits, the Museum hosts Featured Exhibits throughout the year highlighting various aspects of diving and the culture around it.

Visitors don’t have to be divers to enjoy the diversity of the Museum!

There is something for everyone ranging from history, technology, and marine biology to a scavenger hunt for the whole family!

The History of Diving Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit which opened in 2005.

Exhibits and the Museum Store are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Dive in for unique gift items, home decor, art, books and more.

outh Florida is one of the most vulnerable areas on the United States coast for a hurricane. In 1992, Hurricane Andrew, the most powerful storm in Miami-Dade County, registering as a Category V, and the third strongest in U.S. history with sustained winds in excess of 155 mph, came ashore and destroyed many marinas in south Miami-Dade County. Hurricanes that exceed 110 mph can be expected to occur in south Florida about once every 10 years. The population of Miami-Dade County continues to increase, bringing many boaters with little hurricane experience.
