Fall harvest is well underway, but was delayed by heavy rainfall late last week. There were 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 5. Statewide, temperatures averaged 63.4 degrees, which is 1.6 degrees above normal. Rainfall averaged 2.52 inches statewide. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 15 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 23 percent short, 68 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn mature reached 94 percent. Corn harvest was 44 percent complete. Corn moisture at harvest averaged 18 percent. Corn condition was rated 87 percent good to excellent. Soybeans turning color progressed to 88 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 69 percent, 4 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 9 percent complete. Soybean condition was rated 73 percent good to excellent. Cotton bolls opening progressed to 77 percent. Cotton harvest was 4 percent complete. Rice harvest progressed to 61 percent complete. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 42 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
