Missouri Crop Progress and Condition Row crop planting slowed last week as storms moved through the state. Seasonably average temperatures progressed corn emergence and wheat heading. Precipitation averaged 2.43 inches statewide. Temperatures averaged 63.7 degrees, 0.2 degrees below normal. There were 1.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending May 17. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 39 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent short, 78 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus. Corn planting progressed to 82 percent complete, compared to 91 percent for last year and 82 percent for the 5-year average. Corn emerged progressed to 65 percent, 6 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean planting progressed to 16 percent complete, behind both last year and the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Rice planting progressed to 75 percent complete. Rice emerged progressed to 53 percent. Cotton planting progressed to 73 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 10 percent excellent. Spring tillage is 81 percent complete compared to 90 percent for last year.
