Missouri Crop Progress and Condition Report (10/23/17) Cooling temperatures and little rain early in the week allowed harvest to continue. Statewide, the temperature averaged 58.8 degrees, 3.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.98 inches statewide, 0.17 inches above normal. There were 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 22. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 15 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent very short, 26 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 69 percent complete, compared to 81 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 91 percent. Soybean harvest was 45 percent complete, up 15 percentage points from last week. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 16 percent excellent. Cotton harvest was 63 percent complete, up 21 percentage points from last week. Rice harvest reached 92 percent. Sorghum harvest was 61 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 43 percent, compared to 46 percent for the 5year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 25 percent. Pasture and range condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
