Missouri Crop Progress and Condition Report (10/16/17) Rain in some areas slowed the harvest. Statewide, the temperature averaged 61.8 degrees, 3.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.26 inches statewide, 0.62 inches above normal. There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 15. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent very short, 21 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 31 percent short, 60 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 60 percent complete, compared to 73 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans coloring reached 95 percent. Soybeans dropping leaves was at 82 percent, up 13 percentage points from last week. Soybean harvest was 30 percent complete, compared to 32 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 15 percent excellent. Cotton with bolls opening reached 97 percent. Cotton harvest was 42 percent complete, up 18 percentage points from last week. Cotton condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Rice harvest reached 88 percent. Sorghum harvest was 49 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 26 percent, compared to 33 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 15 percent. Pasture and range condition was rated 4 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 43 percent fair, 40 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.
