#2 Grain Sorghum
Fall harvest is nearing completion across the state. There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending November 6. Temperatures averaged 61.8 degrees, 12.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.46 inches statewide, 0.71 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7 percent very short, 18 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 14 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 95 percent complete, compared to 99 percent last year and 93 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 86 percent complete, compared to 80 percent for the 5year average. Cotton harvest was 94 percent complete, 20 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Sorghum harvest was 90 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 78 percent, compared to 79 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 54 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 6 percent excellent.
