#2 Grain Sorghum
Minimal rainfall allowed planting of winter wheat to progress. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 30. Temperatures averaged 61.5 degrees, 7.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.08 inches statewide, 0.57 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6 percent very short, 20 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 14 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 92 percent complete, compared to 96 percent last year and 89 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 73 percent complete, compared to 68 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton harvest was 92 percent complete, 3 percentage points ahead of the 5year average. Sorghum harvest was 85 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 63 percent, compared to 66 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 40 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 8 percent excellent.
