Limited rainfall has allowed harvesting to progress. There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending October 16. Temperatures averaged 60.9 degrees, 2.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.53 inches statewide, 0.18 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 14 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 11 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Corn harvested for grain was 78 percent complete, compared to 87 percent last year and 76 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans turning color reached 97 percent, compared to 96 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 89 percent. Soybean harvest was 34 complete, compared to 38 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Cotton harvest was 55 percent complete, 19 percentage points ahead of the 5year average. Rice harvest was 95 percent complete. Sorghum harvest was 66 percent complete. Winter wheat planted reached 37 percent, compared to 35 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat emerged reached 17 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
