#2 Grain Sorghum

Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (09/19/16) Heavy rainfall in some areas of the state slowed corn harvest. There were 3.7 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 11. Temperatures averaged 72.1 degrees, 4.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.79 inches statewide, 0.71 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 5 percent short, 85 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Corn mature reached 82 percent, 17 percentage points ahead of last year and 9 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested for grain reached 25 percent, compared to 23 percent last year and 31 percent for the 5year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Soybeans turning color reached 55 percent, compared to 48 percent for the 5-year average. Soybeans dropping leaves progressed to 21 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Cotton bolls opening reached 51 percent, compared to 49 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum harvest was 8 percent complete. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.
