Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (09/12/16) Corn and hay harvesting have progressed even with above average rainfall. There were 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 11. Temperatures averaged 76.7 degrees, 4.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 2.07 inches statewide, 1.38 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Corn dented reached 95 percent, compared to 91 percent for the previous year and 94 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature reached 64 percent, 15 percentage points ahead of last year and 5 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested for grain reached 18 percent, compared to 12 percent last year and 21 percent for the 5year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Soybean setting pods progressed to 95 percent, 9 percentage points ahead of last year and 2 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean dropping leaves progressed to 7 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Cotton bolls opening reached 37 percent, compared to 36 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum mature reached 35 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.
