Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (09/06/16) Cooler temperatures and below average rainfall allowed progress for corn and hay harvesting. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 4. Temperatures averaged 73.2 degrees, 1.0 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.64 inches statewide, 0.18 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 10 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Corn dented reached 91 percent, compared to 83 percent for the previous year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Corn mature reached 44 percent, 11 percentage points ahead of last year and 1 percentage point ahead of the 5-year average. Corn harvested for grain reached 8 percent, compared to 6 percent last year and 14 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 54 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Soybean setting pods progressed to 93 percent, 17 percentage points ahead of last year and 5 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean dropping leaves progressed to 2 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Cotton setting bolls reached 93 percent, compared to 98 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum mature reached 17 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.
