Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (08/29/16) Northwestern Missouri received more rain compared to the rest of the state last week. There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending August 28. Temperatures averaged 75.6 degrees, 0.5 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.42 inches statewide, 0.60 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 14 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 7 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Corn dough reached 97 percent. Corn dented reached 79 percent, compared to 71 percent for the previous year and 76 percent for the 5year average. Corn mature reached 21 percent, 5 percentage points ahead of last year but 8 percentage points behind the 5year average. Corn harvested for grain reached 2 percent, compared to 1 percent last year and 9 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 17 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 21 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 95 percent, compared to 95 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean setting pods progressed to 84 percent, 22 percentage points ahead of last year and 6 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 18 percent excellent. Cotton setting bolls reached 83 percent, compared to 95 percent for the 5-year average. Sorghum mature reached 7 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.
