Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (08/01/16) Seasonably average temperatures and precipitation increased the condition of field crops statewide. There were 5.0 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 31. Temperatures averaged 77.7 degrees, 0.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.11 inches statewide, 0.24 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 15 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 13 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Corn dough reached 60 percent, compared to 45 percent for the previous year and 51 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 19 percent excellent. Soybeans blooming reached 71 percent, compared to 60 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean setting pods progressed to 33 percent, 10 percentage points ahead of 5-year average. Soybean condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Sorghum headed reached 56 percent. Cotton squaring was 92 percent complete, compared to 96 percent for the 5-year average. Cotton setting bolls reached 41 percent complete. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.
