There were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 17. Temperatures averaged 77.9 degrees, 0.1 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.23 inches statewide, .51 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 10 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 11 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn silking reached 92 percent, 27 percentage points ahead of last year and 21 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn dough reached 11 percent, compared to 6 percentage points for the previous year and 18 percentage points for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 55 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.
