Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (07/05/16) Much needed rain across most of the state slowed some haying and wheat harvest. There were 4.4 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending July 3. Temperatures averaged 73.3 degrees, 2.8 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 2.58 inches statewide, 1.61 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 18 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4 percent very short, 21 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Corn silking reached 57 percent, 36 percentage points ahead of last year and 28 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Soybeans emerged progressed to 96 percent complete, 39 percentage points ahead of last year and 11 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybeans blooming reached 14 percent. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 52 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Cotton squaring was 69 percent complete, compared to 51 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat harvest progressed to 94 percent complete. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 44 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
