Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (05/23/16) Rain throughout the state limited fieldwork. There were 2.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending May 22. Temperatures averaged 57.1 degrees, 9.1 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.44 inches statewide, 0.44 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 7 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 7 percent surplus. Corn emerged progressed to 93 percent, 22 points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean planting progressed to 46 percent complete. Soybeans emerged progressed to 25 percent complete. Cotton planting was 95 percent complete, 20 percentage points ahead of last year and 17 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Rice emerged progressed to 99 percent. Wheat headed reached 96 percent, compared to 87 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 26 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 43 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Spring tillage is 94 percent complete, compared to 83 percent last year and 87 percent for the 5-year average.
