Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (05/09/16) Drier weather and ideal temperatures allowed for fieldwork to progress this week. Temperatures averaged 59.4 degrees, 1.2 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.09 inches statewide, 1.04 inches below normal. There were 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending May 8. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 9 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 11 percent short, 81 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Corn planting was 94 percent complete, 22 percentage points ahead of last year and 30 percentage points ahead the 5-year average. Corn emerged progressed to 76 percent, 39 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean planting progressed to 23 percent complete. Cotton planting was 90 percent complete, 39 percentage points ahead of last year and 61 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Rice planting progressed to 98 percent complete. Rice emerged progressed to 87 percent. Wheat headed reached 79 percent, compared to 37 percent last year and 47 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Spring tillage is 91 percent complete, compared to 74 percent last year and 75 percent for the 5-year average.
