Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (05/02/16) Rain last week slowed down planting of some row crops. Temperatures averaged 61.9 degrees, 3.0 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 2.33 inches statewide, 1.27 inches above normal. There were 2.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending May 1. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 8 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 17 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent very short, 12 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Corn planting was 89 percent complete, 40 percentage points ahead of last year and 42 percentage points ahead the 5year average. Corn emerged progressed to 57 percent, 36 points ahead of the 5-year average. Soybean planting progressed to 11 percent complete. Cotton planting was 51 percent complete, 40 percentage points ahead of both last year and the 5-year average. Rice planting progressed to 94 percent complete. Rice emerged progressed to 65 percent. Wheat headed reached 56 percent, compared to 13 percent last year and 27 percent for the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 11 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 48 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Spring tillage is 87 percent complete, compared to 57 percent last year and 65 percent for the 5-year average.
