Missouri Crop Progress and Condition (04/18/16) Weather last week provided ideal planting conditions for corn and rice. Temperatures averaged 56.2 degrees, 1.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.65 inches statewide, 0.34 inches below normal. There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending April 17. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8 percent very short, 23 percent short, 66 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5 percent very short, 20 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Corn planting was 58 percent complete, 51 percentage points ahead of last year and 37 percentage points ahead the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Pasture condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 52 percent fair, 37 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Spring tillage is 70 percent complete.
