Corn planting progressed to 63 percent complete, up 16 percentage points from last week. Corn emerged progressed to 29 percent which is 2 percent ahead of the 5-year average. There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending May 4. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 25 percent short, 65 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent very short, 32 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 43 percent fair, 40 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Soybean planting progressed to 4 percent complete. Rice planting progressed to 55 percent complete. Rice emerged progressed to 17 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 50 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 3 percent excellent. Statewide, temperatures averaged 54.3 degrees, which is 4.4 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 1.35 inches statewide.
