Agricultural Summary Farmers took advantage of mostly dry weather to catch up planting progress to the normal pace. There were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 3 percent short, 75 percent adequate and 22 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was 4 percent short, 83 percent adequate and 13 percent surplus. Spring tillage was 97 percent, 32 days behind last year, but same as the 5 year average (normal). Field Crops Report Corn emerged was 97 percent complete, 28 days behind last year but 1 day ahead of normal. Corn condition was 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 45 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Soybean planting was 84 percent complete, 24 days behind last year but the same as normal. Soybeans were 67 percent emerged, 20 days behind last year and 5 days behind normal. Soybean condition was 2 very poor, 8 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Cotton squaring was 7 percent complete, 18 days behind last year and 14 days behind normal. Cotton condition was 7 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 4 percent excellent. Rice condition was 3 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 35 percent good, and 24 percent excellent. Sorghum planting was 92 percent complete, 16 days behind last year but 5 days ahead of normal. Sorghum condition was 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 47 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 2 percent excellent. Winter wheat turning color was 96 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Winter wheat harvested increased 17 points to 23 percent, 24 days behind last year and 8 days behind normal. The southeast district was 55 percent harvested. Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 48 percent good, and 14 percent excellent. Alfalfa hay 1st cutting was 87 percent, 27 days behind last year but 2 days ahead of normal. Alfalfa hay 2nd cutting was 13 percent, 23 days behind last year and 10 days behind normal. Other hay cut was 58 percent, 27 days behind last year, and 2 days behind normal. Pasture & Livestock Pasture conditions were 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 13 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 4 percent very short, 15 percent short, 77 percent adequate and 4 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were 77 percent adequate and 23 percent surplus. Weather Summary Temperatures were average to 4 degrees above average across the state. Precipitation averaged 0.71 of an inch statewide. The southeast district reported 1.64 inches. Dallas and Cape Girardeau Counties reported 4.98 and 4.80 inches, respectively.
