Agricultural Summary Heavy rainfall and localized flooding halted planting and fieldwork across the State. Many areas had flash flooding and flooding from creeks and rivers. There were 1.4 days suitable for fieldwork. The northwest, north-central, northeast, and central districts had 0.3 days or less for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 36 percent adequate and 64 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was 3 percent short, 70 percent adequate and 27 percent surplus. Spring tillage was 84 percent, 35 days behind last year, and 5 days behind the 5 year average (normal). Field Crops Report Corn planting was 86 percent complete, 26 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal. Corn emerged was 72 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 6 days behind normal. Corn condition was 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 42 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Some corn will be replanted from the heavy rains. Soybean planting was 36 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal. Soybeans were 21 percent emerged, 16 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal. Sorghum planting was 39 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal. Winter wheat headed was 96 percent complete, 22 days behind last year but the same as normal. Wheat turning color increased 20 points to 29 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 51 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Alfalfa hay 1st cutting was 34 percent, 26 days behind last year and 8 days behind normal. Other hay cut was 18 percent, 24 days behind last year, and 8 days behind normal. Pasture & Livestock Pasture conditions improved to 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. A few reports were received of army worms in pastures. Supply of hay and other roughages was 13 percent very short, 22 percent short, 63 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were 66 percent adequate and 34 percent surplus. Weather Summary Temperatures were 1 degree below average to 3 degrees above average across the state. Precipitation averaged 4.38 inches statewide. All districts reported 3.95 inches of precipitation or more.
