Agricultural Summary Early week rains across the state slowed planting and tillage progress. Some minor flooding resulted from heavy Memorial Day weekend rains across northern and central parts of the state. There were 3.6 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supply was 2 percent short, 64 percent adequate and 34 percent surplus. The northeast district is rated 97 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was 1 percent very short, 7 percent short, 77 percent adequate and 15 percent surplus. Spring tillage was 82 percent, 30 days behind last year, but same as the 5 year average (normal). Field Crops Report Corn planting was 83 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Corn emerged was 57 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 7 days behind normal. Soybean planting was 30 percent complete, 15 days behind last year and 6 days behind normal. The northwest, south-central, and southeast districts increased over 25 points last week. Soybeans were 10 percent emerged, 16 days behind last year and 6 days behind normal. Cotton planting increased 35 points to 93 percent complete, 1 day behind last year but 1 day ahead of normal. Sorghum planting was 39 percent complete, 14 days behind last year but the same as normal. Winter wheat headed was 88 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 1 day behind normal. Wheat turning color was 9 percent complete, 23 days behind last year and 14 days behind normal. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 12 percent excellent. Winds knocked down some wheat in the northeast and southeast districts. Alfalfa hay 1st cutting was 29 percent, 22 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Other hay cut was 12 percent, 22 days behind last year, and 6 days behind normal. Pasture & Livestock Pasture conditions improved to 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 53 percent good, and 7 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 20 percent very short, 30 percent short, 49 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were 1 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 17 percent surplus. Weather Summary Temperatures were normal to 3 degrees below average across the state. Precipitation averaged 1.67 inches statewide. The north-central district reported 2.48 inches.
