Agricultural Summary Farmers took advantage of the warm dry conditions to plant over two million acres. There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork. This is the first week with over 2.1 days suitable for fieldwork since April 7th. Topsoil moisture supply was 4 percent short, 80 percent adequate and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 83 percent adequate and 7 percent surplus. Spring tillage was 75 percent, 29 days behind last year, but same as the 5 year average (normal). Field Crops Report Corn planting increased 42 points to 70 percent complete, 21 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal. The north-central, west-central, central, south-central districts increased over 50 points last week. Corn emerged was 27 percent complete, 24 days behind last year and 15 days behind normal. Soybean planting was 13 percent complete, 16 days behind last year and 9 days behind normal. Soybeans were 1 percent emerged. Cotton planting advanced 46 points to 58 percent complete, 10 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal. Rice planting was 83 percent complete, 25 days behind last year but 3 days ahead of normal. Rice emerged was 64 percent, 18 days behind last year and 1 day behind normal. Rice condition was 6 percent poor, 53 percent fair, 32 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Sorghum planting was 20 percent complete, 17 days behind last year and 4 days behind normal. Winter wheat headed increased 33 points to 70 percent complete, 27 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Heading in the southern third of the state was nearing completion. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 28 percent fair, 59 percent good, and 9 percent excellent. Alfalfa hay 1st cutting was 16 percent, 22 days behind last year and 3 days behind normal. Other hay cut was 6 percent, 24 days behind last year, and 6 days behind normal. Pasture & Livestock Pasture conditions were 1 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 36 percent fair, 46 percent good, and 6 percent excellent. Supply of hay and other roughages was 28 percent very short, 31 percent short, 40 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus. Stock water supplies were 1 percent short, 87 percent adequate, and 12 percent surplus. Precipitation averaged 0.15 of an inch statewide. The southeast district reported 0.44 of an inch
