Missouri Weekly Hay Summary—Week ending 03/29/2013 The state received another blast of winter this past week some areas have now had three major snows over 10 inches this winter. Although the 80 degree days this time last year were nice; the memory of what came later in the year is not. Farmers very thankful and finding it hard to be upset about moisture, but tolerance is fading as already light supplies of hay dwindle even more. Some fertilize has been spread between snows and once warmer weather arrives for good pastures and hay meadows should green and grow at a fast pace. Hay supply is light, demand is light and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ or for current listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales prices listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 12001500 lbs).
