Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 02/08/2013 Last week's deluge of rain in the Southeastern portion of the state officially moved them to be free of drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. The rest of the state showed more mild improvements in their drought status but generally all areas did improve some. A year ago Missouri was 95 percent drought free and there was little indication of the battle Missouri farmers would face in 2012. However optimism is creeping back into the minds of many producers as they look forward to spring rains and a new crop of hay, corn, beans and calves. The hay market is somewhat stagnant with the majority of end users satisified they will make it to grass on previous purchases. However the producers who were short-bought from the get-go are still seeking hay and are having less trouble finding it now than they have since last summer.
