High temperatures with no precipitation across most of the state took its toll on crops this week as all crops declined in condition. Corn condition rated poor to very poor increased 22 points to 48 percent while soybeans rated poor to very poor increased 14 points to 49 percent. There were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture declined to its lowest point this year at 71 percent very short, 26 percent short, and 3 percent adequate. The 5 year average topsoil moisture condition is 4 percent very short, 16 percent short, 59 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture also declined to 58 percent very short, 35 percent short, and 7 percent adequate. Field Crops Report Corn silked was 56 percent, 12 days ahead of last year and normal (5-year average). Corn in the dough stage was 7 percent, 2 weeks ahead of last year and 13 days ahead of normal. Corn condition was 19 percent very poor, 29 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 17 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Soybeans emergence was 96 percent, 9 days ahead of last year, and 13 days ahead of normal. Soybean blooming and beyond was 11 percent, 9 days ahead of last year and 7 days ahead of normal. Soybeans were setting pods in the northwest, central and southeast districts. Soybean condition was 18 percent very poor, 31 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 17 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Sorghum headed was 8 percent, 19 days ahead of last year and 8 days ahead of normal. Sorghum condition was 7 percent very poor, 32 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 22 percent good, and 1 percent excellent. Alfalfa hay 2nd cutting was 86 percent, 18 days ahead of last year, and 27 days ahead of normal. Alfalfa hay 3rd cutting was 14 percent, 19 and 23 days ahead of last year and normal. Other hay cut was 94 percent, 23 days ahead of last year, and 34 days ahead of normal.

Pasture & Livestock Pasture condition continued to decline to 38 percent very poor, 38 percent poor, 20 percent fair, and 4 percent good. The south-central district was 100% poor to very poor. Supply of hay and other roughages declined to 18 percent very short, 36 percent short, 44 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Stock water supplies also declined to 21 percent very short, 34 percent short, 44 percent adequate, and 1 percent excellent.
