Below normal temperatures again this week with a little snow and a little freezing rain along with gale force winds just letting everyone know that we are still officially in fall and winter doesn’t begin until next week. All of this fall weather forcing cattlemen to supplemental feed forages and most having to add some expensive energy to their rations. Most cattle producers still in good shape with plenty of big rounds still sitting in the corner of the fields as we have only started the feeding phase of this year. State wide hay supply is moderate, currently demand moderate to light and hay prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory, visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/ hay directory/ or for current listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/ haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales prices listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs) Premium to Supreme quality Alfalfa 140.00-175.00 Fair to Good quality Alfalfa large round bales 75.00-120.00 Small, Large squares 90.00-140.00 Good quality mixed Alfalfa and grass small square bales 3.50-5.00 per bale; 30.0060.00 per large round bale.
