Missouri’s Fescue Seed crop following the same trend as all other crops in the state this year, falling slightly later than normal. Farmers in the southeast region of the state are just starting or preparing to put fescue in windrows. Many buying stations expecting to open around the week of the 23rd to begin receiving trucks. Nearly all areas projecting a good crop year as scouting reports are very positive for higher yields than most have seen for several years. Winter seed sales reported as very slow. Those factors carrying much more weight than high fertilizer or fuel cost. Acres always an issue as to what final statewide yield totals and with many areas seeing delayed hay cutting due to an extremely wet spring many expect farmers to cut seed before haying which could provide many more lbs of seed. Early preseason bids steady to weak with most leaning to a lower market, reported from .45-.55 per lb with many buyers still trying to nail down just exactly what will be their paying price once they begin to see trucks.
