Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Haying is back underway after many producers got to take a break for rains.

Although most farmers got rain there are still several small isolated locations that have received no or very little rain. A few Alfalfa producers are just getting started on the second cutting of hay. Early second cuttings appear to be short on quantity just as the first cutting was. Grass hay is being baled every where this year most farmers are covering more area to make a bale but farmers are wanting to put hay up even if its not top end hay its still fair to good and as some have said if it we start feeding early it’ll feed. Hay movement is moderate with a few sellers down right swamped trying to get hay delivered; prices are reported as steady to firm supply is moderate. Missouri Regional Fescue Seed Prices – Week ending 06/17/05 Most buying stations are just starting to get a few test loads, many feel that the trucks will really begin to show up this weekend and by this time next week activity should be very busy. The crop looks to be very limited, due to cool temperatures in late April and then prolonged dryness throughout most of May. Moisture on most varieties of seed is testing mid 20’s to lower 30’s.

Prices are firmer than where we ended last season due to the expected lack of crop and very small amount of carry over from last year. One thing that is putting pressure on our prices is the expectations of a good crop in Oregon this year. Even with the pressure most buyers are relaying a stronger undertone to the market once harvest really begins.
