Rescue dog is inspiration for new children’s book

North Devon is proving to be a hotbed of producing unique new children’s books at the moment. Sharon Brown, from Rose Ash near South Molton, is the latest to join the ranks of local authors with ‘Mitzee the Scribble Dog Goes to the Shops’.

“The book is aimed at children around the ages of 3 to 6, and was inspired by a real life dog called Mitzee who was rescued by my daughter and family, from the Ilfracombe Dogs Trust,” Sharon told Molton Monthly.

“As in the book, Mitzee is always wet, muddy, dirty and up to mischief, but is a loveable dog!” added Sharon. “This, along with observing the vivid imaginations of children, inspired the story.” She hopes this will be the first in a series children’s books in which Mitzee and Amelie have all kinds of adventures.

This is Sharon’s first book, and it has been illustrated by her lifelong friend Mik Elliott - she says he has captured Mitzee and her character beautifully. A donation of £1 from the sale of each book is going to the local Dog’s Trust charity.
