England rugby call-up for Emma
South Molton’s Emma Sing has been selected for the senior Red Roses rugby squad to play against New Zealand, Canada and the USA. The England team is made up of a mix of youth and experience, featuring 11 uncapped players. All matches will be shown live on BBC Two.
Emma, who now plays for Gloucester-Hartpury WRFC, scored from a conversion kick on her debut for the under 20s national team in March 2019 (pictured right). She began her rugby career aged just 6, playing for South Molton RFC alongside the boys until her early teens.

“It’s a huge honour to be selected,” Emma told Molton Monthly, shortly after hearing the news. “This season I’ve just been focusing on playing the best I can be for Gloucester-Hartpury. I’m constantly learning and I can’t wait to be able to develop my game over the next few weeks.”
Her mum Wendy said, “We are enormously proud of Emma’s massive achievement. Her dedication and hard work has paid off with her being selected for the senior England squad.”
South Molton’s current crop of young female players say they are thrilled to hear of Emma’s selection. “We’re all ecstatic that Emma will be featuring in the autumn games. It’s an amazing achievement and she is a huge inspiration to us all,” said Ashleigh Rollins. “We’re so proud of everything you’ve achieved so far and can’t wait to see how you do. Good luck Emma!”
