Exmoor’s northern lights

On St. George’s Day a rare astral spectacle adorned the night skies over North Devon and Exmoor, and Louise May was one of those lucky enough to see it and record this special moment for our photo of the month.

“Seeing the Aurora has long been a dream of mine, but I never imagined that I would see it with my own eyes, right here on our beautiful Exmoor. The Northern Lights are quite pale to the naked eye and often can only be seen by the camera, but at times we could see the pillars dance across the sky,” said Louise.

“I was amazed when I looked through the camera to see the stunning display of light and colour - and the Lyrid Meteor - an experience shared by my daughter and I that we’ll never forget.”

“I spend a lot of time on Exmoor and the surrounding areas capturing special connections between couples and the beautiful landscape, so to see this spectacle here and so close to home was incredible.”
