NSW SES to address 2022 flooding response

The NSW State Emergency Service will be conducting a community flood forum in Molong on June 28.

The focus of the event will be to explore the needs of the business community and local residents regarding the flood response, preparation and recovery from the devastating 2022 floods.

Zone Commander for the NSW SES Western Zone, Chief Superintendent Brigid Rice, said the organisation is keen to work with the Molong community to build better practices to assist with flood preparation and response.

“Given that Molong is such a flash-flood prone community, we are really wanting to speak to the community about what we, as an organisation, can do better in future flooding events to assist Molong and surrounds,” she noted.

“This will be a very interactive event and we are pleased to be working closely with Cabonne Council to deliver it late next month.”

Chief Sup. Rice said the event is being managed, planned and delivered by the NSW SES and will address all aspects of flood response in the hope of developing stronger plans for flooding

to assist the Molong community.

“We are inviting community groups, residents and business o w n e r s along to share their thoughts about the gaps that exist in flooding in Molong.

“It has been suggested publicly that this is a meeting exclusively about upstream flood gauges and related funding.

“This is one aspect of the event, but not the sole focus. We want to explore all issues that affect Molong and then use that feedback to better inform our flood response and even advocate on behalf of the community,” she added.

The event will take place at the RSL Auditorium between 6.30pm and 8.30pm on June 28.

Beforehand, NSW SES representatives will be visiting Molong businesses on June 9 to discuss their particular flood concerns and to personally invite them to the June 28 event.

Following Andrew Gee MP (Independent Member for Calare) speech to the House of Reps (Parliament House, Canberra) where he called on the Federal Government to launch a parliamentary inquiry into the response of insurance companies during recent natural disasters in Australia - Andrew called a meeting in Molong to discuss where locals, affected by the November 2022 flood stood after almost 7 months battling it out with their individual insurance companies.

Pleasingly, Andrew Gee MP heard, listened and came to Molong to find out the problems first hand.

It was an informal meeting held last Monday night 5 June 2023 at 6 pm at the RSL Club where some 50 people attended to talk about their experiences in attempting to gain insurance claims to cover their losses.

The meeting heard of some positive stories but also of the frustration experienced by the majority of whether the 13/14 November 2022 flood event was caused by stormwater or flood.

With the majority having stormwater damage only insurance contracts - the companies overwhelmingly rejected the claims citing ‘flood’ being the cause, the only cause, on that fateful night/early morning. With some insurance companies sticking with what their individual hydrologists findings/reports claimed the event to be.

Apparently there were disparities in individual hydrologist reports - leaving those with huge losses in confusion. The toll taken on these individuals has been to the extreme.

MP - were keen to deliver their hydrologist reports to the Member for Calare’s office and to work together as a group to seek relief from the grief of loss, starting all over again, and the difficult investment decision of whether it be worthwhile to them, mentally and physically, to reinvest. Given their insurance company’s refusal to cover the full extent of their client losses.

Where do we take these claims?

Andrew Gee MP was asked. “I can push for an enquiry” said Andrew - which he has been doing and now waiting on a response from the Prime Minister.

Andrew Gee MP said that the residents of Molong, Eugowra, Canowindra and Cudal deserve better. “The heartbreak and tragedy faced by these communities has been amplified by the shocking and cold-hearted response of insurance companies,” he said. “The stories of insurers trying to do the right thing are few and far between.”

Some of the attendees at the meeting brought with them their insurance brokers who offered to phone insurance companies on behalf of independent business owners and community members in attendance.

At the end of the informal meeting - those attending said that they were pleased to have the time with Andrew Gee and others to help figure out “who do we go to” and agreed that a Parliamentary Inquiry being sought by their Federal MP was certainly a positive to the dilemma and confusion their insurance companies had placed them in.

Opinion Thank you to Andrew Gee MP for coming to Molong last Monday night to talk with concerned members of the local community about the progress of their insurance claims following the November 2022 natural disaster.

During the weeks before - Calare’s Independent member of the Federal Government stood and spoke of the devastation of the towns and villages, farming lands - the people - across the electorate .

Speaking from his seat in the House of Representatives Andrew Gee MP spoke with a determination to ensure the best possible representation for his electorate. And to suggest positive outcomes for insurance companies to hear and be relied on to deliver when natural disaster strikes.

Strength, determination and courage emanated from the Molong gathering - and a renewed and welcomed feeling that the Federal Member was there, with them, and willing to seek more positive outcomes.

Whilst Andrew Gee did not offer to deliver outcomes attendees spoke of - his compassion to the people who attended, and their plight in facing the darkness alone of their previously trusted insurance companies - brought forward a unified voice and restored the right to keep on going.

Thank you to Andrew Gee MP for your response to the people of Molong.

Hope and the preparedness for each attendee to have another go at negotiations was the outcome for those who attended.

Hello, . As many are now aware the long standing Daroo Business Awards within our Cabonne Shire provided an annual recognition for all Cabonne businesses - both large and small.

However, with the onset of COVID and the recent disastrous floods - these awards and their social gathering awards nights have fallen by the wayside.

Cabonne Council are no longer in a position to participate in any way with the reintroduction of this popular long standing Cabonne tradition.

In the meantime - there are three members of the Daroo Committee who have stepped forward to ensure the tradition is not lost and that due congratulations continue to be celebrated within our Cabonne Business Community.

This small committee has arranged two events in the forthcoming months.

Firstly, on Wednesday the 19th July at the Molong RSL Club at 6.30 pm there will be an open meeting to discuss

the future and the format of the Annual Daroo Awards. All are welcome to participate.

Secondly, on Friday evening the 3rd of November a free function is to be held to celebrate the diverse business in Cabonne and to show support for all of the businesses affected by the recent flooding.

There will be a special array of finger food at no charge - but drinks will have to be purchased by attendees.

This special gathering of businesses across Cabonne will be held at the new Cabonne Community Centre opposite the Council Chambers - a reason in itself to celebrate. This will be a free ticketed event with all business and the general public invited to register for tickets with a fair distribution of tickets to each village. Molong Advancement Group (MAG) Markets Coordinator Madison Jeffries said the Molong Markets will be fit for a King, should the newly crowned monarch ‘drop in’.

“There will be barista made coffee as well as bacon and egg rolls to warm you up before you spend the morning strolling around a wide variety of stalls that will offer something for everyone,” Ms Jeffries said.

“There will also be entertainment as well as rides for the kids and market-goers are then 4

encouraged to head to historic Bank Street to support our shops, cafes and pubs.”

“Our Easter Monday markets were a huge success - we had great feedback from stallholders, visitors and locals.”

The markets ordinarily fall three times a year on public holidays, which are Easter Monday, the King’s Birthday long weekend Monday in June and Labour Day on the first Monday in October.

If federal Treasury modelling is right, the Energy Bill Relief Fund is going to make a real difference for low-income households.

AS announced on Budget night, energy bill relief is coming, and you’re going to need it. You hear increases of 25 per cent bandied around, but the detail of rising prices and bill relief are not always straightforward. Here’s how it works.

The default market offer

Every year, the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) sets the default market offer. This is the maximum price that retailers can charge electricity customers who have not opted for a (cheaper) offer.

The energy regulator does not set a single default market offer, but a series of them: one for each distribution zone in areas where there is no other electricity pricing regulation.

Currently, South Australia, New South Wales and south-east Queensland have no other price regulation.

If you live in a distribution zone without other price regulation and you have found a better deal on an electricity supply contract, you are still very likely to be affected by the default market offer. Suppliers use it as a guide for when they put together better offers. In other words, if the default market offer goes up, so will the price on an electricity contract that’s better than the default market offer.

From 1 July this year, the Australian Energy Regulator increased the default market offers for the NSW distribution zone serviced by Ausgrid and Essential by 20.8 per cent. For the distribution zone serviced by Endeavour, the default market offer goes up by even more: 21.4 per cent.

The default market offer for South-east Queensland (serviced by Energex) increases by 21.5 per cent, while for South Australia, serviced

by SANP, it increases by 23.9 per cent.

Default market offers don’t apply in the ACT, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland (except south-east Queensland). These have separate electricity pricing regulation to protect consumers.

However, there too, note will be taken of the default market offers put together by the Australian Energy Regulator.

wholesalers there are subject to the same kind of demand, supply and pricing pressures as wholesalers in NSW and southeast Queensland.

How much electricity bill relief

The idea of the energy bill relief announced by the federal Government is for the states and territory to match what the federal Government puts in. Not all states and territories have agreed to that.

In NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania, the bill relief will be $500 per eligible household.

Who can get it?

Anyone whose name is on the household’s electricity account and is a concession card holder qualifies.

The Commonwealth Seniors Health Card is an eligible concession card for the purpose of the energy bill relief scheme.

How to get it

You don’t need to do anything right now, but you may have to do something later on, depending on where you live. Th energy bill relief package is a joint effort between the federal, state and territory governments, and each state and territory may do things a bit differently.

In most cases your electricity provider will automatically apply the bill relief to your electricity account, and this will reduce the amount you owe on your next bill.

If you already get an existing electricity bill concession in your state or territory you don’t need to do anything. You will start getting the bill relief from 1 July 2023.

If you have an eligible card or get a payment from Services Australia or the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), and you aren’t already eligible for help from your state or territory, you don’t need to do anything. Services Australia or the DVA will contact you in September 2023, to tell you what to do. Read more about existing schemes and eligibility.

When you will get it If you live in NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory or the ACT, you will get bill relief quarterly in the 2023/24 financial year.

The Veg Growers’ Diary: June

Somewhere between the gentle decline into autumn and the slippery, icy depths of winter lies my favourite time of year. There’s the crunch of leaves underfoot, steam rising from a mug of tea and a stack of books that have waited patiently all summer to be read. But before I can pack away my tools, and settle into the domestic comforts, there is work to be done.

At this time of year the garden enters cruise control.

The pests have all gone into hiding, there is little to no watering to be done and plants have seemingly stopped growing. This makes it the perfect time to get everything in order for spring.

My first job has been to prepare a new 10 metre by 2 metre garden at the back of my house.

There are many ways to prepare a new garden bed.

My preferred method begins by cutting the grass on the

site with a lawn mower on the lowest setting. Next, I place a thick layer of cardboard over the area ensuring that the garden area and the surrounding path are both covered.

I build the garden edges on top of the cardboard before wetting it thoroughly. Finally, carefully wheelbarrow compost into the garden bed. The cardboard works as a barrier to the grass and weeds below, depriving them of light and killing them, before it breaks down. This is a great method to use as it eliminates the need to dig into the existing ground and it means you can transplant your seedlings into the new garden straight away.

Because my new garden is so large I needed to have local mushroom compost delivered right into the garden bed from a digger. This meant that laying cardboard, and keeping it in place, would have been impractical. So this time I have opted to put the compost directly onto the ground and cover it with a layer of black plastic. The plastic will need to stay on the garden bed for many

months to deprive the weeds of light. I will not be able to use this garden bed now, but in spring I will have a lovely weed free area, full of earth worms, to plant in. In spring the plastic will be removed with care and kept in the shed for future use.

My second job is to clear my garden paths of weeds and put down a new layer of woodchip. Many gardeners will do this annually, however, my paths have not been replenished since 2021. Having woodchipped paths between raised garden beds has many benefits including increasing fungal networks and reducing the need to mow or trim around the garden edges.

These kind of jobs can of course be left for spring; however, I find that my to-do list is always so long in the warmer months that it is nice to have some things prepared in advance.

(R) Black plastic is a less attractive method used to kill persistent weeds.

It should always be used with care and never buried in the garden.

Cabonne Council's Cabonne Recovery Plan meeting not well attended

It's not only about painting the local silos - it's about long-term tourism activation

Opinion In this age of no respect for anyone in positions of power - at the mercy of ratepayer and community negative judgments - Cabonne Council held a well-advertised community meeting at the Molong RSL Club on Tuesday night (6 June 2023) to present ideas and outcomes gathered over the past 7 months to address the flood and stormwater problems that hit the town in a deluge on 13/14 November 2022.

The same community meetings and presentation have also been held in other Cabonne towns and villages affected by the flood/ stormwater destruction. Hopefully attendance numbers by local communities in those towns and villages would have been better attended than in Molong.

The Express will report on aspects of this plan in next week's issue.

Overall, the attendance number in Molong was disappointing considering the number of business, homes and organisations affected by the flood/stormwater deluge. However, let's give full points to the Management, Mayor and Councillors who extended their work days to do their best to keep local people informed. And, to listen to their views, concerns and challenges.

Molong can certainly be a town of high expectations and negative judgments when it comes to Cabonne Council. However, when the local community are invited to contribute - to provide constructive feedback to the right people in the best possible setting ... well, those who one would think would take the time to attend and help to make a difference to town, their own situation, to local business, and future planning there is hardly any progress. Why? Because there is not enough interest shown by those who should be there - and are not there.

The only plausible outcome from the Molong

situation is that nothing is likely to change.

There simply is not enough community interest. Cabonne Council do their best ... but it seems that, in the Molong community, at least - absenteeism remains - even after such a local natural disaster that has affected the majority of the town in one form or another.

Until that long-time historical problem in town continues ... local residents can expect mediocracy in return. Don't like the potholes in your road? Don't like stormwater and creek flooding? Don't like the current works beautification program to the local CBD? Inconvenient parking? Not enough parking?

Not happy with the local water supply? Footpath broken? Not enough pedestrian crossings?

Cabonne Council ... should?

At least the small group who went along to Tuesday's important meeting and presentation

by Cabonne Council may have heard the constant dilemma of a council team - the majority relatively new to their jobs - who have had to learn 'local knowledge' in their own way (right across Cabonne) - trying to work with not enough money, a whole lot of information about floods, stormwater, streetscape beautification etc - and not enough funding from the NSW Government to fix many a problem that residents scream about. The only answer is "get involved". Accept that as residents we all own the problem - we all live here - work here - run businesses here. In these times we have to accept that the problems Molong faces today is "ours".

What can you do? Pick up a pen, place your fingers on your keyboard and send your letter to the Premier of NSW and simply say - Molong needs your help. A sudden influx of letters to the Premier's office from Molong (or your town) will make a difference. Don't like to get involved?

Well, expect nothing to change.

Letter to the Editor RE: Rainbow story time reports on Local ABC Radio.

Dear Editor, The Local ABC Radio breakfast program has recently reported on “Rainbow Story Time” to be hosted at Council libraries. Rainbow Story Time is an event at the library at which a “drag queen” reads stories to infants and children.

The Upper Lachlan Council is planning such an event at its Crookwell library. The council claims it will promote community acceptance of diverse culture.

I write to argue that such an event is really, really wrong. It is most inappropriate to expose little children to such an event. The ABC presenter is entirely misguided in presenting no case against it. Only the case for has been presented.

Surely ABC staff understand that a drag queen is a misguided male who presents a “cheeky parody” of female sexuality (as quoted by the drag queen himself during an interview on air).

Such parody dishonours all women everywhere.

He is a most harmful role model to hold up to little children. His action will do untold harm to our women and children.

All women and the man who honours his mother, wife or daughters should register their strongest objection to Rainbow Story Time. The end result will be the loss of women’s rights which our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers fought so hard for. It will not promote acceptance of diversity, but rather, perversity.

Silo art needs long-term tourism activation

In a recent report by the Griffith Business School, Dr Amelia Green and Professor Scott Weaven the results from 1,100 responses to the first national silo art survey have been compiled and assessed to examine the economic and wellbeing effects of silo art in regional towns.

The Australian Silo Art and Wellbeing report found that silo art alone will not automatically save local economies and long-term plans for activating and developing both the site and town should be in place. This finding was based on survey responses focusing on the experiences and perceptions of visitors, residents and local business owners.

64% of local business owners reported that silo art did indeed bring an increase in visitors to the town, however only 47% said that it had a noticeable positive impact overall on the businesses in their town.

Dr Green says while the report confirms that silo art consistently attracts visitors, the extent to which it directly stimulates local economies and individual businesses varies widely across each of Australia’s silo art sites.

“Whether an individual business benefits from silo art visitors depends on many factors such as where the business is located within the town, if other businesses are closer to the silo art site and if the business offers facilities like toilets,” Dr Green said.

The report recommends that silo art towns provide up-to-date online information about the art, local businesses and opening hours to assist visitor’s trip planning. Benefits for visitors include expanding arts engagement, inspiring arts participation, positive re discovery of Australian art, culture, history and towns, and positive emotions stimulated by opportunities to give back to struggling rural and regional communities in small yet symbolic ways.

When it comes to social impacts, the report found silo art benefits

local communities by stimulating happiness through enjoyable interactions with high quality art (according to 70% of all resident participants), beautification of the everyday environment (72%) and reinforced or increased town pride (65%).

Meanwhile... the Express reckons The devastating November 2022 flood came at a time when decades of small steps were heading to a better place for the wider community - business community, sporting community and volunteer organisations.

However, there was fragmentation of the 'coming together' of the individual achievements - in all categories - to place Molong on the map as a tourist destination.

Working together with 'what we've got' was seriously missing - before the flood - and moreso now as we scratch our combined heads and try and figure out which way to go.

The first survey conducted since the introduction of giant painted murals dotted across rural NSW/Australia has worked in so many ways. Probably moreso for residents surrounding the murals.

But like anything built to promote a rural town - the giant painted silos is only one part of the story.

This one initiative needs to be surrounded by long-term tourism activation. It's a bit like saying "we've painted the silos" and then building an expectation that - alone - this will work in bringing tourists to town. Thing is ... 'it doesn't'.

“Soccer, sunshine and smiles at Hunter Caldwell’ MDSC hosted another round of home games at Hunter Caldwell on Saturday. Players and supporters were all smiles, enjoying the beautiful weather. What a stark contrast to the freezing conditions endured the weekend prior.

The Committee work hard to ensure that home games run smoothly, and we extend a big thank you to all of the wonderful helpers who served in the canteen, cooked the bbq and assisted with set up and pack up on the day.

Isn’t it lovely being greeted by friendly faces all around the grounds!!.

A few of the MDSC teams were low on numbers due to illness, but so many eager kids put up their hand to play a second, or even a third game to help out. What a great display of club spirit. There would have been some very weary children by the end of the day.

All teams will enjoy a bye for the long weekend. We hope that everyone enjoys a nice break.

Molong Junior Magpies & Walla Update 4 June 2023 Forbes The Molong Magpies Wallas made the journey to Forbes for a balmy winter’s day last Sunday 4 June 2023. U6 drew Bathurst Gold twice (Canowindra out with COVID), U8 Orange City and Bathurst, U10 Bathurst and Orange City.

U6 Special recognition goes out to the U6 Bathurst Bulldogs, who travelled an impressive two hours each way to face our mighty Magpies in back-to-back games.

In our first match against the Bulldogs, the game started off at a leisurely pace with the magpies and bulldogs coming across a patch of sand on the field to have a play with. However, it was Alex who sparked excitement and focus when he dashed across the line and scored our first try in the corner. Young Hughie took charge as halfback, sporting the hi-vis, but eventually fatigue set in, leading him to pass the responsibility to Rhys. This proved to be a valuable learning experience for our young team.

As the game progressed into the second half, Maverick warmed up and eagerly joined the action.

In Luke's second match of the season, the young Magpie showed more confidence in his game - he is making great progress and has become a real asset to the team. Special thanks to his Dad Rod for helping out as assistant coach to Peta and Brett.

With a long break in between matches, the team settled in for sausages and hot dogs before finding some energy to warm up for the second match. In off field drama, another head clash resulted in some tears before the side pulled together to commence their second game.

In the second match, we witnessed the debut of Budda, who exhibited promising tactics and crossed the try line with great skill and determination. Watch out for this one.

While Isaac showcased his talent for the Bulldogs, scoring multiple tries for the opposition, he also demonstrated to his younger brother Henry how the game should be played. Inspired by his brother's performance, young Henry retaliated and put on an absolute clinic, earning himself the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. Congratulations, Henry, on a remarkable display of rugby prowess!

Ollie's dedication to studying the game during the week was evident in his exceptional side-stepping and deceptive manoeuvres, leaving the opposition in awe.

A special mention goes to Rhys and Quinn for displaying remarkable sportsmanship by assisting the Bulldogs, who found themselves short of players. Their efforts exemplify the spirit of the game, and we couldn't be prouder of them. Additionally, during the match, they took the time to have a friendly chat and a well-deserved break for refreshments, leaving the bulldogs with only four players on the field mid match.

U8 The mighty Molong Magpies under 8s travelled to Forbes on a warm winter’s day which meant the kids finally had a fast track for footy. The Magpies took on Orange City for a third time in three weeks. With a focus on tackle technique and safety for the previous two weeks, the boys were on fire in defence, making meters without the footy and effecting great turn overs. Fun was had in the sun finishing the game on top!

The weekend provided two opposite games with the second game against an inform Bathurst Bulldogs being a much harder grind, but again the team rose to the challenge and played some great footy. ‘Best Magpie’ went to Lincoln Morley for his brilliant attack; he really found his feet. And Player of the Day went to Jono Christie who has grown in confidence and ability as the season has progressed. The pies are hot 😊 U10 Forget Michael Hooper's farewell game. Forget the looming Rugby World Cup later this year. If you weren't at Forbes last Sunday you have missed out big time!

The U10s put in a solid and robust performance against the classy Bathurst Bulldogs in Game 1. It took until half time for the Magpies to shake out their morning warble and switch into 'rugby mode'. The second half saw the team realise the importance of competing and winning the ball at the breakdown and did a marvellous job of retaining the ball for long periods of time. Te Paea Pineha showed strong commitment, flying in from the wing on a whim and at will into any breakdown where her teammates needed. Tom Salter stepped up his running game with powerful and determined running. The only time Tom wasn't running straight through the Bulldogs was when he was making a multitude of tackles! Torsten Ellis made a late cameo onto the field and soon made up for lost time. Chasing the ball and action all over the park like

a kelpie pup! Hunter Roberts was also instrumental and directed play like a conductor, passing wide when there was space or tucking in and straightening up when secure The Molong Express meters were needed. would like to thank Game 2. Orange City.

Arlo Webb was pivotal in defence and is to be congratulated for his perseverance and tenacity. Toughest player went to Te Paea Pineha and Player of the Day to Tom Salter.

The Toughest Player award went to Ta Paea Pineha for her defensive effort especially drive around the ruck.

Thankyou again to Forbes for hosting the day. Another plug for additional U10s players with only ‘a will to become a Magpie’ a prerequisite! Game days are Sunday and kids get anywhere between 40mins to 80mins of rugby. Training is Thursdays 4.30pm at the rec - anyone interested in playing is most welcome to come along.

Next week sees the club have a general bye so rest up young Magpies.

Molong Golf by the Ghost Walker It was interesting on Sunday at the Royal Molong Golf Course how the teams were organised for the twelve hole Ambrose event we played where we had eleven players.

It was just a coincidence but the ‘B’ team played together onsisting of Bruno, Bell and Balley. The ‘cacky handed’ (those who play left handed) played together in Trevor ‘Choppers’ Lamb and Mark Frazer. There were the S’ team in Stubba and Scott and also the ‘T’ team in Troy and Tom. That left the ‘M’ team in Matt Philpott and Myself. Well perhaps not the ‘M’ team but we do support the same Sydney football team (along with Stubba) that starts with ‘M’. Yeah, that team.

Thanks to Matt for organising the golf. It was good to see John Wright’s young grandson, Tom, have a hit with us. He hits the golf ball really well.

In the end it was decided that the ‘S’ team were “stupendous” and had won in Stubba and Scott. The ‘B’ team were “bad” and said they all had a shocker, the ‘T’ team were “terrific”, the left handers, despite standing on the incorrect side of the ball, probably came in second and the less said about the ‘M’ team the better - although there was equanimity about us, not.

Stubba, besides being in the winning team, showed great intellectual depth and insight when in discussion after the game made the statement “if you’re not here, you must be away.” A philosopher if I’ve ever heard one!

Sport Defending our Bulls

Reported in the Central Western Daily on Monday 5 June 2023 in reference to the Molong Bulls vs Orange United at the Molong Rec. last Sunday.

“While it was 14 points short of the official mercy rule, Bulls officials told the CWD that a combination of match day injuries and a number of juniors playing up led to a coaches call to end the game prematurely.”

“The size difference between the clubs was evident from the sideline with Molong’s smaller bodies unable to cope with their opponent’s monster forward pack.”

Down, but not disgraced, the Molong Bulls 1st Grade Side is an enthusiastic team of young local and district players.

Right behind them, and part of the 1st Grade side are a number of the Bulls Under 19 players who often run onto the paddock when needed by the 1st grade side.

Well, the Express can say that this is the tradition of real true blue country rugby league where wages are ‘nil’ but community is the name of the game.

MOLONG MAGPIES RUGBY

Teamwork, helping each other, caring and respect for each other was the reason for the Bull’s coaches intervention and in abandoning the game.

Molong is glad for this intervention. No game is worth serious or physical damage to our local Bulls players who head onto the paddock with pride in their hearts - and ‘local’ being their leader.

Whilst our Bulls teams love their game - and in time will be a powerful team to reckon with ... the Express applaudes their individual team member efforts and the coaches decision.

Go the mighty Bulls - we love you.

In the meantime we look forward to the Manildra Rhinos levelling the score with Orange United. Gooo Rhinos!

The Ghost Walker’s Gem Of The Week: Paul was out playing golf with the local parish priest. On the first hole they played the priest slices his tee shot into the rough. Paul hears him mutter “ Burrendong” under his breath.

On the second hole they play the priest hits his tee shot into the dam.

“Burrendong” the priest mumbles, but louder this time.

On the third hole the priest puts his tee shot up on the green. “Praise the Lord” he says. He misses the putt and it’s back to “Burrendong” again.

By this time Paul couldn’t withhold his curiosity any longer and asks the priest what’s the go with this “Burrendong” thing.

“It’s the biggest dam I know” replies the priest.
