Census reveals little growth

Manildra avoids it again!

If you are wondering why Bank Street seems to be always full of cars then don't look to local population growth. The Australian bureau of Statistics last week published results of the 2021 Census for the Molong town statistical area (see map right) It reveals that Molong has 2595 residents - up just 62 from 2016 (2.4%) and just 80 since 2011. (3%). Meanwhile the Manildra district recorded the same actual resident growth figure as Molong since 2016 - up 62 to 822 - or 7.5%. Cumnock has 491 residents, a 10% increase over 443 in 2016. There are several - some unique - reasons why Molong's growth has been sluggish at best. These range from lack of housing stock (to buy or to rent), little investment

in new serviced blocks or infill / dual occupancy opportunities on Molong's large residential blocks, water & sewerage supply and natural cost penalties building in a rock filled area - to name but a few. Given that Molong is on one of the main highways in the West and close to Orange, which is growing fast, the small growth in Molong appears mystifying. We will look at some recent studies on this subject in the coming weeks.

NAIDOC WEEK
Manildra Rhinos will do anything to avoid playing the Molong Bulls in Molong. Last weekend, the Rhinos drove water trucks from Mandagery Creek and emptied them at the Rec making it unplayable. (We have the evidence - see photo above). Last year, and the year before that, they went into "lockdown" because of some pandemic or other, and stayed at home. They didn't turn up for six years before that. (OK - that was probably because the Bulls weren't alive then either.)
Seriously, will we ever see our two favourite teams here again? Meanwhile Manildra first grade remain atclose to the top of the ladder with Molong a bit further down. Molong's Youth League side however are unbeaten at the top of the table The Bulls are off to Condobolin this week and Manildra are at home for their "Kids Day".
