Stricter water restrictions to apply in Molong and Yeoval With water supply levels continuing to fall, Cabonne Council will introduce stricter water restrictions in Molong and Yeoval as from this Friday (8 February 2019).

Restrictions in Molong will rise to Level 3, while Level 4 restrictions will come into effect in Yeoval, where Council provides a secondary nonpotable supply.

Level 2 restrictions will remain in place in Cumnock.

Council has asked for assistance from residents in all three villages to reduce their consumption and will be monitoring water usage following the latest increase in restrictions.

MOLONG: Under Level 3 restrictions, the following limitations apply: • Watering of lawns and gardens with inground systems and fixed sprinklers is not permitted; • Watering of lawns and gardens with handheld hoses, micro-sprays, drip systems and soaker hoses is permitted between 7am-9am and 6pm-8pm every second day, according to an odds and evens street number system.

(If a property has an even number, residents may water on even days of the calendar and odd street numbers on odd days. If a property has no street number, it is treated as an even number); • Topping up and filling garden water features is permitted between 7am-9m and 6pm7pm; • Irrigation of new turf is permitted for one week after laying, after which Level 3 restrictions on watering lawns apply; • Washing down walls or paved surfaces is not permitted; • Topping up private swimming pools and spas is permitted between 7am-9am and 6pm-8pm; • Washing cars at home is permitted on grass between 7am-9am and 6pm-8pm; • Mobile water cartage is permitted from Council’s Depot standpipe between 7am4pm Monday to Friday.

Mudgee

POLICE are calling for information from the public after a tractor worth $30,000 was stolen from a property in Gulgong.

The theft occurred from a rural property on Blue Springs Road in Gulgong between January 12 and 31.

“Police from Mudgee are seeking assistance in locating a stolen Case 4 wheel tractor valued at around $30,000,” NSW Police State Rural Crime co-ordinator Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said.

Police officers have released a photo of an identical vehicle with the hopes the public may have seen it in the area.

Advocate was contacted by a trail bike rider who said the landslide and large boulder had been moved.

The rider, who asked not to be named, said since the landslide he and others found there was enough room for them to pass by the boulder and continue along the track. During his ride on the Australia Day long weekend, however, he discovered the boulder had been moved and pushed down into the gully.

He said people had also cut down trees near the council-erected earthworks further up the track so they could continue driving.

Council’s director engineering services Darren Sturgiss confirmed that council had not moved the boulder and was “unable to determine” how it was pushed off the track.

Blayney

BLAYNEY REAL ESTATE agency Fenwick Realty was destroyed by fire late on Sunday night after an intruder entered the building and torched the office, putting the lives of tenants that lived above the offices at risk.

Licensee of the agency Edwin Smith said that it was the second attempt at

setting fire to the office.

“Two weeks ago they sprayed kerosene through the front door and lit it, but it either went out or they were interrupted and all they did was damage the wall and carpet near the entrance,” he said.

Mr Smith said that he was appalled to discover that the arsonist had put the lives of those living upstairs at risk.

Officer in charge at Bathurst Police Station David Abercrombie said that the fire was being treated as suspicious.

Bold $25M plan For new Orange Sports Precinct

The Express has joined with the Molong Yarn Market, Molong Rotary and the CWA to look at ways to help local farming families through the drought.

With the lack of water for home/family use being a critical problem - the Express has approached Cabonne Council to ask if the showers at the Rec. kiosk may be accessed by local farming families. This is the sort of helpful initiative which could be duplicated throughout the villages and towns of Cabonne.

The CWA has a project in place to help orphaned lambs survive. 'Woolly Jumpers for Lambs' is a colourful project which knitters (women, men and families) can contribute to.

Most local knitters have odd bits of wool that could be used to make a jumper or two for lambs challenged by the cold, loss of mum, and the drought.

Barb Strong of the Molong Yarn Market has

some balls of wool at the Craft Cottage she is happy to pass on to willing knitters. See pattern for 'Woolly Jumpers for Lambs' P.15. The pattern is also available from the Express office or Molong Yarn Market. Finished jumpers and/ or wool yarns can be left at the Express office for collection by farmers and/or for distribution to other areas.

With Molong being a close and caring 'extended family' we have the opportunity to personally hold out a warn hand to farming friends/neighbours. A visit (perhaps take a homemade cake, casserole or a small handmade gift - sit with a cuppa, or a beer and ask R.U.OK. Keep in touch via phone, email or visits. Could there be a more caring gift than that of 'time'?

Whilst there is so much going on at the moment with drought relief projects and programs - the strength of our small communities is to do what we have always done in these times. Stay close, talk, offer a warm hand and show that we care about each other.

Last Friday one of the Euchareena Rd Waste Processing trucks from Orange turned over going around the bend at the top of the hill opposite the Golf Course. Nothing really spectacular, the driver was fortunately unhurt. The waste trucks are tall and top heavy.

The incident however prompted farmers and residents along the route to again express concerns about safety and adequacy of the route to what has always been considered an inappropriate site for a waste dump.

Hopefully a review of the incident will look at the condition of the road including its width and lead to corner improvements.

Meanwhile Orange City Council have applied to make changes to the strict conditions imposed in 2012 by Planning NSW on the use of the site. :KLOH LQ WKH PDLQ WKH\ UHĂ€HFW current conditions - submissions to Planning NSW have been made reminding both Planning NSW and Orange City Council that there is QR MXVWLÂżFDWLRQ IRU FKDQJLQJ DQ\ condition that was imposed to

manage risks to the Apiary industry.

The Council was reminded that it should not be assumed that there are no bees within 5 kms of the site.

While the address of an apiarist’s registered business may be located outside the 5km zone, this has no correlation to where hives are located. A substantial number of hives continue to be consistently located in close proximity to the Euchareena site because of the natural attributes of the locality.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, in Bathurst for the Bathurst 1000 race last Saturday travelled to Blayney to announce applications for the Program are open.

The $75 million project is designed to support businesses which are feeling the impact of farmers KDYLQJ WR VSHQG VR PXFK RI WKHLU ÂżQDQFHV RQ IHHG “Pop into Blayney and other parts of the Central West and get to enjoy what this wonderful part of Australia has WR RÉŁHU ´ 0U 0RUULVRQ VDLG “The government can’t make it rain, but what we can do is invest and bring forward investment in projects and services and other things that keep the money churning around in the towns. “It keeps the hairdresser open, the mechanic open,

places like this farm supply shop, and it will help us get from where we are now, to where we want to be when it’s UDLQLQJ DJDLQ ´ The minimum grant amount per application is $25,000 and applications can include multiple unrelated activities up to the total funding amount of $1 million.

The Government has stated that the program will provide an initial 60 Councils with up to $1 million each to support regional communities through the drought.

This funding is intended to provide immediate shortterm support to communities facing hardship arising from drought. It will fund projects that provide local HPSOR\PHQW NHHS PRQH\ ÀRZLQJ WKURXJK ORFDO VKRSV and suppliers and support drought-relief activities.

The guidelines have been broadened to allow for a range of additional drought-relief activities to be funded, including drought relief events and other drought relief

THE NSW Government has committed $1.2 million to a business case for a new regulator, which will allow better management of water on the Macquarie River.

Minister for Regional Water Niall Blair visited Gin Gin weir recently and said the project will form part of a future water strategy for the Macquarie, which will identify infrastructure and policy solutions for water use in the region. “Water is fundamental to life in our regions and as we are currently seeing, water security in the Macquarie is vulnerable in times of drought,� Mr Blair said.

LAST week Forbes received it’s best rain since November last year but not enough to break the drought after months of below average rainfall.

The 24 hour period up until 9am on Friday was Forbes’ wettest day (26mm) so far this year, but total falls are still well below the same time last year.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology Forbes has received 154.8mm between January and now, compared with 298.2mm in the same period last year.

Forbes’ October’s rainfall stands at 31.6mm and with further rain forecast, farmers are hopeful of reaching the long term average for the month of 39mm.

Last week’s rain was more than September (6.8), August 912.2) and July (0.8) combined.

The Stapelberg family of Molong, Deon, Eliza and their two delightful daughters, Thea and Janita (left) are the ‘first cab off the rank’ in the Express new column, ‘Read all about it - Our Family’. With new residents joining the Molong and district communities - the Express plans to develop this column as an ‘introduction and welcome’ point to new community members. Don’t forget to say a warm traditional Molong/Cabonne ‘hello and welcome’ to our new residents.

Deon, Eliza, Thea and Janita Stapelberg became Australian Citizens at the Molong Australia Day Ceremony held recently at the local rec. grounds. Migrating from South Africa to Australia some 6+ years ago - the family found their way to Molong where Deon is the Pastor of the Molong Community Church strongly supported by his wife, Eliza and daughters Thea and Janita.

South Africa to Australia to Molong ... how did the Stapelberg family find their way to become part of the Molong and District communities?

Eliza explains ... “I will not lie - leaving all that we knew and loved in South Africa was hard. But the trust and security we have in our Saviour Jesus, knowing He goes with us every step of the way, was my focus.

“It was difficult in some ways as most shops in Australia have different names to what we were used to in South Africa to describe business activity. The products were different and tasted different. I think we have now adjusted well.

Why Molong? “Well the story started in Maryborough, QLD. The job offer my husband was given brought us over from South Africa - but ended after a mere 15 months later not after 4 years which was our expectation.

“We needed to be given a new sponsor as we were on a sponsored 457 Visa. We had already made Australia our home and didn't want to consider going back to South Africa.

“Long story, the McNab Davimac (Molong) family stepped up and made it happen for us. We are very grateful to God and the McNab family. We see this journey as God's hand in our lives.

“I'm a very temperate climate kinda girl - the hot hots and the cold cold extremes do get to me - the weather in SA is similar to that of Molong.

“Thea and Janita were homeschooled in South Africa so as to not have TOO many changes in ALL changed circumstances - we stuck to what is better known as Distance Education.

“Stepping from a South African based Distance Education to University in Australia was not clear, so Thea did some Online bridging courses and received 2 offers from CSU. She is currently studying for her Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology) at the CSU Wagga campus.

“For Janita's creativity she needed some changes and the excellent Art teacher at MCS, thinking of a smoother access to university, made MCS an option for our youngest daughter.

Janita will start at CSU Bathurst campus this year to study for her Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations).

“We came to Australia to make this country our new home.

After a long road, we are thankfully now ‘citizens’.

“When we first arrived in Molong we looked for a church and eventually joined the Molong Community Church as we felt it was where we could be the most helpful. We aim to love and share hope with the people of Molong and beyond.”

Deon writes ...

“As far as the process goes - it has not been easy to migrate to Australia. There were lots of hoops and loops to jump through - and paying for all of the visas required was expensive.

“Leaving South Africa for me, was easy, because I believed that God had something for us to do here. Also there was no future for my children over there (South Africa).

“Initially, we moved as a family to Maryborough QLD. However, after 15 months the company that sponsored us did not have work for me so I had to find new work or return to South Africa. We only had 3 months to find new work and a new sponsor.

“Davimac in Molong was looking for someone with my skills and they were struggling to find an Australian, with the right skills, willing to relocate to the area. As a last option they went through the process of sponsoring us on our existing 457 visa after I applied for the position and was willing to move to Molong.

“I love working at Davimac and also love the fact that I can lead the Molong Community Church. Molong is a good town to live in and my children have had opportunities that I don’t think many other towns would have been able to give. I like the friendliness of the people in and around town. We have found it rather easy to make friends with people in Molong.

“Until becoming a Citizen it was like being part of something but also not being part of it. The plan is to stay around Molong as long as we can work here and make a difference in the community. Will we live here forever? I don’t know, forever is a long time. God may have plans for us that we are not aware of right now.”

Janita writes ...

“It was interesting when we first moved here. I thought Australia was gonna be so different from South Africa and in some ways it is. The weather is so similar to where we lived in South Africa.

“NSW has interesting laws when it comes to foreigners and schooling. Because of the costs my family found it easier to home-school me. Then when we became permanent residents two years ago - my parents and I decided it was best if I went to Molong Central School as I would be able to do more subjects that I enjoy. When I started at MCS, I had a lot of misgivings as I had only seen what ‘school’ is like on TV - but because MCS is small it allowed me to adjust to the new environment without being overwhelmed and everyone at the school were so friendly.

This year I will commence studying a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations) at CSU Bathurst campus.

Officially being an Australian citizen is such a big step which will help me in my studies and allows me to feel at home in my chosen country.”

Grieving ... or the ’art of grieving’ is something we humans are not well trained in. Where do we head to when grieving, death, loss of a loved one and/or change hits our lives - as it does?

Well, we can head to our Christian base where we believe that God will have another place for spirits to soar. A place free of suffering, pain ... a special place of peace where one will be reunited with loved ones.

Then there’s the grieving of those who believe that we return to the Universe - where there is freedom of suffering, pain ... peace.

Eastern thinking provides a different belief on life and death which is something new to Western thinking but also comforting during times of loss, grief ... all about life and the after-life.

Jacinta Tynan (The Sun Herald sundaylife January 27, 2019 writes about her experience at an ‘Embracing Change’ program at Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary in Thailand where 5 days is spent with a Life Enhancement mentor, a place without children, work, mobile phones ... no distractions.

Here is a test ... reading the above, did your eyes glaze over (instantly)? Your mind head somewhere else (instantly) to a place you have developed as a pattern - a place of avoidance, anger, lashing out at others or the blame game?

If you answer “yes” to all of the above and comfortable with a developed pattern ... you may not be interested in reading ahead.

Then again, philosophies from the East about life and death might offer some ‘different’ ways forward in grieving processes - and challenge the patterns of behaviour we tend to pick up in the Western world.

Here is your challenge ... Whilst I have attended many courses, retreats where East philosophy challenges West thinking - , wandered churches, religions, buddhism ... read a huge number of books about how to ‘move on’ in life from times of grief - how to get rid of that invisible hand grasping my tummy and the many tears, sleepless nights ... and just as many times of pulling a doona over my head and wishing the world away ... the Embracing Change program sounds like an interesting way forward.

Jacinta Tynan comments “Separation (of relationship, marriage) is right up there with the death of a loved one as the sort of major, life-altering calamity that brings people to their knees.” A lot of ‘we separated, divorced’ will agree.

The philosophy of the Thai Embracing Change process is - “If you’re going to suffer, suffer properly.”

Yikes! That sounds pretty challenging. Would n’t we Western worlders prefer to ‘avoid’ or ‘not think about’ our pain? Or, work harder - go out to an event, a holiday - somewhere a long way away from ‘our thoughts’? We are instead adept at the game of avoidance of pain and suffering.

But running keeps us stuck in spiralling patterns of despair and hopelessness.

The art is this - when pain arises, mild or otherwise, go within ‘self’. Pay attention to “escape routes” - those things we tend to do to ‘avoid’ reaching within - or unburdening anger on someone elses life - lashing out with a tirade of verbal or physical abuse.

If, instead we choose to adopt the Eastern model of grieving - we would instead return to ‘self’ and the importance of sitting with self, alone, and reaching into our heart, soul, spirit, mind where one can take on the responsibility for ending it (i.e. grief, pain).

Jacinta Tynan refers to author and master sufferer,Glennon Doyle who “has mined deep despair for personal elevation. “Pain knocks on everyone’s door. “If we are wise, we will greet it and say “Come in, sit down, and don’t leave until you’ve taught me what I need to know.”

Celebrating Banjo: 2019 Australian Poetry Festival to be held in our beloved poet΄s birthplace FEBRUARY IN ORANGE tends to be warm and slow, and the month we celebrate A.B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson’s birthday.

Now in its sixth year, the Banjo Paterson Australian Poetry Festival reminds us of our connection to one of Australia’s most iconic poets and his contribution to the literary and cultural heritage of our nation.

Running for eight days from 17th – 24th February 2019, this year’s festival aims to broaden its appeal with the introduction of a poetry brawl, more theatre and performance, and a festival dinner in Molong.

So who was Banjo and in 2019 is he still worthy of celebration?

Poet, ballad writer, solicitor, war correspondent, keen sportsman and horseman, Banjo Paterson was born on 17 February 1864, on ‘Narrambla’ in the Orange region of New South Wales. Here were the foundations of his love of the Australian landscape, and he grew up to become one of Australia’s literary legends.

“It’s fairly clear that Banjo’s country childhood had a strong influence on him, being considered the ‘bard of the bush’ for iconic poems such as ‘Waltzing Matilda’, ‘The Man From Snowy River’, ‘Clancy of the Overflow’, and more rollicking verses such as ‘Mulga Bill’s Bicycle’ and ‘The Geebung Polo Club’,” explains Murray Spicer, Festival Chairman.

But before these more famous poems came ‘El Mahdi to the Australian Troops, published in The Bulletin in February 1885, a piece that questioned Australia’s participation in the war in Sudan. A year later he submitted several more poems under the pseudonym ‘The Banjo’, a reference to a racehorse that the family had owned. These first poem,s while they showed promise and some talent, did not receive rave reviews from the publisher.

“What we recognise in Banjo is his ability to tell a great and captivating story. This is an ability that marks a compassionate writer and someone who was clearly connected to the Australian bush, its people and their lifestyle. This is what we look to when it comes to the festival and why we celebrate one of our most iconic locals, A.B ‘Banjo’ Paterson,” says Spicer.

“Our region has developed a reputation for its diverse, cool-climate wines and as a dream destination for foodies. The Banjo Paterson Australian Poetry Festival provides us with the additional charm of our culture and an umbrella under which we can gather everyone together to enjoy Australian history, song and prose in an enjoyable and convivial country atmosphere.”

Over 50’s State Cricket Championships Will be played over three days 10-12 Feb in Orange / Molong. 22 Teams from all over NSW will converge on the Central West. Some of these teams particularly the Sydney ones have a number of former Sheffield Shield players amongst their squads. There are two divisions 1st and 2nd grade. A local team named the Canobolas Cougars will compete in 1st grade, their first game on Sunday @ the REC 10am against last years champions Riverina. Farewell to popular Molong Ambulance Officer Andy Degabriel and his family (Nat, Ben, Ashton, Dominic, Elliott) have been popular members of the Molong and district community.

However, it is time for the family to move to Bathurst after Andy received news of his new promotion to the Bathurst Zone Office as Health Relationship Manager .

Arriving in Molong 8 years ago from Sydney ("we only planned to stay for 3 years") Paramedic trained Andy was promoted to the Molong Ambulance Station Officer role.

"Molong has been a great town to live, work and raise our family. Our three youngest boys Ashton, Dominic and Elliott were born here with Ben and Ashton starting their school years at St. Joseph's Primary School."

Andy was farewelled by his colleagues at a surprise dinner held at the Freemasons Hotel last Saturday evening.

The Molong and district community wish Andy, Nat and their sons a successful career and family rewarding move to Bathurst - and thank them for their fine efforts in helping to further build Molong of the future.

Droughts and flooding rains – the wide brown land runs true to form While Tasmania burns – in some parts of the Western Wilderness for the first time in thousands of years – the best monsoon trough in at least a generation settles over northern Queensland, inundating coastal areas and bringing long overdue rain to parts of the parched west.

It won’t be long before the cries go up again for more dams and the whiskery old call to divert the coastal northern rivers to bolster the Murray Darling system and “make the desert bloom”.

Both ideas have had their voiciferous and enthusiastic proponents, “immigration and irrigation”, and its bedfellow “populate or perish” were political slogans used by both sides of politics almost since Federation.

These days the “populate” idea seems to be a bit contentious; bad if you’re a politician speaking to an anti-anybody-who-doesn’t-looklike-us mob in the city, but good if you’re spruiking to a regional town fighting to retain business and people.

But water, or the lack thereof, steadfastly remains a bone of contention throughout the country; like it or not, no matter where we live in Australia, water rules our lives.

Recent events at Menindee and other areas in the vast Murray Darling Basin have brought water to the forefront of public attention and sparked more than a little concern in both cities and the bush.

Blame is being thrown in all directions and yet what has happened in recent months has been building for years – generations in fact.

One of our main problems in Australia is that every time there is a flood or drought, a mineral boom or a recession, politicians and the general public shrug their collective shoulders and rather than enter in a serious discussion, fall back on platitudes.

Politicians nod sympathetically and, to show how in touch they are with the bush, almost invariably quote Dorothea Mackellar’s and tell us how we live in a land “of droughts and flooding rains”, before going on to appoint a drought envoy or perhaps offer low-interest loans to farmers.

If the boom they‘ve been happily promoting suddenly evaporates, they’ll nod sagely and tell us that “we’ve always been a land of boom and bust” and we nod back and take it. Rarely is any serious consideration given to how we might do things better.

Molong is now under Stage 2 water restrictions and there is no real relief in sight. The Bureau of Meteorology has said that though an El Niño phase has not firmed, there is little prospect of really good rain in the foreseeable future.

On the other hand, regulations impose a size limit of 10,000L. Is this based on State “model regulations”?

I know it wouldn’t be nice to have a 120,000L Southern Cross galvanized tank looming over the garden, but couldn’t we be allowed larger tanks where space permits?

The Murray Darling Basin Plan has come under fire now that the plight of the Murray–Darling system has gained nationwide attention, and yet it began with the best of intentions.

The Committee of Concerned Scientists had been raising these issue for many years, but when governments were at last forced into acting, they were largely ignored as politics and vested interests watered down (or should that be silted up) its recommendations.

Graziers feel that they have been largely ignored, and they can present sound arguments to back up their claims, while the big irrigators say they are acting within the law and any problems are not their fault.

Meanwhile, communities are being slowly strangled, along with the waterways that support them.

Look at the small photograph above on the right. It was taken last week by a South Australian Member of Parliament and shows the country north of Bourke and around the State’s northern border.

Bourke is currently enduring Stage 4 water restrictions – the first time since the regime was introduced during the 1940s – and we must all be familiar by now with the plight of graziers and communities downstream.

But somehow there is still water available for irrigators. At the right of the photo you can see a watercourse that comes to an abrupt halt when it encounters a diversion channel.

There is no suggestion that the law is being broken, but it demonstrates how flawed the system is.

Surely it’s time to take seriously what is happening around us.

The situation in which we now find ourselves is dire and unless governments are willing to take the lead and face our problems head on, there will be no turning back.

The Bowls Brag started last Friday night @ 6 p.m. and true to form - another fantastic season of Friday night social bowls commenced.

What a fun night all had with plenty of laughter and a few good shots to brag about. Thanks once again to Bron and Perry for the yummy eats during the game ... and BBQ at the end.

Brag rights went to Phil McKenzie's team of braggers with Gosper Building team runners up. Meat Raffle won by Gossie (Ian).

Come along this Friday night, have fun watching one of the best 'comedy' sessions in town (seriously!) enjoy a cold drink and the delicious menu served in Annabelle's Bistro (eat-in or take-away).

Club Championship Singles Nominations for Molong Bowling Club's premier "A" grade championship singles is 23 February. The first round will be held on Saturday 2 March with games commencing at 12.00pm.

Members are urged to get their names on the list now.

Half a dozen players set off last week with T-Off at 8.30 a.m.

Thanks to the assistant greenkeeper sieving some sand to make 4 greens presentable to putt on.

All had a good time. Worth noting ...

The intimidating limb came into play on the 8th. The phantom walker didn't get anywhere near to par on the 8th this week.

The assistant greenkeeper had an offer for his cart of $2,000 and two cartons of

Resch's Real but he declined the offer as the cart part-owner was not there to agree to the sale.

One of the blokes did not finish due to battery charge problems.

Wrighty walked the whole course.

Hope to see more players out there next week.

By the way, subscriptions are due. Hope to get more members as this will help the club survive.

MOLONG FISHING CLUB A BIG Thank you to all who supported our Yabby Races on Australia Day at The Freemason’s Hotel a great day was had by all and the funds raised were donated to The Molong Hospital Auxillary to contribute to the improvement of the Palliative Care facility at our Hospital.

Thank you to all who helped out on the day it was a team effort and also a BIG Thank you to Dave and Kim for allowing us to conduct this day at The Freemason’s.

A reminder of the upcoming Fishing trip to Lake Illawarra from the 15-17th February.

Market overall was cheaper.

Light weight lambs were firm, while trade lambs were $9 to $14 cheaper, lambs to restockers were $7 cheaper also, and heavy lambs were dearer due to the lack of numbers. Merino were up to $4 dearer, while cross bred ewes were $3 to $5 cheaper, mutton worked out to be 390 to 415c/kg cwt.

Millthorpe, Country the Form Teams

The Oilsplus Senior Cricket resumed after a lengthy Xmas / New Year break with only four rounds of the regular competition remaining. After not winning their first game until round six of the Oilsplus Competition, Millthorpe are coming home with a wet sail and are now well in finals contention and a premership threat after disposing the hapless Molong Magpies on Saturday at Mllthorpe. In the other game Country remain undefeated disposing of the struggling Cudal.

The Molong Magpies travelled as a group on a luxury coach in an effort to boost morale and address their dreadful losing streak. One of their only two wins was early in the season against Millthorpe at Millthorpe so hopes were high despite on arrival Jacob Evans losing yet another toss. How many tosses can one person lose? Batting first all of Millthorpe’s top and middle order got away to starts but none would go on to record a big score as evidenced by, P Joyce 36, James Milner 26, Wil Oldham 23, Tim Low 21 Pete Heller 21 & M Grivas 20. Magpies did well to dismiss Millthorpe in the 38th over however a good total of 172 was recorded and difficult to chase with a lush, heavy outfield. Michael Thompson took five great catches for Magpies and Rod Jones wicket kept brilliantly to keep their total under 200. Tim Milne bowled with great venom taking 2 for 32. He was backed up by Jacob Evans 2/29, Ben Brown 2/31 and Kyle Worner 1/10. In reply Magpies got off to a bright start with gun overpaid players Jim Gavin 23 and Ben Brown 32 batting well. However Brown & Gavin ran very poorly between the wickets missing easy singles and when they did run resembled wounded Sloths barely running a single that most other batsmen would run three. Their pathetic, lethargic running conservatively cost Magpies 50 plus runs and eventually the game. Chain smoking super sub Brett Johnson strode to the crease in a cloud of smoke and put Brown and Gavin to shame running swiftly between the wickets scoring 31 and giving Magpies a slight chance of victory. However when Brett stopped

breathing and was carried off Magpies other batsman couldn’t continue the momentum and they were all out for 137 well short and their seventh loss in a row.

A Royal Commission has been sanctioned into the demise of the once mighty Molong Magpies. It will be headed by David Hobbs and Glen Meehan, those findings will be good reading. Stranded on 35 competition points 11 behind third placed Millthorpe on 46, season over Magpies. It seems like a lifetime ago when they won the competition 3 seasons straight, where has it all gone wrong? No doubt David and Glen will get to the bottom of it.

At the REC on another lush ground (is there a drought?) Batting first Cudal stumbled through their innings reaching only 125 all out in the 39th over. Captain Chris Douglas top scoring with 48, supported only by Scott Barrett with 26no.

Nigel Brazier who now wants the best all rounder trophy to go with every other trophy invented was unplayable taking 6 for 36 from 9 overs. In reply as expected Country easily accounted for the small total losing only 4 wickets. Trent Frazer 39 and Nigel Brazier 42no leading the way.

Scott Barrett topped off a good game for Cudal taking 2 for 31 from 9 overs. Jock Hough 1/12 and Chris Douglas 1/15 also tried hard. Cudal have the wobbles and look anything but a premiership threat and will need to bounce back quickly having lost their last 3 games. Luckily for them they play Magpies this week. Molong Bowlers had the bye.

Numbers decreased by 180 with agents yarding 1420. A resonable quality yarded with a good selection of cows, along with a few pens of well finished grown steers.

Cattle to the restockers again were limited.

Young cattle to the trade were 5c to 8c cheaper, feeder steers and heifers were 3c dearer. Young restocker cattle were 10c dearer. Cows were 2c to 5c cheaper over all types.
