Changes at Molong's HealthOne General Practice

Some changes at Molong HealthOne General Practice have welcomed fresh faces, introduced the recent celebration of a significant achievement, and have said a big farewell to one of the practice’s “veteran” GP’s.

Newest member of the team (since February 1st), is Sydney-based GP, Dr Brodie Hookins – who requested a rurally-based location to experience an urban to country change – brings both a strong enthusiasm and passion for all things women’s health.

Undertaking his first year in Molong of the four-year GP Registrar Program, Dr Hookins’ medical background commenced in obstetrics and gynaecology – a specialty branch of physiology and medicine surrounding pregnancy, childbirth, and antenatal care; including women’s reproductive and sexual health – two distinct fields of interest, has been described by Dr Hookins as being extremely fulfilling work.

Self Guided Walks around Molong map to return

A visitor targetted brochure, originally issued over 25 years ago, and popular with tourists and locals alike is to make a return.

The Rotary Club of Molong received $1723.00 as part of the Cabonne Community Asistance Grants program to reinvent the flyer which guides locals and visitors on a fascinating walk around town - with historical and other points of interst shown along the way.

There will be three walks - Bank St precinct; Bank St North to the Rec, and Bank St South

including the museum.

Other projects to receive grants were: Cudal Musical and Dramatic Society ($1,050 for a storage cupboard for sound equipment) .

Cumock Racquet Club ($850 for a fridge), Manildra and District Improvement Association ($5,494 for Manildra town plan), Manildra Showground manager ($3,299 for new mower) and Canowindra Museum and Historical Society ($577.50 for a new main entrance door).

Cabonne Council has virtually completed construction of a treated water reticulation system in Cumnock and Yeoval.

Residents can either opt-in or opt-out from connecting to the water supply but need to do it

by Friday. An initial letter was sent out in late 2020 asking residents to opt-in or opt-out of the on-property works that will be required to change over houses from their current water supply to the treated water supply.

If you opt-in, you are choosing to have potable

water connected from your meter to your house now using the Council contractor.

If you opt-out, the potable water will still be delivered to your meter, but if you wish to connect the potable water supply to your house in the future, you are choosing to do this at your own expense and with your own contractor.

With these works due to commence soon, Council is asking all residents to ensure they have returned their form to indicate their preference.

Time’s up to decide on town water

Molong Probus Club At our April meeting it was decided to have morning tea at 10.00am before the meeting which will now start at 10.30.

We also held our Car Trial which was enjoyed by all, although two cars got punctures on the way, not sure if it was due to the rough roads.

We finished the day with a delicious meal at the RSL Club where we checked our answers and found that Chris Brooks, Brigette Eden, Jan

Cornish and Jo Burgess were the winners.

We also helped Ruth and Ed Short celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary which was on that day.

Our trip to Nundle is getting closer. I hope everyone has got their money into the Treasurer.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 11th, 10am at the Bowling Club

Not always a good idea to ask permission later

There’s probably more than a few “unapproved structures” around the place.

Lean to’s, sheds, carports etc.

Most of them likely approvable if the owner bothered to submit a DA. But this one takes the cake.

An inspection of Borenore Dam last year by officers from NSW Water noted a dwelling had been constructed on the foreshore of the dam. The proximity of the building to the water supply dam was raised as an issue compromising the licensing of the dam as a water supply facility.

Council staff investigated the site and concluded that: • the well-established grounds and cottage were situated upon council owned land • the dwelling was constructed between April and July 2017 • the dwelling and a caravan appeared to be used as short-term accommodation • there is no council record of any approvals being issued for the construction of the dwelling One could hardly find a better

location than on the shores of what is a truly magnificent waterway.

The waterway and surrounding shores are idyllic - a magnificent area most ratepayers would love to swim in, run a boat, fish, camp, build a home.

Whilst discussions between Cabonne Council, water governing authorities, and the occupier are continuing ... one thing is for sure - it is unlikeley they will give the occupier authority to make their home on a community owned water supply catchment.

Got to admire the nerve though.

Human Rights Commission expresses ‘deep concerns’ at ban on returnees from India The Australian Human Rights Commission has declared the government’s travel ban on Australians returning from India, including criminal sanctions, “raises serious human rights concerns”.

In a strong statement at the weekend the commission said it held “deep concerns about these extraordinary new restrictions on Australians returning to Australia from India”.

It called on the government to show the measures were “not discriminatory” and were “the only suitable way of dealing with the threat to public health”.

Biosecurity Act. Health Minister Greg Hunt said it was “critical the integrity of the Australian public health and quarantine systems is protected and the number of COVID-19 cases in quarantine facilities is reduced to a manageable level”.

Foreign Minister Marise Payne said the temporary pause on returns from India under the Biosecurity Act was

– before the issue with returnees from India blew up – nearly six in ten people (59%) believed the federal government had done the right amount in helping Australians overseas return home. A third (33%) said the government had not done enough.

Last week the government stopped repatriation and commercial flights from India until at least May 15, and said indirect access was also blocked.

After it found there was a loophole through Doha, it took drastic action to close all gaps.

In a statement issued in the early hours of Saturday, the government said all travellers from India would be banned from entering Australia if they had been in that country within 14 days of their intended arrival date in Australia, and anyone who breached the provision could face a large fine, imprisonment for five years, or both.

The government is acting under the

She said in the month before the decision on Indian returnees 57% of the COVID positive cases in quarantine were in arrivals from India, up from 10% the month before that.

This was “placing a very, very significant burden on health and medical services in the states and territories and through the quarantine program.”

But she flatly denied this proved the government did not have confidence in the quarantine system, and rejected any suggestion of racism.

The chair of the senate COVID committee, Labor’s Katy Gallagher, said on Sunday she would be looking to schedule a hearing on the matter as soon as the committee could do so.

Meanwhile a poll done by the Lowy Institute and released on Monday found that in the second half of March

the world.

Australians were divided over how much freedom they should have to travel abroad.

The poll found 41% agreed that only Australians granted special exemptions should be allowed to leave, which is the current policy. But 40% said those who had been vaccinated should be allowed to leave. Only 18% believed all Australians should be free to travel.

People overwhelmingly (95%) said Australia had handled COVID well.

Letters No Anzac Day March I would like to express my disappointment and disgust with the Anzac Day commemorations here in Molong on Anzac Day. While the traditional Dawn Service was held, with a further service later in the day, the absence of a march was nothing less than abominable.

Then to say the reason for not having it was due to covid restrictions and distancing, was, and is, nothing less than an insult to the intelligence of the community, when just a couple of weeks prior a market was held on the Rec, where in excess of a thousand people gathered without any regard to distancing.

Anzac Day is not just a tradition most of us observe , it also a sign of respect and gratitude to all those who have fought, and are fighting ,for the liberty and lifestyle we enjoy today.

If a little community like Manildra, could hold a march, where children proudly marched wearing the medals of their fathers, grandfathers and other family members, surely a larger community such as Molong could have got off their bums and organised one here. To my way of thinking, it was nothing short of apathy at best, and laziness at worst.

And please don't play the "expense" card.

Many of our veterans paid a far higher price they paid with their lives. As the guest speaker at the Manildra march succinctly pointed out, we have no living WW1 Veterans left, very few WW2 vets left, and even the Vietnam vets are in their 70's and over.

Therefore it must be evident to everyone, that the children need to have these Anzac marches and services continued in their fullest traditions, so they can learn of the sacrifices of those who have gone before, and are the reason they are living in this country with the freedoms we have today, that those Veterans of all wars and Peace keeping tours deserve to be respected and honoured now and into the future.

Shame on you Molong R.S. L. Sub Branch, you have dropped the baton, and let our Veterans, your Community and the furure generations, down.

Colds and Flu When someone has a cold or the flu, the fluid from their nose, mouth and airways contains the infecting virus . Colds and flu spread when this infected fluid passed to someone-else (e.g. by touch, coughing, sneezing). Colds spread easily, especially between children who spend a lot of time together (e.g. at childcare or school). A cold is most easily spread (infectious) in the first one of two days after symptoms develop.

Signs and symptoms of a cold can include: - Runny nose - Blocked nose - Sore throat - Red, watery eyes - Sneezing - Cough - Fever - Headache - Feeling tired Flu (influenza) symptoms are like cold symptoms, but are usually more severe and may also include: - Fever and chills (swating and shivering) - Aching muscles and joints - Feeling weak - Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting - Diarrhoea Most cold and flu symptoms usually last less than 10 days. A cough may last longer.

How to protect yourself from influenza A ’flu injection’ will give protection against the flu. It is best to have it in autumn each year, as influenza is most coming from late autumn to early spring. The flu vaccinations is

especially recommended for people over 65 and their carers, adults with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, children under 5 years old and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The flu vaccination is available for free for these people through their local medical clinic. For people who do not meet these criteria, you can still receive your flu vaccination through your local pharmacy or your through your local doctor.

In addition, other ways to take care of yourself during the cold and flu season can include - Get plenty of rest and stay warm - Eat a healthy well balanced diet, including plenty of vegetables, fruit and wholgrain foods.

Changes at Molong's HealthOne General Practice (From page 1) “I love sharing in the emotional journey of pregnancy,” Dr Hookins stated. “[The journey] can be incredibly challenging, and guiding women through that process to feel supported is really important, so I find it super rewarding.”

A secondary area of interest was sparked by the area of mental health care, with Dr Hookins describing an attraction to how the brain processes information in regards to mental functioning.

Dr Hookins’ practice hours will run full-time each week, from Monday through to Friday.

Female GP, Dr Samantha Dingwall, commenced the second year GP Registrar Program at Molong HealthOne in 2019, and will obtain her GP Fellowship at the end of this year.

Though she enjoys general medicine from an eclectic standpoint – and the area of women’s health as well – Dr Dingwall‘s primary interests lie with regular, and residential aged care.

“I really enjoy aged care,” Dr Dingwall stated.

“I like going over to Prunus [Lodge] each week, and checking-in with the residents. It’s certainly rewarding work.”

With another interest being sparked in the area of Dermatology, Dr Dingwall doesn’t shy away from skin-related conditions either.

“The skin is a really interesting organ, and there is a lot to learn and discover in that area.”

Dr Dingwall’s practice hours are weekly, running from Tuesday, through to Friday.

Commencing at Molong HealthOne in March of 2019, Dr Christopher Touma is now accredited by the Australian Medical Council as a fully qualified General Practitioner – with his recent attainment marking the achievement of GP Fellowship.

With the addition of six months training in the area of Medical Information Technology, Dr Touma’s Pathway to Fellowship – through the completion of his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (Western Sydney University) – tallies an overall nine years of education and training in the field of health and medicine. A remarkable, and significant achievement.

Dr Touma’s primary area of interests lie in the area of Child and Adolescent Health, Development, and Wellbeing, describing the prevalence of enjoyment in monitoring these earlier stages in our lifetimes.

“I really like seeing kids and teenagers – seeing them growing throughout their own journeys,” Dr Touma stated.

“Teenagers are quite vulnerable, so I like to give them a space where they feel safe to share about what’s going on for them. It’s special work, and I find it really rewarding.”

On the flip side to this area of interest, Dr Touma also takes interest in Palliative Care – outlining the importance for patients and their families to feel secure during an already very

difficult, and complex stage in life.

“Family members of Palliative Care patients are already dealing with an extremely emotional and painful time,” said Dr Touma.

“Having the right care during those times makes a big difference. It helps patients and their families feel a sense of safety, and supports them in feeling as comfortable as possible under [very] distressing circumstances.”

Dr Touma’s practice hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and said he had “no plans on leaving” HealthOne at this stage.

Finally, the recent news of Dr Adrian Zambo’s departure for retirement seemed to slowly (yet surely) make it’s way around the township by traditional word-of-mouth.

Though he will remain – for the time being, it’s said – practicing from the Cudal clinic two days of the week, staff at Molong HealthOne have also said that it’s certainly felt like a “different” workplace without his presence of late. “[Dr Zambo] was a big character here, so you can absolutely tell that there’s something missing around the place lately,” said Sue Philpott, Medical Administration for HealthOne. “He was bubbly; funny; genuine; and quirky.

We’ll miss his practical jokes and pranks around this place, that’s for sure.”

Marilyn “Maz” Vaughan, HealthOne Practice Manager for the past six years, echoed administrative staff – with the addition of how Dr Zambo’s long-time patients will feel his absence around the practice.

“Yes, he certainly loved his little practical jokes,” said Maz. “Only recently, we had a group order for coffee with a $50 note ready to go. [Dr Zambo] switched out the note, and put it on my desk so I looked like the coffee cash thief!”, Maz laughed.

“So, oh yes – very funny indeed . . . “ “We do sincerely wish him all the best, and his patients really will miss him dearly,” she continued.

“The young GP’s we have here now are a great bunch, and we wish we could keep them forever too. [Albeit], Dr Zambo will be well and truly missed by so many here, and it’s never going to be quite the same without him.”

Long-time GP, Dr Robin Williams, will remain weekly at Molong HealthOne on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; the Yeoval clinic on a Tuesday; and business as usual with emergency on-call.

The Molong Express welcomes Dr Hookins to town, eagerly waits with Dr Dingwall for the exciting news at end of her year, sends a huge congratulations to Dr Touma for his significant achievement in attaining GP Fellowship, and, wishes Dr Zambo all the best, wherever his next ventures may take him.

Thank you to all staff at HealthOne for all that you do in supporting the individual health of Molong residents.

Shall we try again?

Yarn Bombing (see an example left of another location’s efforts) of Molong’s trees in Bank Street last year received the usual criticism from a small group of the local community (in fact, a tiny group) - but severe enough for the 2021 creators to ask the question “shall we try again - or take the idea to another town or village that will be more positive”. This idea is on the cards at this point of time.

The experience on ‘faceless book’ (facebook) - admittedly was one the organisers and creators do not wish to experience again.

Question we ask ourselves “shall we try again?” This is to Yarn Bomb or not?

On the other side of our thinking is that the majority of residents need to have their views listened to - given that Molong has a reputation for giving in to the squeaky wheels. Ignoring the ‘needs’ and values of the majority of residents.

Unfortunately, this majority are of ‘silence’ for whatever reasons. But in quiet corners they will give their views. These have been very positive and encouraging.

Then over to the success of Bank Street

traders in being able to coax in the thousands of highway travellers who many did so attracted by the Molong Yarn Bombing project. Photos were taken by people of all ages who loved the creativity and colour of Yarn Bombing. The project worked.

There have been many possible community building projects and tourist attraction ideas raised in Molong over the years. All of which could have played some kind of a role in the progress and further building the local community.

Most of these were stopped by the smaller group of residents, namely the squeaky wheel group ... and/or the ‘faceless facebook addicts ‘ and those who have the power to persuade Cabonne Council and the management team.

Shall we try Yarn Bombing again in Bank Street?

Here is the time for you to have your say before we progress through Cabonne Council where we are expecting a knock back due to the noise made by last year’s squeaky wheelers. We’ll try.

What’s it all about?

Mother’s Day is one traditional celebration that has survived the changing thoughts and judgments of women throughout time. Women have become confused - even concerned about the sisterhood thinking and the politics of some women’s groups of today.

Politics that have developed in Australia over time - in helping women to gain a voice - for some, a better life - for many others freedom. All a long way from “sugar and spice and all things nice” written in Golden Books and other girl stories - mostly representing all things pink, lace, pretty ribbons - knights in shining armour, engagement rings, weddings, babies, happily building homes and welcoming husbands home at night with children standing at attention dressed ready for bed.

A beautiful Pippa and her gorgeous mummy, Emily Ferguson, were spotted on their stroll last week before this mumma bear stopped in to grab some quality coffee fuel at Lime and Stone.

Pippa and mum were very excited on this particular day, as they were busting to meet with mum’s best friend arriving from Tassie, including the arrival of Pippa’s aunty, who had made travels from QLD’s Toowoomba for an extra special occasion on the weekend – Pippa’s first christening in Molong.

With Pippa having just turned one on Tuesday, 4th May, Em was given a brand new gift to hold for her very first Mother’s Day last year, with newborn Pippa less than one week old at the time.

If there’s something about the introduction to parenthood (shared by fellow mothers) that Em wasn’t prepared for – other than hearing about the clean household she’d never see again, or the messy,

matted hair, or the sleep-deprived tears – it’s the other-worldly connection that only the lived experience of being a first-time mum can truly describe.

Adam Bortz, Sydney-based business owner of Little Italy Coffee Roasters (LICR), has worked hard to establish his presence in the world of bean-roasting since 2012 – and the business has achieved major growth across NSW since.

Owned by brothers Adam and Guy Bortz, the family-run business currently operates two of the Bacino Bar establishments together – with both cafes located in the lavish suburbs of Curl Curl and Balgowlah, situated in Sydney’s Northern beaches.

Studying accounting after the completion of school, Adam discovered a rare opportunity to purchase the LICR business, steering him in a different direction from the anticipated corporate world. With the new business venture set to go full steam ahead, the Bortz brothers provided wholesale coffee beans to 15 Sydneybased cafes.

Shifting the focus to today – as they now stock 85 cafes and venues across NSW – LICR recently partnered with small-town Molong’s Lime and Stone cafe; a hub that has struck immense popularity with local residents since it’s opening in late September of 2020.

The Bortz brothers’ business ethics in this new partnership have been said to exceed the supply of high quality products, and have also nailed the aspects of an intensely supportive customer experience – to both the owners, and crew members of the local cafe.

Kate Redfern and Sally Brazier, owners of Lime and Stone in Molong, described their experience with LICR early-on in the piece last year, describing how these principals in business codes have resulted in the delivery of “above and beyond” service. “[Early on], we were having some troubles with operating our coffee machine,” Kate explained.

“After phoning Adam, he got straight in his car from North Sydney – and drove four hours just to help us get over those early hurdles. [Adam] basically appeared out of nowhere to make sure we knew we had his full support from the getgo.”

Supplying coffee beans (and various related products) to other rurally-based cafes like Lime and Stone, Adam has ensured in-person support remains a priority on the growing list of LICR’s additional partnerships in wholesale distribution – visiting fellow stockist cafes in Walgett, Narrabri, Merriwa, Wagga Wagga, and Dubbo.

With regular, bi-monthly appearances across these regional districts, the spread of this ontap style of rigorous support has had inland wholesalers provided with no shortage of gratitude.

“The family at Little Italy is exactly that, a family – and that's how they treat all [of] their customers,” stated online by Katie Murray, owner of Stone’s Throw cafe in Walgett.

“They will go out of their way to help you achieve your goals in business, whether they are coffee-related or otherwise… [We] will never change our coffee supplier.”

During Adam’s most recent visit to Molong last week – with young Max Hughes in tow, UK-born chef of Curl Curl’s Bacino Bar – the Lime and Stone crew members were guided through oneon-one barista training, which Adam essentially described as an overarching process of beneficial business operations.

“We can breakdown what can be a ‘scary’ barrier to being a barista, by providing training that gives those baristas better understanding of their coffee machine, how to correctly roast the beans, improve communication with their customers – and this can be a varying process in terms of providing that teaching to those different skill levels,” stated Adam.

“The more training we can provide to our wholesalers, means the more knowledge our customers have – and this empowers the staff members of those businesses.”

With Molong’s Lime and Stone owners having hands full since embarking on their new business venture, Adam’s goals with complimentary barista training and support extend to provide LICR’s wholesale customers to improve business functionality across the board.

“Kate and Sal can be comfortable in knowing that their staff have the knowledge, abilities, and skillset they need, which also allows them to focus on the other important sides of their business as well.”

Closing on a note of motivation, Adam described the impression that partnering with cafes in small townships had left on him – and how the sense of unity in these country towns has progressively impacted him as a businessowner in the process.

“I really appreciated my first week in Molong; seeing how supported the opening of the cafe was, and how the town gets behind things,” Adam said.

“The first time opening a cafe, you rely on people to be very forgiving. So, to come here and see what they’ve done to turn an empty space into what they’ve created, the amazing response of the local community, how quickly Lime and Stone have tackled business, and to see where they are now after six months – it’s very, very impressive.”

“Small towns are so resourceful, and to see it is very powerful,” Adam added.

“It always inspires me with a lot of different ideas on how I can lift the game back home in Sydney.”

Residents very happy with new pathway and parking provided by SPAR Molong The new pathway provided by SPAR Molong to help relieve the lack of parking spaces in Bank Street. The pathway links Bank Street with the rear carparking spaces, the caravan park, the Australia Post mail boxes and will help traders and business owners to access more customers.

Well done to SPAR Molong who have contributed well to relieve the lack of vehicle parking spaces and access issues in Bank Street. The rise in Molong’s popularity as a place to visit, enjoy a meal or coffee, shop and a place to live and work has contributed to the shortage. Thankfully, SPAR Molong has been able to look into the near future and addressed the current problems before the problem increases and Molong loses ground as an up and coming retail/shopping/business hub of the future for the future.

Wallas Juniors at Forbes

The Molong Magpies Wallas travelled to Forbes last weekend 2 May for their first gala day of the year. Molong has fielded teams in all grades being U6, U8 and U10 this year with the help of the Parkes Boars Walla Club. One of the good things that has come out of COVID19 was that the Gala Days forced CWRU to divide the region into two; though meaning smaller player /crowd numbers, but easier to manage for the host cubs. This week’s opponents were Forbes, Canowindra and Wellington, all of whom were well drilled despite their ages.

U6s played both games against Wellington (White & Red). Ably led by Gordon Bunting, the young team’s first experiences playing against an opposition were an eye opener and will form the basis of training moving forward.

U8s played against Canowindra 1 and Wellington White.

Both free following games provided the

players much needed match fitness and will look to develop their individual skills at the ruck and defence moving forward. Hunter Roberts again provided a try scoring display.

The U10s are a relatively ‘new’ team with the players a mix of existing club players and new to the sport. Playing against Forbes and Canowindra, the team showed their magpie pride and improved greatly by the end of game two.

Well done to Harry DeVries and Ollie Horkings who showed their leadership potential and lead from the front. Hats off to Scotta Williamson and Tony Elliott for assisting at late notice.

Thankyou again to Forbes for hosting the day and this week 9 May the club travels to the Orange City Gala Day at Pride Park.

Molong Cadets and Officers were joined by Broken Hill and Orana members for the annual Western Region Youth Camp. This year camp was held at the Lake Burrendong Sport & Recreation site. The staff’s overall comment was Cadets are welcome to come back anytime because you are great kids to work with.

The busy program included • Getting to know you activities including parachute games • Archery • Slip & slide • Canoeing • Low ropes • Bushcraft – damper making & boomerang throwing and making • Initiatives course – small team work challenges • Raft building at the pool, and free time in the pool • Survival skills–erecting a tent, cooking on a metho- stove • Mobile initiatives – ten pin bowl knockdown • Grass skiing • Star wars Galaxy game based on capturing the Leader of the opposing team.

Mice were around, but the Cadets managed to survive without too many dramas.

Expressions of Interest are invited from persons interested in a career opportunity as a casual employee for the roles of General Assistant/Farm Assistant.

The roles provide integral support within the School, including tasks relating to routine maintenance and upkeep of Departmental school and grounds, assisting with set-up and removal of furniture, equipment and activities, feeding of stock and animals and other duties as required by the Principal.

A copy of a current valid NSW Drivers Licence is required.

Not your usual boring old team photo Matt Steventon The Molong Magpies ventured out to Trangie to play the Trangie Tigers on Saturday with the majority of players travelling on the UPA bus. The mood was upbeat and the Molong boys knew what had to be done. The kick off was at 2pm and you wouldn’t know winter was around the corner with the sun blazing down creating a pleasant atmosphere for the spectators but the heat a little challenging for the players.

The Magpies came out swooping in

defence with a quick intercept try by Simon Dowling opening up the scoring in the first 5 minutes. Knowing how resilient the Tigers are Molong reset ready for the tussle to continue. Molong’s Josh Raines took possession off the kick off with the forwards protecting the ball and maintaining control to edge towards the Molong try line. With some great phase ball placing Molong within metres of the try line a quick crash ball off the back of the ruck sent Kyle Travis into three defenders to place the ball on the line for

a well earned try.

The reset came with the Josh Raines again taking the ball back on the charge allowing Zac White to kick for field position close to the Trangie line. Molong forced an error and earnt the scrum feed just off the Trangie line, The scrum was a beauty with a strong drive sending the forwards over for Kyle Travis to score his second for the day. Mark Toynton, Shaun Stuart, Ross Carey, Dean Butler, Riley White, Kyle Travis and Charlie Cooper kept the forwards scrum and rucks impenetrable.

The Tigers, following the kick off, responded by pilfering the ball and with a barrage of phases hit back with a try by their young forward pack. In return Molong’s reset and constant pressure resulted in another forced error by Trangie allowing Lachie Wells the Molong number 9 to take the ball from the back of the scrum and dart between 4 defenders to score beside the posts for a try before half time.

The first half was played with Trangie on the back foot however the second half proved a little more challenging with both teams fatigued due to the heat and fast pace the battle for field position

Molong Bulls Despite a fast finish the Bulls just went down to Peak Hill 28-26 at Peak Hill last Sunday.

Wingers Joe Reid and Jack Gavin backed up by Fullback Woody Mann did not fail to impress with safe hands and evasive action when placed under pressure from the Trangie Tigers back line following kicks for field position. Skipper Zac White’s and Jai Wilcox’s defence was impeccable with stinging tackles keeping the tigers playing a tight game not wanting to send the ball wide. Lachie Wells broke the line a number of times gaining valuable metres with one break giving Zac White space to go over the tryline for a try in the second half. The Trangie tigers hit back with two successive tries and in response molong sent the ball wide to Jai Wilcox who ran round the defence to score 5 minutes before full time to bring the full time score 42 -17. 3 points went to Lachie Wells, 2 points went to Isaac White and 1 point went to Dean Butler with Lachie Wells being awarded Players Player. Molong’s Next Game is at the Molong Rec against Canowindra at 2pm this Saturday.

Paul Glynn (Molong & surrounding districts) – 0428 168 638 CATTLE 4 MAY 2021 It was another very good quality yarding with good numbers of ideal feeders along with a good selection of trade cattle. There was a pretty good selection of grown steers and heifers and cows were well supplied with almost 400 yarded. A full field of buyers competed solidly in all sections.

Young cattle to the trade were up to 15c dearer with prime vealers selling from 450c to 514c/kg. Prime Steer yearling sold from 410c to 465c while the prime heifer yearlings sold from 382c to 478c/kg. Feeder steers were fully firm while the feeder heifers were 4c/kg cheaper.

Feeder steers sold from 408c to 486c while the feeder heifers sold from 380c to 470c/kg.

Young restocker cattle sold at similar rates with the young steers selling to 543c and the young heifers 495c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers were up to 12c dearer with the prime grown steers selling from 340c to 410c/kg. Prime grown heifers sold from 340c to 420c/kg. Cows were 6c dearer, with the 2 and 3 scores selling from 240c to 296c/ kg. Prime heavy weight cows sold from 285c to

317c to average 310c/kg. The restockers paid 318c and 320c/kg for Angus cows PTIC. Heavy bulls sold to 310c/kg.

SHEEP 81 April 2021 It was another good quality yarding with a good selection of heavy weight lambs along with odd pens of neat trade weights. There were only a couple of pens of Merino lambs yarded and there was a good line of well finished Merino hoggets. The usual field of buyers were in attendance and operating. rade lambs were firm to $5 dearer selling from $155 to $210 to average between 800c and 855c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs were firm to $7/head dearer. 24kg to 30kg lambs sold from $199 to $236 to average between 770c and 810c/kg cwt. The lambs over 30kg sold from $234 to $250/head to average 715c/ kg cwt. Merino lambs were $5 dearer with the trade weights selling from $150 to $169/head.

Restocker lambs were around firm selling from $88 to $200/head. Crossbred hoggets sold to $200 while Merino hoggets sold to $196/head.

It was a fair to good quality yarding of mutton where the most grades of sheep were up to $14/head dearer. Merino ewes sold from $88 to $190 while crossbred ewes sold from $144 to $220/head. Merino wethers sold from $147 to $210/head. Carcass prices ranged from 595c to 630c/kg cwt. The restockers were active on White Dorper ewes paying from $152 to $198 while a pen of woolly Merino ewes sold to the restockers for $127/head.

Ladies Last Monday 36 Vets came and played 18 holes of golf.

On Wednesday we enjoyed lunch at Be Tempted and on Thursday we held our Ladies tournament and welcomed players from Trundle, Yeoval, Cumnock, Manildra and Orange. It was a lovely day just perfect for playing golf. The winners received Spinners from Eden Decor and the runners up Bags from the Cane Shop - all of which were greatly received.

There is no Social Golf on this Saturday as the Disc Golf have a big weekend they are holding a Womens Global Tournament raising money for Breast Cancer.

Sunday Mixed We had nine players who braved the overcast conditions but still found it comfortable to play.

Two groups set out - and it was a sight to see three seniors on their trikes going flat out up the first fairway. Next week a speed limit could be imposed. The other group started on the sixth to avoid being run over by the trikes.

Bob was the winner and donated his voucher back to the club.

Next week is Mother’s Day so bring your Mum and your wife & kids out for a hit and a walk and enjoy good company with a BBQ after. Tee off 8.30-9.00.
