Level 4 water restrictions from today Molong dam at 40%

Molong Creek Dam is the primary supply of town water for Molong.

Molong Creek Dam has not experienced any significant inflows into the dam from Molong Creek since October 2018. This has resulted in all water utilised by Molong users not being replaced within the dam supply.

Cabonne Council has advised that the implementation of Level 4 Restrictions has come into effect with Molong Creek Dam reaching 40% capacity. The forward prediction for rainfall and inflows have placed Molong town water supply at risk of failure.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to meet the target of 200L/person/day of water usage by ensuring: • No watering of Lawns (New turf cannot be watered) • Watering systems for gardens only can be utilised if on a Micro spray system, drip or soaker hose is in use

(non-fixed and hand held are not permitted) • Full loads of washing are permitted only • Five minute showers or one bath per person daily Further measures that can be undertaken include: • Utilisation of timers on taps • Reusing of bath water on gardens • Turn taps off when brushing teeth • Wash vegetables in a plugged sink, not under running water • Mulch around plants • Fitting water efficient shower heads • Reporting to Council of any activity that may be occurring in contradiction to Level 4 Water Restrictions High usage business owners will be required to implement a Water Safety Action Plan (WSAP).

assist in undertaking this process.

'The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Doorknock was conducted over the last weekend.

Unfortunately we were very short of collectors in Molong this year and only a small part of the town was covered. The collection brought in $377.00. A huge thank you to the students from Molong Central School (and parents) who were able to help. They are to be commended for the way they presented themselves.

At our last meeting Cheryn Johnson was our guest speaker who inspired us to get active and keep ourselves mobile both in body and mind.

On track for better rail

Phil Donato tables 10,000 signature petition in NSW Parliament for improved rail services Phil Donato MP tabled on Tuesday an important petition in parliament for improved rail services for Orange and the broader Central West, to be debated in the Legislative Assembly next month.

The petition, supported by over 10,000 people who provided the necessary signatures, was originally created by Orange Rail Action Group, who along with Mr Donato, have been fighting strenuously for regional rail improvements.

“It is an honour to table the Orange Rail Action Group’s 10,000 signatures in NSW Parliament today,” Mr Donato said. “The whole community has rallied behind improving our rail services in Orange and the broader Central West.

“Now that we’ve reached the requisite number of signatures in order to table the petition for a debate, I am pleased to be able to take the next step to make this happen.”

Mr Donato explained there are three key objectives he will be outlining in regards to exactly what improvements are needed.

“I will be asking for an early morning express passenger train direct from Orange to Sydney and return. Currently, Bathurst has this important service but Orange does not, and it is very much needed.

“In addition, I am fighting for rail infrastructure upgrades of the Main Western Line to support fast passenger and freight

rail services, as well as early commissioning of the Regional Rail Fleet on the Main Western Line.”

Mr Donato added that rail in regional areas was not “up to par” with metropolitan areas, with less funding being allocated in country areas.

“Unfortunately, here in the bush we do not enjoy the same accessibility of rail based capabilities as to those who reside in metropolitan locations, let alone enjoy the level of expenditure spent on metropolitan projects as we have seen in the past year.

“The community justifiably expect some level of action by this National/Liberal Government. It’s vital for our wellbeing both socially and economically, and both factors need to be considered.”

Mr Donato thanked the Orange Rail Action Group and the community for their support, noting that there is much local enthusiasm for the rail improvements.

“I would like to thank the passionate members of the Orange Rail Action Group, who are as enthusiastic as I am to see these vital services provided to the Orange electorate.

“I look forward to debating the issue in the Legislative Assembly on June 20th to fight for what’s best for Orange and the broader Central West.”

The Orange community will have the opportunity to view and give feedback about architect’s plans to extend the Orange Regional Gallery.

The proposed expansion of the Orange Regional Gallery will double the building’s exhibition and storage space, creating a new triangular-shaped wing between the current building and Peisley Street.

This Orange Regional Gallery extension project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.

In August 2018, Orange Regional Gallery was granted $4,052,990 through the first round of the Regional Cultural Fund.

Under the agreement, the Gallery will extend the existing facility by 1070sqm incorporating a new gallery exhibition space, new storage and conservation areas and a theatrette. Construction will be completed by the end of 2020.

A community information session will be held at 5.30pm on Wednesday 29 May 2019 in the Council Chambers, Orange City Council.

The purpose of the meeting is to present the scope of the extension project, show initial

architectural options and invite community feedback. Architect Sam Marshall will be talking the community through the initial design options.

Residents can also offer feed-back and find out more about the design plans via the YourSay Orange website. More info will be available on the website following the face-to-face information session.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said he was delighted the project would receive $4 million worth of funding from the NSW Government’s Regional Cultural Fund.

“Following discussions with the community last year when the grant was announced, Sydney firm Architect Marshall has been engaged to take the concept to completion” CR Reg Kidd said. “ We’re now at the point where the latest preliminary plans can be unveiled and we can get some feedback from the community,” ”Our city’s cultural life is one of the main drawcards to bring more people to live and work in Orange.

The quality and diversity of businesses in Cabonne Shire will be showcased by the 2019 Cabonne Daroo Business Awards which were launched earlier this week.

Acknowledged as one of the major events on the regional business calendar and a model for business awards in rural Australia, the Daroos recognise the achievements and contributions of Cabonne businesses and their employees.

The coveted Best Business in Cabonne and 16 other category winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Manildra on Friday 1 November 2019. The number of Australians jumping online to shop continues to increase, with new research from Australia Post showing the total online spend in 2018 topped $27.5 billion, a 24 per cent increase for the year.

Australia Post today released its annual Inside Australian Online Shopping Report - an overview of Australia’s eCommerce market which provides key insights into who is shopping online, and what they’re buying.

It shows that Australians are embracing online shopping at an accelerated rate – with the online goods spend for 2018 reaching 10 per cent of total retail – two years faster than expected.

Australia Post General Manager for Parcels and Express Services, Ben Franzi, said the report also shows that 73 per cent of Australian households shopped online in 2018 – some 7.6 million Australian households.

“Australians are getting online more and more, and changing the face of shopping. With it, they are also expecting faster service and delivery – with next day deliveries growing by 31.7 per cent, with more than 62 per cent of these fashion related purchases.”

Mr Franzi also said the way Australians are shopping online is also changing, with smartphones increasingly being the medium of choice.

“Use of the smartphone to make online purchases increased 28 per cent for the year – to now make up more than 26 per cent of all purchases. It now sits comfortably alongside the laptop (32.8 per cent) and desktop (27.3 per cent), both of which fell for the year.”

Aussie Pie without meat?

Kristy Bland This Week: Kristy talks (and eats) apples

Welcome to Orange, home of the apple. This one gets me Every. Single. Time.

Now is the time to eat them at their prime and to help sort the good from the rotten, I’ve compiled this handy list. You’re most welcome.

Apple Wars: Pink Lady - The first time I cracked one of these sweet gals the feeling was more relief than remedial. Until the ripe age of 8, apples had been a lucky dip of lunchbox bruises and floury insides masked by waxy outsides. A triple threat is the elusive pink lady that is modestly blush, tangy and crisp to the tooth yet small enough to grab in your hand without feeling like you’re substituting popcorn for health on a marathon of both Grease films.

Fuji - I can only assume these apples were born on the slopes of Mount Fuji and crafted lovingly by generations of cool Japanese precision. These crunch balls are a delight of juice and texture. Definitely more killer than filler, Fuji have my vote for the underdog apple of the fruit bowl.

Golden Delicious - If you have to tell people you’re awesome, chances are it’s a far cry from the truth. Same goes for Mr Perfect, our High School relief teacher whose standard introduction to a class of teenage girls was “I believe you’ve been looking for me.” Gross. Without being too hard on these apples I do find the yellow colour confusing and texture a little spongy and better suited to a tart, schoolyard or otherwise.

Red Delicious – I can play this one too: Female Gorgeous.

Royal Gala – Admit one, a fancy dinner with Mary and Frederik. Or Harry and Meghan.

Definitely not William but maybe Kate and absolutely Elizabeth. These juice boxes have been deservedly the stars of many a feast for eons and have sweetness and sass enough to hold their own on the red carpet of New York’s Met Ball.

Granny Smith - The crisp orb named for success from inception, who could say no to Gran? Even better is when Grandmother Smith bakes herself into a pie or slices herself into a textural delight of salad. Someone also told me once that an apple wakes you up more than a coffee and while I get that it’s a healthy alternative, I’ll stand by my mid-morning ritual of a strong flat white, perhaps cleansed with a wedge of loving, faithful Gran. My dear friend Marika also insists I stress the tartness that is synonymous to a Granny Smith, biters beware.

What the ....!

No-way!” screamed the fans of a recent AFL match when one of its own Crows fans bit into his much anticipated meat pie to discover ... no meat! Whilst a vegetarian’s delight ...

Yikes! Yelled his taste buds as they missed the flavour of tender meat, herbs and spices and other key ingredients of the famous footy pie. Spreading the word around the major footy match AFL supporters were outraged “your post is just full of hot air” said one fan when he saw “the pie” (above).

“Looks like its full of Adelaide (Crows) chances of winning” said another - who was actually right!

Congratulations and well done to three concerned local residents, Juarna Barnard, Aaron Pearson and David Barnard who have come forward to start the Molong Crime Safety community group as part of Neighbourhood Watch. Story Front Page.

Working with Member for Orange, Phil Donato MP - this group of young residents and family members have started the group - because they care about the Molong community - and our safety.

Petitions have now been placed in the Molong Bakery, Newsagency, Express, Sweetness, Cabonne Council and other locations for concerned residents to sign. The petitions ask the Hon. Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly (NSW) to “consider and find in favour of committing to Permanent Police Officers to be allocated to the Town of Molong and the 24 hour Manning of the Molong Police Station”.

Please support this fantastic and needed initiative to ensure the Molong community remains a safe place to live, work, operate business, play sport, go to school and seek entertainment (day and night).

A meeting will be held during June (date to be advised) by the Molong Crime Safety community group to re-establish Neighbourhood Watch.

Karratha entrepreneur creates pies of all kinds - including ...

RoadKill Sausage?

Since the 1930’s one can only imagine how many Sydney taxi drivers have been asked to “head to the loo” (Woolloomooloo) by late night party-goers for one of Harry’s Cafe de Wheels scrumptious pies floaters.

Oozing with meaty goodness, the ‘Pie Floater’ started its life in Australia served from a simple caravan next to the Woolloomoloo naval dockyard by Harry Edwards.

Today, Harry would be pleased to see the result of young entrepreneurs expanding his initiative to 12 locations around NSW and one in Shenzhen, China.

Although these locations are a more glamo version of Harry’s original caravan (see above) the menu has expanded to include pies of all kinds of meats, fish, vegies etc. - but the oldtime Pie Floater of butter rich pastry surrounding tender morsels of meat served with mushy green peas a dollop of (potato) mash, floating in rich hot gravy remains a firm favourite.

Harry grew his small business by offering quality with the quickest service possible.

Maybe the pies were not that great? But hey! In the cold early hours of the morning after a night dancing,, boozing, partying ... Harry’s pies and warm coffee were considered to be ‘the best’!

Woolloomooloo lost Harry’s Cafe de Wheels when the young Harry Edwards enlisted for overseas action during World War II. Returning from service in 1945, he saw that Sydney hadn’t changed much and it was still impossible to get a good feed late at night. He reopened at ‘the loo’ but city council rules had been developed during his absence which is where ‘Cafe de Wheels’ really came about. Council insisted that mobile food caravans, like Harry’s, had to move a minimum of 12 inches a day. Harry dutifully obeyed with the name expanding to Harry’s Café de Wheels. Before the councils ruling, the caravan was known simply as ‘Harry’s.’

Some years ago, a former resident of Silver Street (Beth Reynolds) held a special birthday party for her neighbour Eric - although no-one really knew if it was his birthday or his age. Family, friends, townspeople gathered to help Eric celebrate what was thought to be his ‘first real birthday party’ with party balloons, gifts, party pies, streamers and a birthday cake.

Dressed in his best gear for the event, Eric politely welcomed each guest as they arrived, marvelling at the gifts he received. He sat in awe when it came time to unwrap his surprise packages ... unlike kids today Eric at some 70 years of age was not familiar with gifts specially wrapped in pretty colourful paper decorated with colourful ribbons.

Eric’s birthdate has now been confirmed as 7 June 1938 given to the Express by Shirley (nee Staines) now of Manildra - who found her late mother’s ‘birthday book’ where all of the Johnson family’s birthdates were recorded.

Shirley’s mother was the late Irene Staines, a member of two early Molong families - the Everingham and Johnson’s. Both families were loyal members of the Molong Salvation Army who once had a place of worship in Gidley Street.

One of my first stories in the Express was of the Johnson family, John, Eric, Valerie, and Faith written under the title “He aint heavy ... he’s my brother” (a 60’s/70’s song) with a photo of Eric pulling a heavy cart along with his very ill brother, John sitting in the cart surrounded by their shopping bags. Such was the

mateship shared between the two brothers who had spent a lifetime caring for each other and protecting each other.

When John died a year or so later, Eric was devastated.

He had lost his best mate and the one person in his life who loved him and cared for him in the old Cole house on the hill overlooking Euchareena Road and the township.

Eric still lives there today, by himself, surrounded by his ‘collection’ of all things unwanted by the townspeople.

After all, this was his job relating back to the days when with the family horse and red wooden cart (see above) Eric, John and their father, Walter Johnson kept Bank Street clean and tidy for the then Council.

Eric also worked on the family farm alongside his dad and John mainly growing food for their family (his parents, John, Eric, Valerie and Faith) and other people in the town during times of need. Eric and John would be seen pulling the plough with their horse - and often with their own bodies.

They were a good and respected family with Walter and Mrs Johnson in their Salvation Army uniforms, caps and hats, walking Bank Street on the weekends collecting donations to help others in need. The family opened their arms and hearts, pots of steaming warm soups to all people in need.

Eric learnt to live alone when John spent his last months in the Molong Hospital due to his illnesses which eventually he succumbed to. Before he passed, each week, John would be transported to the Commonwealth Bank to withdraw money for Eric. Delivered in his wheelchair,

Eric would then be seen wheeling John to Barnseys and other shops, over the bridge and then up the hill to their home where John would help Eric to do his ‘washing’ which he was not allowed to do by himself. The very reason Eric frequents Vinnies to buy more clean shirts.

Faith, who lives in East Molong looking after Valerie and cousin Stanley - cooks Eric’s meals of a night. Jodie’s team at Barnseys in Bank Street provide food during the day.

As fit as the proverbial ‘mallee bull’ townspeople will be surprised that Eric is turning 81 next week on 7 June 2019 given his strength to still walk miles and miles ... carrying loads on his back.

Fulfilling his younger ‘job’ in Molong - Eric is still seen around town today - picking up cans, bottles, and anything that householders and business owners no longer want. Carrying everything via an assortment of carts, prams, strollers ... locals observe Eric taking home everything from chairs, timber, tables, steel, machinery pieces etc. Storing each and all in roped off areas (according to category) around the front and backyard, inside and outside of where he lives.

As one relatively newcomer to the town recently commented as he observed Eric, late in the day, passing by carting ‘goods’ to his home ... “Molong will notice when Eric can’t keep the town tidy anymore!”

Happy Birthday to Eric ... we hope you have a wonderful day and receive a gift ... or two.

A small matter of water There was a revealing interview on ABC Radio’s RN Drive recently.

On Friday 24, May, presenter Patricia Karvelas spoke to James McTavish, the NSW Government’s Regional Town Water Supply Coordinator, about the deepening crisis facing towns throughout the State. Mr McTavish told those of us who don’t already know it that towns as far apart as Dubbo and Tenterfield, Bourke and Molong, are facing real problems as water supplies rapidly diminish and restrictions bite deeper.

He told listeners what some of the problems are – the drought figuring significantly – but unfortunately was a bit light on any long-term solutions. To be fair, he was fronting for a government and, generally speaking, state and federal governments have never been too keen on long-term planning that might affect their election prospects.

There was the usual mention of new dams and the sinking of bores to augment water supplies. Carting in water to some places was also mentioned, but as James McTavish pointed out, carting water to a place like Tenterfield would be inordinately expensive and at best a stopgap measure.

Mr McTavish also reminded listeners that not only farmers and rural towns are affected; industries in the regions are also at risk. He cited the case of Cobar, a mining town that relies on water pumped from the Bogan River at Nyngan. The mines are the largest user of water in the town and both the mines and township will face severe downturns if the supply is restricted.

Strawberry growers around Stanthorpe, a town in the “Granite Belt” just north of Tenterfield and over the Queensland border, are facing financial hardship as water becomes scarcer. During a recent interview, one grower said a solution was to grow the berries hydroponically under cover, a method that uses, and wastes, less water. However, he noted that present returns on the crop don’t justify the expense of such infrastructure. “People will pay $6 for a Big Mac,” he said, “but if the price of a punnet of strawberries goes above $3, they won’t buy them.”

Again, the bulk of the problem was laid at the feet of the drought. Of course, there is no denying that we are in drought, and for farmer and townie alike it is hard to see past the lack of rain when you are being forced to destock or your cherished garden is dying. But is it just the drought

and are there solutions, long-term ones?

Drought has our attention because it’s an obvious factor, but there are other things driving the water shortages. Sinking bores to augment water supplies may bring immediate, temporary relief, but in the long term will cause more problems. Most groundwater sources require flooding rivers and good rainfall to replenish them, and they have always been scarce and unreliable commodities in Australia, a continent with the world’s most erratic climate. Groundwater used now may take decades – perhaps centuries – to replenish even if used sparingly. Given the now irrefutable effects of the worsening climate crisis, we have no guarantees either way.

River systems everywhere are suffering badly from misuse, over-extraction and downright mismanagement over the decades and the result is now plain for all to see. What floods do occur are mostly sudden and violent, but long, dry spells are becoming more the norm. The “Bradfield Scheme”, a much-discredited plan to dam tropical rivers and divert their waters into the deserts, is again getting air time – as are proposals to tap “fossil aquifers” in the tropical north.

The lush, sub-tropical north of NSW was in drought until recently, and over the Top End, this year’s monsoon was almost a non-event; This at a time when Darwin authorities are expressing concern over the depletion of groundwater supplies in parts of the city. Our “southern” monsoon has never been as reliable as the rains further north, and even those are now becoming more erratic. In fact, there are fears that changes in Himalaya ice cover and other factors will eventually lead to

the failure of the northern monsoon, with catastrophic results for a sizeable chunk of the world’s population, not to mention the global economy and migratory pressures on other regions.

The pity is that the writing has been on the wall for decades, but those who tried to draw attention to it were at best ignored and at worst pilloried and ridiculed. If Australia – and the world – had begun action thirty years ago, then the task ahead would have been easier and the costs spread over a longer period, but that window has closed. Action is required now, and nations are going to have to cooperate as never before in human history. What can Australia do?

The irrigation industry obviously needs an overhaul, along with regulation of the crops grown. It his hard to argue a case for growing crops requiring vast amounts of water – crops such as almonds, wine grapes, cotton and rice – in marginal country on a continent that sits mainly in the Tropic Arid Zone. Yet we do, and in huge quantities. Sadly, the huge increases in plantings of almonds, and to a lesser extent, wine grapes, are, like the national obsession with coffee, in response to a created demand.

Large-scale irrigation is unsustainable in this country; dryland cropping and grazing are really the only viable alternatives. Aided by scientific research and a growing acceptance of Indigenous land-management techniques, Australia’s farmers and graziers have made an enormous contribution to alleviating, and in some cases almost reversing, the damage done in the past.

Governments at all levels also need to step up; farmers cannot be expected

to address the problems of overclearing and land degradation alone. Reforestation is of vital importance to future drought management strategies and to combat the climate crisis.

Remediation projects on an imaginative scale should be viewed as infrastructure projects that would employ many thousands of people. Rather than stigmatising such national efforts as “work for the dole” schemes, they should be promoted as works of national importance.

If we rely on our dryland farmers to produce exports and feed the nation, then insurance must be looked at. Insurance providers are already factoring in the climate crisis and governments must enter into dialogue to ensure our farmers are equitably treated. Funding to the CSIRO must be restored as a matter of national urgency, and the BOM must be adequately resourced.

And while we wring our hands over dwindling water resources and the plight of farmers, governments continue to issue exploration permits for coal-seam gas exploration and other extractive industries that disrupt or render unusable the water resources on which our agricultural and pastoral industries rely. Political parties praise our “clean green” agriculturalists, weep crocodile tears over the “bush battlers” and “pray for rain” at every photo opportunity, then chide groups such as the Knitting Nannas and Lock The Gate Alliance for trying to protect the resources on which agriculture depends.

The water from town treatment plants needs to be utilised. Adelaide’s “Green Belt” has long been sustained by recycled water, and this is something that should be repeated all over Australia – and not only in the capitals. Smaller centres could be assisted in establishing combined aquaculture and horticulture enterprises based on waste water.

Politicians are now carping over the costs of mitigating the climate crisis: “We must reduce emissions but not at the expense of the economy”, is often repeated. If we don’t act now, all else becomes irrelevant.

The crisis we are facing is far-reaching and real. Most politicians were silent about the costs of following the USA into Vietnam and Iraq – futile exercises of absolutely no benefit to anybody except perhaps the warlords who control the militaryindustrial complex – yet it seems that the climate crisis is of lesser importance than the whims of US Presidents.

minutes, but were only able to come away with a penalty to Brown from this period. These were the last points Molong scored as the 2018 premiers rallied and crossed for three tries of their own, assisted by a couple of late sin bins to Magpies players for repeated infringements in defence.

It was a rousing win after some of the battles against Geurie in recent years, and sees the two teams now joint leaders at the half way mark of the competition rounds.

Molong’s kicking game was particularly impressive finding plenty of space and the line when required, but also because the correct option to kick or run was taken nearly every time. The backs combined well with Simon Dowling, returning from a one week suspension, moving

into outside centre (he had been playing five eight for the earlier part of the season), whilst Max Pearce looks more assured at pivot in his second game there.

The forwards toiled well against a bigger outfit and were able to provide quick ball giving much needed momentum leading to plenty of gaps appearing.

Jordan Packham was the standout player, and along with his two tries, he received both the Komatsu Player’s Player and Freemason’s Best & Fairest awards, with hardworking second rower Mark Gavin gaining two points and Zac White and Woody Mann one each.

The second round commences with a home game against Wellington, who Molong lost to in the first round, this coming Saturday.

Lamb numbers decreased with agents yarding 6900 Sheep numbers decreased with agents yarding 3200 It was a good quality yarding, with a good selection of both trade and heavy weight lambs throughout. There were not the numbers though of ideal store lambs compared to previous sales.

Light weight lambs to the processors were $8 to $10 dearer, Trade lambs were $11 to $17 dearer to average from 850c to 865c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs were $20 dearer, Lambs to the restockers and feeders were $12 dearer, Hoggets sold to $200/head.

There were some outstanding merino sheep and crossbreds penned in a mostly good quality yarding of mutton. The light and medium weight sheep were firm to $7 dearer, while the heavy weight sheep were up to $25/head dearer, Carcase prices for the better sheep varied from

CTLX cattle market report 28/5/19

Agent’s yarded2150 Cattle numbers eased and the quality was mostly good. Cows and yearlings made up the bulk of the offering and there was a slight increase in weaner numbers. Grown steers were in short supply. The market sold to a mostly dearer trend.

Medium weight weaner steers returning to the paddock lifted 20c, Trade vealers were 10c stronger, Feeder steers were 20c to 30c stronger on average, Heavy trade yearlings were 9c to 11c dearer.

Grown steers sold to 302c, remaining firm, and heavy heifers reached 270c/kg. Cows were 20c to 25c stronger on 2 score cows, making from 156c to 186c and the heavy 3 and 4 score cows lifted 14c, receiving from 196c to 238c, averaging 225c/kg for the prime heavy weights.

Molong Bulls Molong Bulls travelled to Grenfell last Sunday to take on the Goannas in all 3 grades.

Youth League side were defeated 3224 in a hotly contested game and having one player sent-off didn't help the rest of his mates to battle on short for the remainder of the contest. Best & Fairest Steve Crosley 3; Cody Whiting 2; Jake Amberge 1 League Tag girls couldn't compete with a strong opposition and though doing their best they were no match for the Grenfell girls with the match outcome 36-Nil Grenfell way.

First Grade was a tough encounter with Grenfell fielding a very strong combination bolstered by a large pack of forwards. The scoreline went try for try throughout the whole game with the Bulls Player Coach

Rousing win to joint ladders leaders

Molong travelled to Geurie on Saturday to take on the under strength competition front runners.

Whilst Geurie were apparently missing eight players, the Magpies were also missing five regulars through injury, including Darcy Garlick, Knox Bunting, both Sharpes and Hugh Westcott. It was therefore going to be a test of depth for both teams ‌ and it was a battle that Molong won hands down.

to pretty much wrap up game the by the break.

The first was from centre Zac White just three minutes in, when he broke through from 30m out and went the distance.

A few minutes later an enormous kick from White got them deep into Wellington territory. Josh Peffer was then able to score after a line out to each team and then a few rucks following Molong’s throw.

Winter months are here and everyone is wrapped up inside. The Club has decided to modify trading hours and from Monday 3 June will open 4 days a week on: Wednesdays - from 1 pm (come down and enjoy the popular Midweek bowls) Fridays - from 4.30 pm to close.

Saturdays & Sundays - from 11 am to close.

Note that booked functions meetings, activities etc are not affected (e.g. Probus etc) and go ahead as normal.

MOLONG GOLF Last Wednesday 6 ladies enjoyed a social lunch at Hunky Chunky Pies. Our next lunch will be on Wednesday 26th at Sweetness Lolly shop.

On Sunday 3 of our golfers traveled to Cumnock for their Tournament. A good day was had by all and they all came back with a prize.

Golf next week will be on Wednesday 5th and we will be playing an 18 hole stableford 8.30 for 9.00 tee off. ************************ We had 5 players for an 18 Hole Par event last Sunday at the Royal Molong.

Thanks very much to the not so old man and his son from the sea who came out after returning the night before from the Gulf of Carpenteria. They did not have to fight off BIG sharks from taking their

catch. Congratulations to Allan Evans for coming out for a stretch as he had to retire after 9. Hope his body gets better.

The Ghost Walker put in a pretty good show as well but for the amount of golf Mark Oates has been playing lately won the par event. But was a little bit disappointed for not being able to get two pluses for a birdie.

Next Sunday: 18 Hole Stableford which due to lack of management might be played but there will be someone there to play 9 holes in the morning @ 9.30 a.m.
