Molong spends $23 million in Orange But Orange only spends $1.3 million in Molong What are the opportunities? Endless! We declare at the Express. With last week's release of spending figures in Orange by surrounding towns (see opposite) we figure there has to be opportunities - positive ones at that - to seek a return on the $23 million Molong spenders invest in Orange via food and retail shopping, health care, buying everything from cars, farm machinery, new furnishings, entertainment, supporting clubs, pubs, cafes, restaurants ... even paying dreaded parking fines. This is where 'smart' thinking comes into play for Molong.
Undoubtedly we are in the 'box seat' to think outside the square ... and see ourselves as a community of business investors who are investing heavily in the growth and prosperity of Orange. Indeed, if we think 'smarter' as a community and put our investor hats on ... we should be seeking a return on our $23 million investment. It is a significant investment. As a community of 'smart' thinkers ... let's work together to figure this one out. Endless Ideas ... Endless Opportunities ... Creative thinkers needed ... Call us @ the Express
At an Orange City Council business & retail forum last Thursday it was revealed that shoppers from towns surrounding Orange spent $182.1 million in Orange in the year to August while Orange residents spent just $38.1 million in return. Molong residents spent $23.7 million and received $1.3 million, Blayney residents spent $14.4 million and received $1.7 million and Millthorpe residents spent $18.7 million and received $1.3 million. Spendmapp gathered the data by tracking bank transactions - and accounted for cash transactions and expenditure on rates etc. The data was collated by Spendmapp by tracking bank transactions - results were scaled to account for cash transactions and expenditure on rates etc. were not included. While such an imbalance must be expected given the range of goods and services offered in Orange and not available elsewhere just think of the opportunities.....
Pool Lane Ropes action expected Cabonnne Council is to work proactively with the Molong Pool contract manager to address criticism of the permanent three lane ropes placed in the middle of the pool. It is expected that modifications will be made in a bid to address both the needs af all pool users and OH&S best practice. Proposals include only one lane (at the side) with the ability to add a lane if the number of lap swimmers demand it at any point. The Express understands that several users have written to Cabonne Council and at the council meeting on Tuesday Cr Paul Mullins raised the matter in Questions on Notice. Cr Mullins stated that he wished to bring the attention of the council to continued mounting criticism he had received including: • Chiefly, that they are installed permanently (rather than, say, during times reserved for lap swimming) and that they are right in the middle of the pool. • The permanent ropes mitigate against those who wish to swim or walk across the pool at a depth to suit them (say for exercise,
rehabilitation or therapy or learning to swim.) Often during the day so few swimmers were about that "walkers" easily respected right of way for lap swimmers. The ropes might also mitigate against those doing aqua exercises where circular and other routines wish to be employed. Mr Mullins stated that there was an apprehension by some (probably unfounded) that if you are not lane swimming then you can’t go in the lanes in the middle of the pool. While OH&S issues have been mentioned, many pool users found the sudden need to employ three permanent ropes in the middle of a relatively small pool, after many decades, strange. It had been reported that youth are increasingly swimming at the old Molong Weir (15 reported on one occasion at the weekend) in favour of the pool. This will likely increase during the school holidays. The trial of early pool opening times will also be reviewed and input from users considered when adjusting opening times.
