In his letter Mayor Beatty says: "The Molong CBD Activation Project aims to develop Molong as a key regional destination, leveraging off the town’s unique characteristics and offerings, to diversify the local economy and grow the town as a local business

and tourism hub.

The Molong CBD Activation Project includes removing old trees, new street plantings, new and updated street furniture, new pedestrian safe crossing points, lighting, and new open spaces.

This is a Project that Council has been working with the Molong community over a number of years to deliver – and we finally have the backing and support of both the Federal and NSW State Governments to undertake the project."

Molong Rural Fire Service receives new vehicles - but more hands needed before Summer

A sophisticated, country, and stylish Molong for the future

OPEN DAY SATURDAY 30 JULY - 3 - 4 pm Molong RFS / SES depot cnr Riddell & King Streets With the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) predicting potential grim bushfire summer this year it has set about equipping its volunteer forces with up to date equipment.

The Molong RFS recently took delivery of two new fire fighting vehicles, with one able to attack village or town fires with its pumps - as well as the bush timber and grass.

Equipment is one thing - people to use it to fight fires is another.

Molong, like all other Rural Fire Service units, is looking to recruit new hands.

The Molong RFS will be open on this Saturday (30 July) from 3 till 4 pm for you to look over the new equipment, meet the volunteers and find out what is involved.

The NSW RFS is the world’s

largest volunteer fire service, made up of more than 70,000 dedicated volunteers right across NSW. NSW RFS volunteers are ready to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round, attending a range of incidents from bush and grass fires to house and structure fires, road accidents and assisting at other events like floods, storms and searches.

Volunteering with the NSW RFS offers you the opportunity to learn new and valuable skills that will not only assist you in your voluntary role but in day to day life and even your workplace. It is also an opportunity to meet people you wouldn't normally meet. For many of our members, it's also about being part of a wonderful tradition and an organisation with a very proud history.

The Molong CBD Activation Project aims to develop Molong as a key regional destination, leveraging off the town’s unique characteristics and offerings, to diversify the local economy and grow the town as a local business and tourism hub.

The Molong CBD Activation Project includes removing old trees, new street plantings, new and updated street furniture, new pedestrian safe crossing points, lighting, and new open spaces.

This is a Project that Council has been working with the Molong community over a number of years to deliver – and we finally have the backing and support of both the Federal and NSW State Governments to undertake the project.

As Molong locals will already appreciate, the appeal of the Molong Town Centre is its rich architectural heritage. Many of the buildings in Bank Street date back to the 1870s and help tell the incredibly interesting story of early settlement in the area.

Combined with easy-to-negotiate roads, footpaths, parking, and outstanding commercial offerings, Council knows that the Molong Town Centre has potential to serve a much larger customer base. There was also a call from locals and the business community to Council to do more to attract people to Molong.

The goal of the Molong CBD Activation Project will improve the attraction, amenities, and ease of access throughout Molong Town Centre, whilst ensuring that the project reflects the community’s aspirations of a sophisticated, country, and stylish Molong.

This will not only benefit existing residents and businesses, but support new and emerging markets – making the Project a worthwhile investment for Council and the wider community, as has been evidenced by the financial support of the Government.

Council is not blind to the concerns of both the local community and businesses alike; particularly in relation to the plan to remove the current Liquid Amber Trees, and install Japanese Elm trees down the middle of the main street.

In late June 2022, myself, the Deputy Mayor, General Manager, and Deputy General Manager for Infrastructure made a trip to Inverell.

In 2014, Inverell Shire Council – with a population of more than 16,000 - undertook a project to rejuvenate their town centre, a project very similar to the Molong CBD Activation Project.

As well as making the main street more attractive, more functional, and more profitable for local businesses, the plan sought to replace the old London Plane Trees that had been inappropriately planted along their main street, Otho Street.

The main goals of the Inverell project were to repair damaged infrastructure, replace trees to provide a functional and aesthetically pleasing town centre, and to improve road safety and access for pedestrians.

The design allowed for construction of permeable and trafficable pavement over buried modules filled with soil, plus strategic placement of open planting beds for their new Pin Oak trees. The design also meant that there was a continuous refuge for pedestrians in the centre of the street.

The Mayor of Inverell, Paul Harmon, was very open in sharing that the masterplan for the street upgrade was controversial.

The community were particularly worried about the impacts relating to parking and traffic manoeuvrability.

Otho Street in Inverell is slightly wider than Bank Street, however the tree plantings and refuge is larger than what is being proposed for the Molong Project. This means that the parking and manoeuvrability for vehicles is nearly identical as what is proposed for Molong.

Despite the Inverell community’s initial concerns, construction ran smoothly throughout the project. And, since opening in May 2018, the results of the project speak for themselves.

Since the renewal, the streets are buzzing, and local businesses are thriving with more people choosing to visit Inverell and enjoy the lively Inverell atmosphere.

By all accounts, the Otho Street project in Inverell is an outstanding success.

We now have an opportunity to do the same for the Molong CBD. We know that there will be a number of challenges as we undertake this project, and this will require a great deal of patience and understanding from both locals and businesses.

Council is committed to continuing communications as the project proceeds closer to construction.

There is a classic line from the movie, ‘Field of Dreams’ which I am sure you are all familiar with – “If you build it, they will come.”

This philosophy is one of the driving factors behind the plan to activate the Molong CBD. The Molong CBD Activation Project gives us an opportunity to build something great for the future of Molong. And – because those that live here already know how great Molong is – we know that when we build it, they WILL come!

Council will continue to provide updates to the community as the project continues to progress. These are some of the questions that have been asked, but are by no means a comprehensive list of all questions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Is Bank Street too narrow to have trees up the middle?

Will the centre trees make it harder for people to park?

Why are we upgrading the Molong CBD? Isn’t this project a waste of money?

No – Bank Street is not too narrow.

Any changes to parking will mean that parking practices will need to be adjusted.

Following extensive community consultation throughout the development of both a Molong Main Street Issues Paper, and a Molong Town Centre Plan, Council was successful is securing over $2M in grant funding from both the State and Federal Government to activate the Molong CBD.

The project has been designed to fit within the dimensions of Bank Street. The dimensions of Bank Street (from gutter to gutter) show that the design is compliant with the Australian Standards. The width of Bank Street, in combination with 45-degree marked angled parking, meet the Australian Standards ensuring that the project is safe.

Council have also undertaken testing to ensure that the design will meet the requirements of users (including motorists and pedestrians), and ensuring that parking is accessible for a range of vehicle types.

How long will the street be closed, and businesses disrupted?

The proposed parking spaces will be wider than the minimum, and line markings will be added to the road to assist people to adjust to the 45-degree angled parking. The removal of the existing trees will also result in additional carparks, not less.

All drivers need to drive to road conditions, to ensure safety of themselves and ALL road users.

Will the median of trees in the centre of the street cause safety and crossing issues for aged, disabled, and other pedestrians?

It is impossible to do any main street upgrade or CBD activation without disruption.

Ensuring equitable and safe access and shared use between pedestrians and vehicles is a priority for Council.

Council is developing a project plan to minimise disruption to businesses, pedestrians, and traffic that will ensure footpaths remain open at all times, and therefore access to all businesses will be maintained.

The project has been designed to Australian standards and was selected because it incorporates enhanced access and shared use between vehicles and pedestrians.

During construction, it is planned that half a block of the main street will have one lane of the traffic closed at any one time under traffic control measures. There will be alternate routes available to through traffic.

The final timing of the works is currently being planned. Council will be commencing the works at the upper block to the west of Gidley Street. This will enable Council to be able to give most accurate estimations of timing to the more intense business area in the “bottom block”, with businesses and community advised as the project plan continues to develop, and prior to any scheduled road closures.

HOW DID WE GET HERE? FEBRUARY 2020 MOLONG TOWN ISSUES PAPER Presented to Council meeting in February 2020 and subsequently placed on public exhibition for feedback. Molong Town Centre Plan developed.

Whilst the term “median” is used, the median is at the same level as the road which ensures no trip hazards. This flat median, combined with the street trees, will enable a safer weigh point for a pedestrian to gain refuge from traffic if needed.

There will also be an additional designated “pedestrian crossing point” to the west of the supermarket driveway to increase pedestrian safety.

The delineation of the pavers, along with the trees, will result in drivers slowing and recognising Bank Street as a shared area.

OCTOBER 2020 CONCEPT DESIGN CONSULTATION Further community consultation was carried out in Molong at the kiosk on the main street, and at the RSL when the Main Street Concept Designs were developed and put on public exhibition.

The key outcomes of the project are: Enabling existing and new business growth particularly in the retail and tourism sectors Increased accessibility and walkability Place-making: improved business precinct amenity, improved cycling and pedestrian environments, and health benefits from active movement, and reduced noise and dust Wider economic outcomes for Cabonne businesses through providing goods and services to new businesses and their employees.

As part of the grant application, Council was required to provide a sound business case for assessment, evidence of community/business support, and an outline of the complete scope of works and costs proposed.

The Grant funding was successful based on this information – including the street trees - and Council is required to regularly report to both the State and Federal Governments as the project is delivered.

Whilst minor changes to the scope of works are permitted, large changes are not - and therefore if the project is not delivered in line with the funding agreement, funding may be withdrawn.

Will delivery vehicles be able to park and make deliveries to local businesses?

Yes – delivery vehicles will continue to be able to access Bank Street with vehicles able to park either in the 45 degree angled parking, or between tree plantings in the street centre.

In planning the location of tree plantings, Council considered businesses heavy vehicle requirements, however further consultation with business owners will continue as the project progresses.

OCTOBER 2021 GRANT FUNDING SUCCESSFUL! Council was successful in receiving over $2million in funding from both the NSW State Government and the Federal Government for the activation of the Molong CBD.

Remembering: Margaret Lee Bruce Horsfield delivered the following eulogy for his big sister Margy.

“Hello and Welcome, Thank you for coming today to remember and celebrate our relationship with Margy.

Marg, possessed an uncommon ability to connect with people, to hold conversation and to appreciate and love.

She had a particular empathy and sympathy for less fortunate people and a great admiration for the untiring efforts of the carers of those born with special needs.

Margy was a great story teller. Every day she had a story to tell - but what was special, her stories were never trivial. Stories of her childhood memories, of relationships and events made even more interesting by her clear good memory and sharp mind.

There were humorous stories such as the time as a child she and her friend Janice Hyland were tasked by Mrs Hyland to take a fresh sponge cake to a neighbour down the street, On the way they dropped the beautifully cooked sponge that ended up upside down on the gravel.

Being resourceful, with a sense of "all is not lost" they panel-beated the cake and cream topping back into shape - removed rocks and sand and delivered the cake.

I never quite locked onto what Mrs Collins thought of the gritty cake. Marg had a lot of hilarious stories however she never tried to draw hilarity from others if there was a victim involved or where another person would suffer hurt or embarassment.

When I told Marg jokes she would empathise - “Oh, the poor fellow”! I would respond, “Marg! Its just a joke”.

But Marg would be taken by “the poor fellow”! And, how “the poor fellow” got on after that. I nearly felt obliged to make up another story so that there would be a happy ending!

Marg had an absolute love and kindness for animals and saw the beauty and wonder of all, including insects, spiders, ants and how they fitted into the ecology.

However, the mouse plague drove her mad. She would tell me in the morning “I caught 3 mice this morning in the laundry”.

“WOW” I’d respond .. “I’ve already caught heaps (on the farm) with 2000 to go and that’s just today”. I knew she felt sorry for the mice - in fact any she found alive inside her house - she would pick up and let go outside!

Recently, I told her about the foxes around the farm that were killing lambs. “Oh! The poor lambs” she’d say.

Then I told her I shot a fox. “Oh! The poor fox” she would say.” I was just pleased the fox was shot and not just shot at - which is often the case.

Marg, had a wide range of interests in science and discoveries. She watched TV - But never “rubbish” as she would say.

Marg liked programs of information and wonder. Sir David Attenborough’s wonderful docoumentaries she never missed. Nor “The Incredible Journey” on Sunday mornings, nor “The Yorkshire Vet”, “The Histories of Railways” or anything about the evolution of flight; stories of heroic individuals or explorers, early settlers not forgetting stories of God and the giving of miracles.

She loved discussing physics, atoms, space, genetics,

electro-magnetic energy.

“While there is sadness and sense of great loss for our family Marg saw and believed in the divine and Marg’s many friends - we also share a sense of gratitude and purpose of God. In some conversations gratefulness for her life”. and debate - she would simply hold up her hand, clench her fingers “That didn’t just happen”.

She loved inspirational music. Music and songs of worship. She drew strength from uplifting music of all kinds. “Not the rubbish they scream today” she would say!. Marg understood the significance of world leading families and organizations, their power and influence for good or bad. Their greed and/or the good they could do or fail to do.

Recently we were discussing the war in Ukraine and Marg became lost to find words for Putin and his Generals. I suggested they were hooligans. “Yes!” Marg agreed “They’re hooligans all right! Oh Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear!”

Marg, believed in the Westminster system of Government to ensure a fair go and protect the rights of the individual. She loved British humour, followed the Royal family, admired the Queen, The Duke, Charles and others, but had plenty to say about the duds.

Margy possessed some good key fundamental values from which she never wavered. However, she had a lifelong phobia about germs and infections, which somewhat developed into distrust and suspicions about the medical profession and big Pharma, so her remedies were simple. Cuts and abrasions = Mercurochrome and Peroxide. Sometimes I couldn’t tell what was wound and what was Mercurochrome - but it looked pretty serious.

If I scratched or cut myself at Marg’s delivering wood or doing chores I came home a blood coloured mess.

Barb “What happened to you?” “Nothing - Marg had the Mercurochrome swab out again”.

Sore throat: salt and water gargles.

Marg locked herself down with the arrival of COVID so her contact was via phone. She would ring in the morning at 7.45 and time ceased to matter. “Marg, I have to go” I’d say. “Let me talk to Barb” she would say.

Barb has been wonderful in her support having long conversations, laced with logic, making sure finances were in order, accounts paid etc - Everyday Barb would say to Marg, “ now make sure you do something nice for yourself today”. Barb has eaten a lot of cold eggs on toast and drank cold coffee to the point she now prefers it that way.

Marg worked hard in her lifetime, was frugal and saved

At the Molong and District Garden Club Annual luncheon in July, seventy members and guests enjoyed a delicious luncheon catered for by our local CWA ladies.

Our guest of honour Judy Horton, renowned horticulturalist, spoke about past and future Australian gardens.

The audience were enthralled as Judy spoke of 200 years of gardening in Australia and the history of the Yates origins in Manchester to New Zealand and Australia.

Two beautifully arranged raffle baskets containing plants, gardening equipment and goodies were created by two of our members and were presented to the lucky prize winners.

All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the day. Comments such as “I could have listened to Judy for hours” were said and heard by many.

Bruce Horsfield remembers his delightful sister, Margaret (Margy) Lee who passed away on 1 July 2022 at her Molong home.

Marg followed the beliefs of Christian Science faith.

Saw, experienced, and believed in miracles of healing.

She believed in good over evil, but only if we are vigilant and chart the course.

I think we can all draw lessons from Marg’s life. I certainly have. I will remember Marg with love, honour and respect.

And today our close family extends our heartfelt ‘thankyou’ to all attending for taking the time to celebrate and remember Marg’s life.” Bruce Horsfield

"Beef-up foot and mouth disease measures" Gee With Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) detected in Bali, TimorLeste and also Papua New Guinea, the threat of the disease entering Australia isvery real and very close.

If an outbreak were to occur in our country, the estimated economic impact would be $80 billion.

A FMD outbreak in Australia would lead to wide-spread livestock culling amongst sheep, cattle, pig, goat and deer producers. Farmers would lose their livelihoods. The impacts on mental health would be enormous, not to mention the hit that regional tourism would take. Our export markets would evaporate. To say our local producers are worried would be a huge understatement.

With international travel now ramping up, the risk of FMD entering Australia is rising fast. PreCOVID, over 1.2 million Australians visited Bali every year. Currently 5,500 Indonesians travel to Australia each month. All it takes is one of these travellers to bring FMD into our country and a nightmare scenario unfolds.

So far the Australian Government’s response has been underwhelming.

When FMD first reached Bali, it was announced that extra sniffer dogs would be deployed in Cairns and in Darwin. These dogs can’t actually detect FMD. More recently, the Federal Agriculture Minster has announced an extra $14 million. Of that funding $5 million is to be spent on assisting overseas countries

with their biosecurity controls and the remainder will be spent on 18 additional biosecurity officers in Australia and more detector dogs.

While the additional funding and staff is a step in the right direction, the response does not go far enough.

All travellers entering Australia from Indonesia should have their footwear disinfected. That includes footwear they are wearing and footwear in their luggage. The reason the Federal Government has given for not implementing this biosecurity measure is that for people wearing thongs, the disinfectant may irritate their feet.

To me, that just sounds like an excuse for not wanting to do it. For people wearing thongs, they could simply take them off, have them disinfected and washed, and then have their thongs returned.

The Federal Government should also consider implementing a travel ban between affected parts of Indonesia and Australia. The reason given for not implementing this biosecurity measure is that the Federal Government does not want to offend Indonesia. Indonesia is a very good friend of Australia but we saw during COVID that they way to stop disease spreading across borders is to act quickly and decisively. A temporary ban on travel while Indonesia boosts it’s livestock vaccination numbers would be a small price to pay to preserve our key agricultural industries.

Hannah spreads her wings

One of Molong's special young ladies is Hannah Betts who was born and raised, schooled and employed in Molong for her first 20 years.

This week - Hannah headed off, out of town, for what will be the first leg of her new journey in life.

Noticeably, when the Express interviewed one of its favourites - Hannah was experiencing the mix of emotions that most have experienced when leaving their town, and home for the first time.Happiness, excitement, mixed with a tinge of sadness and uncertainty as the departure date came closer. "I'm really excited about the adventure coming up" said Hannah who is heading to Bingara to her close friends, the Brazier family and Hamish, Digby and Hunter who adore Hannah. "They are my life-long friends" said Hannah who will be working on the farm and helping with the three boys aged 11, 9 and 7.

The daughter of Kevin and Mary-Ellen, sister of George and grandaughter of Margaret Betts - Hannah was born, raised, schooled and employed in Molong. At one time, the energetic great young worker had a number of part-time jobs (at the same time) doing everything from bar work, farm work, baby sitting , cleaning and more. Hannah has never feared hardwork - coming from a family of farmers - she knows the value of hard yakka to get ahead in life.

Awarded the 2020 Youth of the Year

Molong Australian Day Awards - Hannah spoke about the need for local youth to hop in and contribute to the greater good of their town/village. She has led by example.

Hannah has helped at the local Pony Club, played Hockey, coached hockey and Cabonne Junior Roos Under 7, completed her Diploma of Early Learning through the Molong Early Learning Centre, and lately, had become a 'Uber' 'driver to help locals.

Now it is Hannah's time to head off on a new journey - one of new experiences - new learnings, new adventures. "I'll probably return to Molong" said Hannah who has a great love for the town and district and a genuine love of the people of the local communities.

We wish Hannah a safe and happy journey - and many more.

Molong's Telegraph Hotel has been sold to the O'Hara group, who own and manage several hotels in the West, including the Ophir at Orange.

The group is also understood to be going to redevelop the gateway block at the intersection of the Northern Distributor Road and the Molong Road.

Changeover will occur next February.

Les & Cheryl Birdsall, longtime licencee's of the Telegraph plan to take a well earned break.

Inaugurated in 2020, awards night for the the Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize for 2022 was held following an entries exhibition at Molong RSL club last Thursday night.

The winner of the major award, the Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize, received $4,250, while the People’s Choice award attracted $1,000. There were also for the Primary and Secondary Art Prize categories.

With the major prize money, the Council purchases the winning artwork each year.

JUNIOR SOCCER It was great to see all the kids excited to be back at soccer for training on Friday after three weeks off for school holidays. All of our games were played away on the weekend.

U5 Phoenix, played one of their best games. Wyatt Jeffries did some great kicking and Clara Ellis played an awesome game and stood out easily to get player of the week.

U5 Condors, played a strong Waratahs team that kept the boys scrambling all over the field, and finished up with a draw 4 - 4. Henry Welsh was awarded Player of the Week.

U7 Vultures had a pretty evenly matched game, even though the final score was 8-3 to the Vultures. Archie Jones was awarded Player of the Week.

U11 Magpies played Barnies, it was a fast game with the ball moving end to end very quickly. Magpies had a few players out and missed them in defense.

The team worked hard together with Tate Bunting playing a great game as goalie for the whole game. Archie Chrystall played a tough game and had a close encounter with one of the Barnies centres ending in a penalty kick for Magpies.

Final score 3 - 1 to Barnies. Layhne Smith was awarded Player of the week Molong will be playing at home this Saturday 30 July, please check the draws as there are a couple of teams playing away.

Molong Magpies Wallas at Cowra

RUGBY UNION The Molong Magpies Wallas travelled to the Cowra Rugby Club last Sunday (24 July) for a warm and sunny Gala Day. U6 played Orange City and Bathurst Gold, U8 played Canowindra and Bathurst Gold and U10 played Orange City and Bathurst.

U6s.

A great turnout from the whole team showed what the future of the club looks like! Giving up six players to Orange City in the first game showed how much they enjoy their rugby. Though hard straight running may need some attention, it was the enthusiasm playing in the Magpie jersey that the community should be most proud of. Topped off by doing the ‘Magpie Swoop’, Coach Mark has the young squad in fine form. Players of the Day went to Bobby and Joey Piggott for their teamwork.

A slow start for the U8s saw Canowindra dominate the young team in the first half however started clicking into gear by the end of the second half. The second game against Bathurst saw the team finding its feet and started to display some of the combinations that made the Wallabies and Coach Dean proud. Player of the Day went to Leo Wilson for his allround effort.

U10s.

Both Orange City and Molong were off to a great start, albeit a little slower than usual for the 1st game. The school holiday break meant all players were fresh, but it took until half time for the Magpies to really switch into Rugby mode.

From that point Molong were unstoppable, showing great team spirit and one try that passed through six sets of hands to end up in the corner for a try! Champagne Rugby!!!

then took on the Bathurst Bulldogs. This was a great game to watch as it was a replay of a game earlier in the season where Magpies were narrowly the victors. Both the Magpies and the Bulldogs skills and knowledge of the game had increased dramatically since the early rounds however Magpies managed the comfortable win on the day.

Thanks to all the players who did a great job in the warm weather! Player of the day went to Nathan Schroder with powerful, unstoppable straight running and ‘Mr everywhere’ Bryson Elliott was toughest player for the day.

A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun. Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle. Woman: Is there a problem sir?

Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner. Woman: Murdered the owner? Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please.

The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk.

Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am?

Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers. The first officer is stunned.

Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license. The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer.

Entries are open for the sand greens championships to be played at Binalong on the weekend of the 15th and 16th of October if anyone is interested. Entries close on Sunday 25th September.

It was only a fair quality yarding with several of the young cattle showing the effects of the winter. There were odd pens of ideal feeder cattle along with fair numbers of grown steers and heifers and there were 175 mixed cows yarded. Competition was restricted from the usual field of buyers.

Young cattle to the trade were up to 20c cheaper with prime vealers selling to 549c/kg.

Prime steer yearlings sold from 400c to 520c while the prime heifer yearlings sold from 410c to 475c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were 20c to 30c cheaper with the feeder steers selling from 369c to 559c/kg. Feeder heifers sold from 320c to 496c/kg. Young cattle to the restockers were considerably cheaper with the young steers selling from 350c to 542c while the restocker heifers sold from 280c to 509c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers were up to 30c cheaper with the prime grown steers selling from 375c to 477c/kg. Prime grown heifers sold from 380c to 420c/kg. Cows were 9c cheaper for the better cows and up to 25c cheaper for the secondary cows. 2 and 3 score cows sold

CTLX SHEEP 20 July It was only a fair quality yarding with a number of lambs showing the effects of the cold weather. There were a few pens of good heavy weight lambs along with odd pens of neat trade weights and there were good numbers to suit the restockers. Most of the usual buyers were in attendance along with the return of a major supermarket operator.

Trade lambs commenced on a cheaper note but gained momentum as the sale progressed finishing firm to $4 dearer. Trade lambs sold from $130 to $205 to average between 750c and 800c/kg cwt. Heavy weight lambs were up to 26kg were $5 cheaper while the heavier weights were $7/head dearer with quality a factor. 24kg to 30kg lambs sold from $185 to $230 to average 775c/kg cwt. Lambs over 30kg sold from $250 to $266 to average 740c/kg cwt. Lambs to the restockers were $5 cheaper selling from $41 to $150/head. A single pen of new season lambs sold to the feeders for $188 while the old lambs to the feeders sold from $131 to $181/head.

Hoggets sold to $172/head.

It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton where most categories were up to $25/head cheaper.

Merino ewes sold from $40 to $155 while crossbred ewes sold from $40 to $210/head.

Carcass prices for the better sheep ranged from 465c to 540c/kg cwt.
