Reflect ... Respect ... Celebrate These three words are those offered by the 2021 National Australia Day committee to inspire today's communities across this vast land we call 'home' - to bring race and culture, finally, together as one.

Whilst the first people settled these lands some 65,000 years ago - followed by early settlers brought by the wind flowing across giant seas ... our local soils have had generations of 'caretakers' who have helped to build, grow, sustain, discover.

Every 'caretaker' group who followed the first people - from the early settlers to the Cabonne communities of today - have lived, worked, created and built to what they have believed in. And. what the times and methods recommended belief in. We've done well.

It is a changing world - a time of changing communities - but Molong and Cabonne Country's ability, today, to 'reflect' and 'respect' the achievements of 65,000 years of 'caretakers' and to celebrate these milestones has not faltered.

suppliers, Molong's Pantry continues to operate from the Baptist Centre in Molong, under the management of Julie Spencer and her team of volunteers, St. Vinnies and other spirited community groups and church groups.

The volunteers work extremely hard, Julie Spencer has introduced a number of new initiatives in town to help people in need and in overseas countries through the Baptist Church, all supported by the same groups who are involved in Molong's Pantry.

Citizen of the Year – Bob Sullivan

Bob (Robert) was born and lived in Molong for a large part of his life.

He now resides in Orange but is still vitally interested and very proactive in Molong and its community. He is President of the Molong Historical Museum and Society, keeping the committee and members involved and motivated. He helps at the Molong Pony Club and helps with the horses at the Molong Show. He is a past Cabonne Council member.

As Bob has family living in the district his heart is very much still in Molong and its people. For the last 50 or more years Bob has been an ardent supporter, player and president of the Molong Rugby Union and on the committee of Central West Rugby Union. Bob's commitment and love of Molong is reflected in everything he does.

Local trades encouraged to contact tenderers for Cabonne Community Centre

The tender for the construction of the new Cabonne Community Centre has been called, with nine companies requested to provide competitive submissions for the project.

Early 2021 will see the commencement of work on one of the most significant new buildings in the district for decades. The new library and community centre will replace the Molong Community Hall, Mitchell Room and adjacent residence Cabonne Council General Manager, Mr Brad Byrnes said the project is currently being tendered and will close on 11 February 2021.

The facility will include the demolition of the existing hall and the neighbouring cottage, and construction of a new community centre which will include a community hall, library and meeting rooms. “It is great to see the process underway and get one step closer to having this new facility for the local community,” Mr Byrnes said.

“The facility will provide opportunities for more functions

and space for the community to come together,” Mr Byrnes said.

The construction of the Cabonne Community Centre is joint funded

by Cabonne Council and the New South Wales government. The project is being managed by the Public Works Advisory.

The use of local trades and businesses has been encouraged in the tender documentation, and Council encourages any local companies interested in providing services to the project to contact the tendering companies directly.

Time is running out to enter Cabonne art prize!

Time is running out to enter the annual Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize, which offers a total of nearly $6,000 in prizemoney to Cabonne artists young and old.

Entries close at 5pm Friday 19 February 2021.

The winner of the major award, the Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize, will receive $4,250, while a People’s Choice award will be worth $1,000 in prizemoney. There are also awards to be presented for first, second and third prize in the Secondary and Primary School sections.

The winning artwork will be acquired by Cabonne Council and will join Michael Carroll’s winning 2020 painting, “Gordon’s Garden” in the Cabonne Council Art and Heritage Collection.

A “double header” for Cumnock & Zali Armstrong

Zali Armstrong is Cumnock’s Young Citizen Of The Year - and, to top it off, has taken out the 2021 Cabonne Sportsperson Of The Year award.

Zali has been an outstanding student and leader at the Cumnock Public School.

The restrictions of COVID-19 have impacted her dreams and aspirations which she has taken in her stride. The potential sporting successes in her final year at primary school level cannot be underestimated.

From Year 1 to Year 6 Zali was involved in soccer, cross country, hockey, tennis, swimming and gymnastics to name a few.

Zali’s most recent achievements include qualifying for Senior Girls Individual 50m breaststroke State Level for PSSA Swimming at Homebush. Zali and her two sisters Macey and Abby qualified at State Level for PSSA Swimming at Homebush in the Small Schools Relay and qualified fastest at Western Region Level.

Zali’s award recognises her mentor and role model to younger peers, leadership skills in her final years at Cumnock Public School and her voluntary efforts and determined spirit for the greater good of the school and for the wider Cumnock community.

Cumnock Citizen of the Year – Bron Flick

In 2008, Bron Flick arrived to the Cumnock community from Sydney after her marriage to James.

Bron quickly immersed herself in supporting the community she called home. During her time in Cumnock, Bron has been an outstanding and dedicated volunteer who has given selflessly and consistently to the wider community including: Secretary and Assistant Secretary to the Cumnock Show Society for 10 years; Cumnock Village Preschool Secretary and Executive member for five years; Long White Lunch committee member for three years; Cumnock Christmas Tree Committee member; Cumnock Public School reading mum for five years; Cumnock Public School P&C committee member and canteen volunteer for five years; Cumnock Swimming Club Committee member; AusSwim-trained swimming volunteer and teacher for the school and community; Molong Central School Scripture Teacher 2009-2015;

Amanda Schulz, Bron Flick & Cr Peter Batten Scripture teacher at Cumnock Public School since 2016; Committee member for Central West Christian Women’s Conference for two years Bron is a quiet achiever who continually makes a difference to the students, staff and members of the wider community of Cumnock. Her creative talents and outstanding graphic design skills are recognised by the many organisations she has supported in her time at Cumnock.

The art prize is open to any person living, working or attending school in the Cabonne Local Government Area. All art works must be original, uncopied work, made solely by the artist with work commenced and completed within the last 12 months prior to 19 February 2021.

Works should be submitted between 22 February to 26 February, with the exhibition opening Saturday 27 March 2021.

Artists wishing to enter the competition should visit the Cabonne Council website and click the link to the Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize in the menu.

February is Banjo Paterson month in Cabonne Country with all kinds of celebrations and fun entertainment for the whole family to participate in and enjoy.

First horse out of the paddock will be the first ever momentous Molong Poetry Brawl - cleverly designed by local artisan Jude Taylor and friends - to be held at the Freemasons Hotel in Bank Street on Saturday 13 February starting at 7.30 p.m.

“Designed by a very creative, arty, fun loving group of locals this event and celebration of Banjo’s life is sure to ‘rock the socks’ off would be, could be, wanna win a prize poets (budding and not so budding). THIS IS an entertainment event in Molong that simply

CANNOT be missed - a history making event that Banjo himself would love to be part of.

“It’s going to be f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c” said popular Molong actor, poet and Banjo fan, Mark Oates who can recite the famous Aussie poet’s Mulga Bill’s penny farthing bike crash so well - his audience has to take leave to put vinegar and brown paper on their own imaginery sore heads.

Then there’s Paula Rudd - also popular in many Molong Player productions - who can talk about Banjo’s famous ‘granny’ who once lived just down the road from Molong. Who it is said (Granny) once fiercely stood in her 5 foot nothing fluffy slippers with a shotgun in her hands protecting the local Wiradjuri

Australia approves Pfizer vaccine

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has provisionally approved the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use in Australia.

Federal Member for Calare and Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education, Andrew Gee said this news would add further confidence to Australia’s vaccine strategy.

“Outside of wartime and the Great Depression, it’s hard to think of a worse year for our country than 2020. We’ve had drought, fires, floods and COVID-19. The news of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine approval lets us start the year with hope and optimism that there are better times ahead,” Mr Gee said.

“This is an important moment for the people of the Central West and for the whole of Australia.

“Our world class regulators at the TGA have been working tirelessly to introduce a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine in Australia.

“The approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is an important step in the fight against COVID-19 and comes after a rigorous and independent assessment, which shows it meets Australian standards for safety, quality and efficacy.

“Australians should take confidence in the thorough and careful approach taken by the TGA – they have placed the safety of the vaccine above all else.

“Our priority has always been to keep Australians safe and protect lives and livelihoods.

That is why our vaccination program is based on expert medical advice, from our medical panel led by Professor Brendan Murphy.

“Today’s approval is another big step forward for the Central West, particularly in the protection of our most vulnerable people.

“I would like thank all those involved in the development and assessment of this COVID-19 vaccine, including the researchers, Pfizer, BioNTech and the medical experts at the TGA who have worked around the clock and over Christmas.

“While this vaccine is a welcome milestone, we have to remain vigilant - so if you have any flu-

like symptoms, please go and get tested.”

The vaccine will be provided free to Australians, with a priority group of Australians expected to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in late February and early March.

The vaccine will be rolled out in five phases over the coming months and, over time, will involve more than 1,000 vaccination administration sites.

The Government continues to work with Pfizer on the final date of delivery of vaccines, noting that Pfizer has experienced some temporary production delays from its European manufacturing plant as it ramps up production to meet extraordinary global demand.

The Government’s latest advice remains that the first doses of Pfizer are expected to arrive and be rolled out in late February. Final dates will be confirmed by Pfizer shortly and are subject to shipping and distribution.

The Australian Government, states and territories, regulators and the health and medical sectors are working together to finalise arrangements under the Australian Vaccination Strategy and detailed roll out plans.

As the rollout begins across 30-50 hospital sites, people who need protection the most will get the vaccine first. This includes aged care and disability care residents and workers, frontline health care workers, and quarantine and border workers.

The priority groups have been determined based on the advice of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) which oversees Australia’s highly successful immunisation program.

Future City funding for Orange building frontage upgrades available now

Orange City Council is supporting the retail industry by offering grants of $5,000 to upgrade building frontages or reinstate heritage items on CBD properties.

The funding, part of Council’s Future City plans, is designed to showcase the city’s beautiful buildings, enhance the CBD , support retail and give a boost to local tradespeople.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the Future City Assistance Fund was available to owners of commercial buildings in the CBD area, and included repairs, conservation or reinstatement of heritage items and painting upgrades.

“Future City is about creating a CBD Orange residents can be proud of,” Cr Kidd aid.

“We want the best regional CBD in New South Wales, a place where people want to spend time, gather and support local businesses. The Future City project is also about creating a CBD which will attract new investment.

“This latest initiative of Future City is designed to upgrade existing buildings to lift and brighten the CBD. “We have a total pool of $200,000 for the Future City Assistance Fund of the Future City plans.”

Grants are available to building owners who are able to match Council’s financial contribution, and grants of $10,000 are available in exceptional circumstances.

Orange City Council’s Employment and Economic Development Committee Chair Cr Tony Mileto said businesses would need to employ local tradespeople for the upgrade works.

“We’re interesting in funding projects which will have a significant impact on the visual amenity of the CBD, so items such as upgrading or reinstating awnings, or verandas and external painting jobs,” Cr Mileto said.

“Future City is happening now.

The projects we’re looking to fund need to be completed in the next six months. We want to give our economy the best chance at thriving post COVID-19 and we are in the early stages of our three year plan.

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CALARE $200 MILLION BUILDING BETTER REGIONS FUND NOW OPEN!

Applications are now open for the latest round of the enormously-successful Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

There is total of $200 million on offer in Round 5, including $100 million for community infrastructure projects, and $100 million specifically for tourismrelated infrastructure, to provide targeted support for this sector in the context of COVID-19.

I recently joined Orange Field Days Co-op Chairman Sam Connell and Accounts Manager Bree McMinn to check progress of the fantastic Education & Information Centre at the Australian National Field Days site at Borenore.

The centre, which is due to be completed in April, was made possible with a $308,175 grant through

Round 3 of Building Better Regions Fund.

It’s a great example of how the BBRF can help local communities. Once complete, the Centre will cater for online auctions, national conferences and school events, which will be good news for the Co-op and for the local economy.

Projects in Molong to win funding from the BBRF include the $170,000 construction of new amenities at Molong Showground and $200,000 to install new lighting at the Dr Andrew Ross Memorial Recreation Ground.

Congratulations to Florian Abraham who migrated from Germany with his family in 2016. “I started learning my trade in Germany but my qualification was not recognised here in Australia” But the easy going (now) twenty-two year old was not phased - and happily took up an opportunity with DAVIMAC at their Packham Drive workshop to complete his Fitting & Machinery traineeship.

Florian excelled under the guidance of Pav. Melnichuk, the Operations Manager at DAVIMAC. “We (DAVIMAC and CW TAFE) decided to provide one year work experience for Florian - followed by 3 years at TAFE.” “It was pretty easy. I came top of the class” said Florian.

This worked well for the young man who had come to Australia with his mother and father and 11 siblings from the major port centre of Brenerhaven. Settling in Orange - the family have worked well together with locals who have helped them to settle in to the Australian way of life.

Thea Hayes has now published two books about her experience as an outback and country nurse.

A delightful woman and talented writer, Thea and her husband recently came to Molong to look after a local property. It wasn’t long before the talented author found the Molong Express office in Bank Street and bookshop of Australian and local stories.

Thea’s first book, published by Allen & Unwin, is described by her publishers as “The charming story of a young city nurse who found love in the outback”. This was after completing her training in Sydney in 1959 followed by a working stint in London.

Returning home from the UK Thea saw an ad. in the Sydney papers which caught the eye of the then 22 year old. “I had no idea about the outback” said the city resident. “I was catapulted out of the safety of my city life into an unknown world. “I knew nothing about the place (Wave Hill Station in the Northern Territory) a place

I was soon to call ‘home’.” “Wave Hill, was at the time, the second largest property in the world under one management. It covered four million acres!” It wasn’t long before Thea and the Station Manager found an interest in each other ... and the rest is history followed by a wonderful life until her man passed away some years ago.

Whilst in Molong, Cathy Farlow entertained Thea at a morning tea at her home where a number of women gathered to hear Thea’s story. The Outback Nurse and Thea’s second book, A Country Nurse are available at the Molong Express Bookshop in Bank Street.

The Best Dampers - The Rotary Club of Molong held their annual ‘Best Damper Competition’ at the 2021 Molong Australia Day celebration - the winners were (above l to r) Mark Whiley, John Hale, Rhoma Hale, Judge Brian Dean, MC and the Molong Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Bob Sullivan with the special banana damper made for him by Margaret Dean (next to Bob) and another winner, Janis Glasson. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, this year the crowd of enthusiastic damper and cocky’s joy lovers missed out on the winning dampers for morning tea. Hopefully, next year!

The announcement of long-time resident Bob Sullivan as the 2021 Molong Australia Day Citizen of the Year brought a loud applause from the large audience who attended Tuesday’s celebrations at the Rec. Bob spoke of his life in Molong (except for two years whilst he met his National Service committment) and made mention of his family and the contributions and support provided to family, town, community and family by his late wife, Essie.

All agreed ... Essie was a wonderful woman.

Features The rise and rise of Aldi: two decades that changed supermarket shopping in Australia

Twenty years ago, on January 25 2001, a virtually unknown German supermarket chain quietly opened its first stores in Australia.

The two stores – one in Sydney’s inner-west suburb of Marrickville, the other in the outer southwest, near Bankstown Airport – were small, about a quarter the size of a mainstream supermarket.

Each stocked just 900 products, 90% of which were unknown brands.

Shoppers had to bring and pack their own bags themselves. To use a trolley required a “gold coin”. They didn’t seek to entice customers with “loyalty” rewards or other gimmicks.

Few Australian supermarket executives at the time would have considered them models for success.

They couldn’t imagine the impact Aldi would have on Australia’s retail sector and shopping habits.

Aldi’s history

So by the time Aldi opened its first stores in Australia, it was a booming multinational. It now has more than 10,000 stores in 20 countries, including China.

Aldi’s growth

In coming to Australia, Aldi pounced on a gap in the grocery retail market.

The “food discounter” model had been dominated by now defunct Franklins and Bi-Lo (owned by Coles). By the late 1990s, however, these chains had messed with their “no-frills” model through attempts to go upmarket. It proved disastrous.

Franklins went into terminal decline.

Coles abandoned the BiLo brand in 2006.

Aldi expanded quickly. By mid2003 it had 38 stores in New South Wales and six in Victoria. By 2011, it had 251 stores. By early 2013, more than 280, and had expanded to Canberra.

It overtook the IGA group to become the third-biggest player in Australia’s supermarket sector by the end of 2013 – taking 10.3% of all grocery dollars (with Coles having 33.5% and Woolworths 39%). Its first stores in South Australia and Western Australia came in 2016.

It now has more than 500 stores and a 12.4% share of Australia’s A$110 billion food and grocery sector (according to the most recent data from Roy Morgan).

Aldi’s story began in 1913, when Anna Albrecht opened a small grocery store in 1913 in the city of Essen, western Germany.

Her two sons, Karl and Theo, took over the business after World War II. In the impoverished conditions that followed Germany’s defeat, they focused on keeping costs, and prices, low. Among their strategies were to stock only the most popular items and avoid perishable items.

By the end of the decade they had more than a dozen stores, and by the end of the 1950s more than 300.

The brothers adopted the the name Aldi – combining the first two syllables of Albrecht Diskont (“discount” in German) – in 1961 (though accounts differ on the year).

At about the same time (again, accounts differ on the year) they had a major disagreement over whether to sell cigarettes. They resolved the dispute by splitting the business into two geographic entities: Aldi Nord (“North”), run by Theo (and selling Cheap over choice is key to the Aldi cigarettes), and Aldi Süd (“South”), business model. From the late 1960s Aldi began to website Canstar Blue (the seventh expand across Europe, beginning with time in a decade), and second-most the acquisition of Austrian grocery trusted brand (after Bunnings) by Roy chain Hofer. It opened its its first US Morgan.

In 2004 private labels comprised an estimated 9% of the products Coles and Woolworths stocked. By 2019 they made up 30% of Coles’ sales.

Woolworths has similarly increased its private-label range, due explicitly to pressure from Aldi’s arrival and expansion.

Notably, Aldi sells no “ALDI” branded products. Instead it trades in phantom brands, such as “Belmont” ice cream, “Radiance” cleaning product and “Lacura” skin care. These brands are intended overcome perceptions of private label items being lower quality.

In 2016, Woolworths launched its own range of phantom brands. Coles followed suit in 2020 with brands including “Wild Tides” tuna and “KOI” toiletries.

Special buys

The bigger supermarkets have also been forced to emulate Aldi’s drawcard of bi-weekly “special buys” – heavily discounted items not normally sold in supermarkets. These have included televisions, lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, motorcycle jackets, luggage and (curiously for a country like Australia) ski gear.

There are always limited quantities and shoppers regularly experience disappointment. Despite this – indeed because of this – shoppers will queue and keep coming back. These quirky, seasonal, limited-stock items create excitement and FOMO – fear of missing out.

Unapologetically Aldi

While its competitors have emulated Aldi in several ways, the German chain remains a very different no-frills operation.

It hasn’t bothered with investing in the self-service checkouts that are now ubiquitous in other stores. It continues to offer only long conveyer belts and seated register operators.

Nor does Aldi have plans to facilitate online deliveries, in which the two supermarket giants have invested heavily.

It never had to cope with customer backlash over phasing out free singleuse plastic bags either. Because it never offered free shopping bags, always charging 15 cents for them.

So Aldi continues to be an exception to the rule in Australian supermarket retailing. It history suggests that’s a recipe for continued success.

The story of Lennie & Ginger Mick

Amazing stories like this one still exist. Local traveller, Phill, sent us this story which he found somewhere in his travels.

The year is 1932 - Australia is in the grip of the Great Depression. One in three workers are unemployed. Decrepit shanty towns hug the outskirts of the big cities. A scrawny rabbit caught in a trap will feed a family for a week. Country roads are filled with broken men walking from one farmhouse to another seeking menial jobs and food.

On the outskirts of the South Gippsland town of Leongatha, an injured farmer lies in bed unable to walk or work. World War I hero Captain Leo Tennyson Gwyther is in hospital with a broken leg and the family farm is in danger of falling into ruins.

Up steps his son, nine-year-old Lennie. With the help of his pony Ginger Mick, Lennie ploughs the farm’s 24 paddocks and keeps the place running until his father can get back on his feet. How to reward him? Lennie has been obsessively following one of the biggest engineering feats of the era – the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

He wants to attend its opening. With great reluctance, his parents agree he can go. So Lennie saddles up Ginger Mick, packs a toothbrush, pyjamas, spare clothes and a water bottle into a sack, and begins the 1000+ kilometre trek to Sydney. Alone. That’s right. A nine-year-old boy riding a pony from the deep south of Victoria to the biggest and roughest city in the nation.

Told you it was a different era. No social media.

No mobile phones. But even then it doesn’t take long before word begins to spread about a boy, his horse and their epic trek. The entire population of small country towns gather on their outskirts to welcome his arrival. He survives bushfires, is attacked by a “vagabond” and endures rain and cold, biting winds.

When he reaches Canberra he is welcomed by Prime Minister Joseph Lyons, who invites him into Parliament House for tea. When he finally arrives in Sydney, more than 10,000 people line the streets to greet him. He is besieged by autograph hunters.

He becomes a key part of the official parade at the bridge’s opening. He and Ginger Mick are invited to make a starring appearance at the Royal Show.

Even Donald Bradman, the biggest celebrity of the Depression era, requests a meeting and gives him a signed cricket bat. A letter writer to The Sydney Morning Herald at the time gushes that “just such an example as provided by a child of nine summers, Lennie Gwyther was, and is, needed to raise the spirit of our people and to fire our youth and others to do things – not to talk only.

“The sturdy pioneer spirit is not dead … let it be remembered that this little lad, when his father was in hospital, cultivated the farm – a mere child.”

When Lennie leaves Sydney for home a month later, he has become one of the most famous figures in a country craving uplifting news. Large crowds wave handkerchiefs. Women weep and shout “goodbye”. According to The Sun newspaper, “Lennie, being a casual Australian, swung into the saddle and called ‘toodleloo!’.

He finally arrives home to a tumultuous reaction in Leongatha. He returns to school and soon life for Lennie – and the country – returns to normal. These days you can find a bronze statue in Leongatha commemorating Lennie and Ginger Mick. But Australia has largely forgotten his remarkable feat – and how he inspired a struggling nation. Never taught about him in school? Never heard of him before? Spread the word. We need to remember – and celebrate – Lennie Gwyther and his courageous journey. It's a great story. God knows we need these stories now, more than ever.

A young man in a Porsche was doing about 200km on the clock. He came flying around the bend, saw the tractor, swerved left to miss it, crashed through a paddock fence, did a huge circle in the paddock, smashed back through the fence up the other end, back out onto the highway and kept tearing off down the road.

One of the old blokes on the tractor turned to the other and said: Jeez, Bert, we only just got out of that paddock in time!

Paul Glynn (Molong & surrounding districts) – 0428 168 638 CATTLE With no sale next week due to the Australia Day break numbers lifted by a little more than 1,000. It was a good quality yarding with good numbers of yearlings to suit both the feeder and processors with the feeders buying the bulk. There was some good lots of grown steers and heifers and there were 370 cows yarded. A full field of buyers competed strongly along with the return of a northern feeder operator and a major supermarket buyer.

Young cattle to the trade were 15c dearer with prime vealers selling to 442c/kg. Prime steer yearlings sold from 380c to 446c while the heifer yearlings sold from 380c to 444c/kg.

Feeder steers were 15c dearer while the feeder heifers were up to 35c/kg dearer. Feeder steers sold from 395c to 473c while the feeder heifers sold from 380c to 466c/kg. Young steers to the restockers sold to 495c while the young heifers sold to 502c/ kg. Grown steers were up to 10c dearer while the grown heifers were firm to 8c/kg cheaper.

Prime grown steers sold from 360c to 390c while the grown heifers sold from 330c to 380c/ kg.

Secondary cows were 10c cheaper while the prime cows were 2c/kg cheaper. The 3 score cows sold from 265c to 285c while the prime heavy weight cows sold from 284c to 315c to average 303c/kg. Heavy bulls

sold to 324c/kg.

SHEEP 20 Jan Overall, it was a much plainer quality yarding with a large percentage of the unshorn lambs presenting in dry condition.

There were though some good runs of top shorn lambs mixed throughout the yarding. Not all the regular buyers were present with the absence of some both trade and export buyers.

Despite this trade lambs were $6 dearer with the new season lambs selling from $165 to $200/ head to average 800c to 835c/ kg cwt. Trade weight old lambs sold from $150 to $207/head.

Heavy weight lambs were $10 dearer with the over 24kg old lambs selling from $200 to $260/ head to average from 800c to 830c/kg cwt. Heavy weight new season lambs sold from $205 to $255/head. Restocker lambs were firm to $3 cheaper selling from $142 to $169 while a pen of first cross ewe lambs sold to the restockers for $210/head.

Merino lambs were around firm with trade weights selling from $141 to $156/head. Hoggets sold to $205/head.

There were some very good sheep along with some plainer types in a mixed yarding of mutton where most grades were $9 to $12/head cheaper. Merino ewes sold from $90 to $170 while crossbred ewes made from $118 to $195/head. Merino wethers sold from $85 to $210/ head. Carcase prices for the better sheep ranged from 595c to 620c/kg cwt.
